I never knew how VTEC worked until I bought a Honda with 300,000mi on it and changed the head gasket. At some point in that process, i picked up the cam/rocker assembly without compressing it and it essentially exploded all over the garage floor. A solid hour later I had it put all back together again - and officially understood how the thing worked. lol

@@kid5042 Thanks for replying to me. Mazda must be reliable. I think Mazda has the best car, with some kind of new injectors like a diesel. but is it the most reliable, that worried me. I thought I had read something a few years ago that Mazda was number one. You are right, Mazda top car for 3 years, but you slipped in reading (I am joking), because if you had checked in the last 3 days the new 2023 list that Mazda isnt on the list. the 2023 survey that dont even mention Mazda. To me that is kind of weird how a car jumps off the list, That makes me wonder If Consumer Reports is brilliant or dumb. But Consumer Reports was the only one of a bunch of huge surveys that didnt mention Mazda. It worries me that I dont see many Mazdas. It is interesting that Mazda went in with Toyota. I dont know, but I heard that Consumer Reports was flawed, they only report on cars less that 1 year old. Toyota & Ford are the only car makers that dont make their own transmissions, some company that makes the best transmissions make transmissions only for these 2 companies. I like the Aluminum body Toyota that has a bigger version of the Subaru flat engine in it. I dont like cvt transmissions. I dont know if dual fuel injection is reliable. If any car is any good they quit making it. Wonder if any car in the last 10 years is any good. Consumer Reports released its list of the top car brands for 2023 on Thursday. Taking the top five spots, in order, are BMW, Subaru, Mini, Lexus, and Honda. Taking the bottom five spots are Mitsubishi, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Jeep, and Land Rover, with Land Rover at the very bottom.Feb 17, 2023. I wanted a Civic 2.4 engine dual fuel injection that they stopped making it & I wonder if the new Civic is as good. I heard the first few years the redesign was awful.

Seems like Honda has always been leaders in valve control systems. I remember way back in the 80's when they had jet valves-tiny valves that were supposed to increase the velocity of the air/fuel mixture entering the combustion chamber. They stayed crusted up with carbon and didn't seal.

@greggc8088 Жыл бұрын
@The Real VR Jet valves-Actual valves in the combustion chamber with tiny springs, valves, and seat that were actuated by the camshaft. The entire assembly actually, seat and all, threaded out of the head in one piece. They were so tiny they just stayed plugged with hard carbon. In high school I worked afternoons at a machine shop reworking cylinder heads and I hated those. They were near impossible to clean and we had no tools small enough to machine them so we just had to lap them in with compound.

Both are great. Honda's last a long time. Toyota's lasts for ever. Honda for fun and style and it lasts. Toyota for this is the last car I ever "Have" to buy. I am still a gas hog though. I'll take an LS any day. Js. Rocking an LS Full size but also a RDX turbo. Both are fun and I know I'll have them both a long time. But Let me find an early 90's Camry and I'm all over it.

Hi Scotty from Down Under 🇦🇺🦘. Great video. I had a 2003 Honda VFR 800 with VTEC. Such a great sound when it kicked at 6800 RPM. Still averaged 5 L / 100 km. Sold it with 90 000 kms on it. Used no oil and started first time every time. Great motorbike and engineering.

I am a big fan of Toyota and Honda. I own both Toyotas and Hondas and have had very good service from both and although they are different from each other, it is my view that Hondas are a better car. The stuts last longer on Hondas and they are easier to service. The engine oil and filter are easier to change on a Honda and the automatic transmission is easier to service. I currently have a 2013 Cuvic as my work car and have almost 200k on it. I have replaced the spark plugs once and soon will be replacing them again. Full synthetic oil and change about every 7500 miles. The transmisdiin fluid change every 40k. The only thing I have replaced is the left rear shock absorber at 120k as it showed signs of leaking. The rear brake pads at 110k and the fronts at 164k. The car is mostly highway miles and uses no oil between changes. The auto climate control works better on the Civic than our 2013 Toyota Avalon Limited. I like both of those cars but feel the Honda has better engineering.

Toyota is not making their engines more DYI friendly. Take the oil and tranny changes. All the hassle and oil filter cartridge junk you have to go thru just for an oil change is not for me. It makes Honda more attractive to me as a vehicle that I can do things, myself.

My daughter just bought an 04 CR-V, a few weeks ago for $2k. The only Honda before this was my 83 Nighthawk. Her "truckette" has over 300k miles. We're going thru it, things like wheel bearings are worn. But it starts, runs, shifts cleanly. It seems like despite it's age, it'll be reasonably dependable ride for her even if it's quickly placed in "ready reserve" for snowy days.

I’m a Honda guy tbh, I generally like the driving dynamics of there products more than Toyota. At any rate I’m always cautious about tech that has anything to do with government forced regulation, it always seems to create more complexity and hidden downsides. With that said, who knows, maybe Honda got it right on this one.

One of my favorite cars was the 95 Honda Civic, a five speed manual with a sun roof, fun car, laying rubber in four of the five speeds, you looked forward to driving it. My current car is a Toyota Camry, boring, but way more comfortable, safe and technology advanced. My worst car is a BMW X5 junk. I just absolutely hate it, it was never fixed.
