@ariannasilva44622 жыл бұрын
@@marimarianations9355 I lived on campus and many buildings needed card access. Additionally the card used to get into buildings is the card you use to get food on campus. So it was very convenient to wear a lanyard. It’s not that bad honestly and businesses make a lot of personalized lanyards now. On a US campus a lanyard makes a lot of sense. So my lanyard had my access card and dorm room key.
@marimarianations93552 жыл бұрын
@@ariannasilva4462 I lived on campus for my first year as well (though this is a very uncommon arrangement here, vast majority of students rent regular apartments and share it with classmates or friends). We had this card that we only had to use if we ever wanted to get a book from the library (which didn't happen that often). I must have used it a grand total of 5 times in 6 years.
@ariannasilva44622 жыл бұрын
@@marimarianations9355 Using your student card that little is uncommon here. Because of safety and gun issues in the state most university buildings lock past a certain time. I believe 9pm or 10pm. This included dorms. So if you want to go to your dorm or major building past 10pm you needed a card. Our computer rooms in my major were protected by card access too. Only student who were in that card had access. Heaven forbid you are working on a computer project at 1am and go to pee and leave your card in the computer room on accident. Once that door is shut unless you find another student or janitor it won't open again without the card.

As long as you pass, who cares if you attend every class? Assignments are pretty much all online at this point, so you don't have to attend to get your assignments. And if you're like me where auditory learning is not the way you learn and instead you learn better by doing things on your own, going to class is a waste of time because I have to teach myself it again later anyway. If you can pass without showing up to class, why show up? Waste of time. It just depends on the student tbh. But either way, attendance shouldn't even be a part of your grade in college. Everyone is an adult, they're paying for it, it's bullshit to change someone's passing grade because they didn't show up when clearly they didn't need to show up to pass. That's literally what happened my first semester taking English when I had literally just taken it and got an A in high school. I didn't need to be there because I literally took that class.

The “used textbooks for lower prices” trick is probably going to be obsolete within a few years or so. I know it was when I graduated (2020). A lot of professors are requiring access codes to some sort of online program, which typically does include the online version of the textbook along with some other educational program. These access codes usually start at around $100 and only go up from there. Unlike a physical textbook, you can’t reuse the codes so once someone uses the string of letters to gain access to something, the code is done.

y’all please be cautious of amazon rentals for textbooks! essentially, a $300 textbook for say, a french class is only worth whatever you’d pay for it on amazon + the program for homework and study lessons it comes with. so if that same book on amazon costs $15, the reason you’re paying $285 more is because there’s likely some sort of program it comes with mandatory for classwork and homework. the $285 pays for access to the program with a code. so you’d be paying $300 just so you can do homework and study. unfortunately i was roped into paying money for a text book anyway all to even get access to my homework, even though buying the textbook was “recommended but optional.”

Y'all please please please don't buy your books ahead of time especially if you're a freshman. Go to class first, and see if you need the books or not. Often teachers are required to put it on their syllabus per their school's request. Double check with them if you need it. I don't know how many students I see buy books who bring em back at the end of the semester trying to resell them back to the bookstore and get shafted. On a side note, always get used rentals cause unless you know you'll need that book again, chances are you won't use em again. Buy the international edition of your text book and make a friend with the us edition! That way if the problems in the book are different you can check!

I’m not in college but our band had band camp at one of the larger colleges near us but I’ve stayed in the smaller and even private ones and yes, PLEASE do bring shower shoes. I didn’t bring any specifically the first time but my flip flops worked lol

Yes for all of them especially the last one! You could do all of the assignments and essays and get an A on them but because you didn’t show up to class you’d end with an F!

Not in college but in high school my mom was so close to not passing because her high school had a 5 day attendance if you went over that then it was a problem, but she called out as her mom and would run around doing stupid stuff and went to another university that her friend went to with someone and got a speeding ticket on the way back she had to get a letter from each of her teachers stating why she should pass and got out of school with a 3.5 GPA not bad for missing 30 days of school
