The right way is to use a zinc connector. The zinc protects your car wiring. It's called "anodic protection". Twisting and taping is bad. The air has water in it. Your copper wires corrode and will turn black so do it right or plan on your car getting sick from the bad wires.

Scotty you're the man. Ive been watching and learning from your videos for years now and just recently my Dad found you on KZfaq (since he wouldn't listen when I told him) and we both get a lot of important information and entertainment from your videos. You've given me the confidence to do certain things I would've never tried before and you even allow my father to not have such a heart attack when I do attempt things on my own. Recently my tps connector went bad and was wondering how I'm going to wire it in cuz the mechanic wanted $2500 just to replace that and the throttle body !

I used these connectors when I was installing an aftermarket radio. I somehow prefer the heat-shrinking connector, so it will seal the connection snug and tight, no water goes in. But they are a little more expensive than the normal connector.

Hey, great video! I have one question though. Do you know a source for buying the small metal terminal connectors that snap into the plastic specialty automotive pigtail connectors?? Much like the one you used in your first example. In my case I had a wire melt all the way to the connector so splicing new wire isn't an option. So far I haven't had any luck at the wreckers.

Hey Scotty! My headlights and highbeams went out last night. This seemed to happen not long after I went over a large bump in the road. Could this be a possibility that the wires just got loose and there's a bad connection or something more serious like needing to replace the wiring entirely?

you don't want to be hearing grinding sounds, try removing the fan belts and pray the noise goes away, then it's something a belt drives. If it stays, it's inside the engine or transmission, Big money there, I'd dump it quick. Try cleaning the fuel injectors for the starting.

Hey Scotty got a question for ya. I have a 1996' Ford Contour SE 2.5litre out of nowhere my car stalled one day and smoke starting coming through the AC Vents (white smoke smelt like rubber) the car would NOT turn on, no dash lights nothing not even with a boost. I took the battery out put it in my other vehicle and its good, the oil was not milky at all and the coolant seemed good. Leaving me to believe that its the wiring harness, how would I go about finding the right wire?

If you have the ability to, I'd highly suggest soldering and heat-shrink tubing when splicing wires as opposed to using crimp connectors. The quality of the work is much better, and it's less likely to come loose and short out. Butt connectors work fine in a pinch (no pun intended), but solder and heat-shrink if you want something permanent. Same thing when putting in aftermarket stereos (for people who own older cars with crappy stock stereos), nothing makes me more frustrated than when I see twist-on connectors used in stereo installation. Then these people wonder why their stereos sound like garbage and / or stop working because the wires came loose, not realizing that vibration in the vehicle tends to loosen things up.
