My Kurt/Nirvana playlist • Kurt Cobain, Nirvana, ...
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - c. April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter and artist. He was the guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Nirvana. Through his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain's compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock. He was heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and is considered one of the most influential musicians in the history of alternative rock.
Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard in 1987 and established it as part of the Seattle music scene that later became known as grunge. After signing with major label DGC Records, Nirvana found global success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their critically acclaimed second album Nevermind (1991). Although Cobain was hailed as the voice of his generation following Nirvana's sudden success, he resented this, believing his message and artistic vision had been misinterpreted by the public. In addition to "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Cobain wrote many other notable songs for Nirvana, including "Come as You Are", "Lithium", "In Bloom", "Something in the Way", "Heart-Shaped Box", "All Apologies", "About a Girl", "Aneurysm", and "You Know You're Right".
In late 1986, Cobain moved into an apartment, paying his rent by working at the Polynesian Resort, a themed resort on the Pacific coast at Ocean Shores, Washington approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Aberdeen. During this period, he traveled frequently to Olympia, Washington, to go to rock concerts. During his visits to Olympia, Cobain formed a relationship with Tracy Marander. Their relationship was close, but strained by financial problems and Cobain's absence when touring. Marander supported the couple by working at the cafeteria of the Boeing plant in Auburn, Washington, often stealing food. Cobain spent most of his time sleeping into the late evening, watching television, and concentrating on art projects. Marander's insistence that he get a job caused arguments that influenced Cobain to write the song "About a Girl", which appeared on the Nirvana album Bleach; Marander is credited with having taken the cover photo for the album. She did not become aware that Cobain wrote "About a Girl" about her until years after his death.
The unassuming house at 114 Pear St NE was erected around 1914 and is a triplex, with two apartments on the street and a small third apartment in the rear. Musician Kurt Cobain lived in this house between 1989 and 1991 and, according to sources, wrote about 75% of his total lifetime output here. The house has become a Mecca for Nirvana, Cobain, and grunge fans, although it is not inventoried or marked in any way. Nirvana’s first hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” was inspired by graffiti written on the wall of this apartment by Bikini Kill artist Kathleen Hanna.

I bet he was most happy there with his friends. That moment just before they made it big but still innocent of the realities. Life was simple and uncomplicated. No worries just good times with friends. If people could look back and hold on to a moment it would be something like that.

No worries, simpler Times lol! Kurt was always worried about how to become noticed and weather or not to quit The Band altogether. If it wasn't for their cheap offer of $600. from Sub Pop Records I wouldn't be surprised if Kurt just said let's forget this Music thing.

Thank You Scott! If you only knew what Kurt Cobain meant to me. I battled addiction for 15 years and I was lucky to get off the stuff and get clean, been clean 6 yrs now. Anyway, I can relate to him and the music in so many ways. I listen to Nirvana on a daily basis especially when I'm going through a rough patch in life. His music speaks to me just like all his other fans. With that being said, thank you for all the Nirvana videos that you have done I rewatch them often. Seattle and all of Kurt's stomping grounds are on my bucket list. If all plays out I'll be going that way in January or February.
