Elvis Aaron Presley[a] (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Dubbed the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to both great success and initial controversy.
Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Presley, on rhythm acoustic guitar, and accompanied by lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage him for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA Victor single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number-one hit in the United States. Within a year, RCA would sell ten million Presley singles. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, Presley became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts, however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood films and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse and unhealthy eating habits severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate at the age of 42.
Elvis's decades-long karate biography goes like this: He first started training while stationed in Germany (Army Elvis, 1958-'60) with a man named Juergen Seidel. Upon returning to America, he met Ed Parker, a kenpo master, at a karate demonstration at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The two became friends, and Parker taught Elvis on and off until Presley's death in 1977. In Memphis, Presley earned his first-degree black belt in 1960 under Chito-Ryu stylist Hank Slemansky. Later, Elvis trained in a Memphis dojo under Master Kang Rhee, who bestowed upon him a seventh-degree black belt, before Elvis opened his own center, the Tennessee Karate Institute.
The TigerMan Karate Dojo and Museum is a place full of history where you can tour the Museum, take a Karate lesson, and more! Elvis Presley practiced Karate in this very Dogo and filmed segments for a Karate movie he had planned called "The New American Gladiators". The Museum features Karate history-related items honoring the Founder of Pasaryu Karate, Kang Rhee, as well as Elvis-related items including some one-of-a-kind pieces! Check out some of the displays below.

I don’t think Graceland has lost it’s magic, to be pulling in tourists from all over the world for 50+ years, I don’t think it’s lost it’s magic. As soon as a a person watches a concert taping of Elvis, the legend is reborn again. Elvis is a supernatural phenomenon. His voice, his look, his music, his movies were/are “electric” and “spiritual “. The spirit of Elvis will never die, neither will the magic of Graceland. The human body of a legend can die, but the spirit of a legend lives forever.

Well said! The Spirt of the legend of Elvis and Spirit of the true man will never die. Love you Elvis forever until the end 💙 of time. Sing with the Angels now. Until we meet again one day. 🕯❤ 🕊🙏🏼✝️

A neat little story to tell you..My parents were actually supposed to go and see Elvis in concert.....my dad worked in the mines in Manitoba..but instead by the time he got the time off, I decided to come along....by the time they had gotten the time to go the next time...Elvis Presley was dead just a few weeks before the concert......my parents never got to see Elvis unfortunately...but they got to see me instead...

I am watching this video Scotty. I am so impressed with all the Elvis memorabilia at the Dojo. Can’t wait to get back to Memphis to visit Graceland, the Dojo, Tupelo where there is so much to see. Thanks for the tour. I can never have enough of Elvis. Can watch his videos, listen to his music, watch his movies all day long. He had the looks, his voice, the talent, was humble, kind and generous. He loved his fans but most of all he loved his parents. Why am I telling you this 😂 You already know coz he is your favourite too. Take care. Much love❤️🤗✌🏼💕

Ty Scotty Potty I am so glad you saw that. I wish Spa Guy was there to show you a picture he has on his phone. Joey stood by the cutout of Elvis is a sparring position when he put his hands up like he was gonna spar with Elvis Elvis' hands moved into position. It is the strangeous thing. I am not a conspiracy theory person nor do I usually not believe in extraterrestrial things but this is clear as a bell and the couple people in the room when it happened were in awe. You have to see it when you see Spa Guy. Great job Scotty. Love this and love ❤️ you. GREAT JOB.....

This is very interesting. It is nice to see the "other side" of Elvis. To hear about the things he enjoyed doing. It is nice to hear about the "celebrity" portion of Elvis as he was a huge celebrity, but to hear about his enjoyments is so intriguing. I know Elvis loved being a star but he also loved being out of the lime light.

I believe if I'm not mistaken the karate gee that Elvis is wearing in this video and the pictures is in an exhibt in Orlando FL. at Universal Studios in a Hard Rock Café right now. I'm not sure if it's there on loan or what, but there's a lot of Elvis Presley memorabilia there too. They're doing a fantastic job at the Tigerman Dojo.
