I can't think of even a few times I've heard anyone, let alone an internet personality, use the phrase "I was wrong." Integrity is something you don't see much of these days. Videos like this along with more people owning their words and mistakes are what we need right now. Great video.

What do you mean? This is very common on youtube. Step 1 make a video with a crazy opinion of a product. Step 2 make a video about how you were wrong. You get twice the clicks for essentially the same content.

I have a 2017 F-150 with the twin turbo 2.7 engine. So far, I have 174,000 miles on it with little to no problems. I normally keep my car/truck for 15 years. Ford says I can change the oil every 15000 miles. Sorry Ford, being old school I change my oil every 5000 miles and Transmission fluid every 50,000. Proper maintenance is the name of the game. I have been using Mobil 1 since 1991. One more thing, this truck has been towing my 7000 lb travel trailer through 44 states since new which accounts for most of my driving. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, 2nd battery and 3rd brake job. Will be doing another anti-freeze change and tires soon. I am a retired Ford tech with 45 years experience, I retired in 2017. For me retirement means camping, fishing and hunting.

Really? It hasn't leaked? I thought every one of the 17s leaked. 5k is a good rule on cars,. Those extended oil changes are crap- the oil may still protect the engine but it varnishes and attacks seals and silicone

Same here. I have 179,000 on my 2008 Explorer (V-6). Runs very well.

Also you might be the edge case where you might be driving better than the average person plus that truck is almost totally highway miles which is easier on an engine than constant short trips your literally putting 30-40k miles a year on your car that's a ton of highway miles because that's 80 miles a day every day on average

Have a 2015 Ecoboost Mustang with 101k miles. Been driving it like a granny since 70k miles and it sounds great. Oil stains on the engine but I change it every 3k.

2015 Mustang with the 3.7 V6 just rolled over 90,000 and still runs like new. Best car I ever had.

I wish Ford had kept the V6 in the Mustang, I bought a 2020 with the four-cylinder and would really rather have the V6.

Scotty admitted he was wrong about turbocharged GDI engines because Toyota is doing the same thing in their upcoming models. There was more than enough info on the 2.3l Eco to make an informed video; he chose not to. Those engines have been around since 2012.

From 1984-1986, Ford made the SVO Mustang with a turbocharged 2.3L. My buddy had an '85 and it was bulletproof, got decent fuel economy (when he kept his foot out of it he got around 20 in town and 28 on the highway), and dramatically outhandled the 5.0s due in part to the far superior weight distribution. That engine only had around 200 HP, but the car weighed 4-500 pounds less than the modern one so 0-60 is only a second slower. What's old is new...

@@michaelwalsh3474 There was. It was on a carb, wasn't intercooled and was pretty much a dog. I had a friend with one back in the day. It sucked pretty much all the time, but there were times in the dead of winter when it was balls cold out that it ran like a banshee. They took the same basic engine, put a better turbo on, a small intercooler and EFI to make the SVO. I think they made up to 210 HP and good torque. Fiddle with the boost and you can make a good chunk more. That iron SOHC 2.3 is probably the most raced engine of all time (in 1.6/2.0 trim) and is an absolute tank of an engine. Good luck trying to kill one.

2014 F 150 with 270 thousand miles with the eco boost engine and still going strong. No issues. I use good oil and filters and change the oil every 5000 miles. This trucks runs the highway everyday for work

I have the 2019 Ford Ranger with the 2.3 Eco boost, ten speed transmission. The same engine in the four-cylinder Mustang. Just geared different, with less horsepower and torque. BEST truck I have ever owned.

148,500 miles in my 2013 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost. Only mechanical issues I've had is the heater core leaked and had to change the upstream O2 sensor. I use it like a truck and I'm not gentle with it. But it also gets 5k oil changes, 50k tranny changes, 30k diff and transfer case changes, etc.

I have a 2020 Ranger with 2.3 Ecoboost mated to a 10 speed transmission. I love it. Great gas mileage and enough power to tow. The secrete is not to drive by your foot. Just give it a little throttle and keep it there. The transmission will shift smoothly and most efficiently. I get 26 MPG around town and 13 MPG towing a 3500 LB. camper trailer . I installed an OEM catch can for the intercooler condensate.

I'm happy with my 2018 F150 with a 3.5L ecoboost. Has direct and port injection.. lots of low end torque. V8 are good too, but with more torque, tuning potential, fuel economy, and towing capacity. The ecoboost is a better choice IMO.

I own a 2016 Ford Fusion Ecoboost. Bought it brand new and now have 120k miles on it. Always maintained and has been very reliable. Not 1 issue so far.

I recently bought a 2012 Edge with a 2.0 ecoboost with 176,000 miles. Runs great with no issues. Had it checked by a trustworthy mechanic and he said they have had good luck with this engine over the years with no major problems.

1.0 came later than other Ecoboost engines. It has high torque off the line. Even Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear said that was a very good engine (and he hates nearly everything)

My wife bought a used 2018 eco boost mustang from a dealer that bought it from enterprise rental cars. We added a bigger inter cooler, bigger turbo, turbo blow off valve, cold air intake and took off the resonator off the exhaust. Then had it professional tuned with the cobb access port installed. Car runs amazing and gets close to 350 hp. Also added an oil catch can because of the fuel injector placement.

Wow, I bet it does run good. I have a 20 Ranger and put in an exhaust and intake and a hot pipe with blow off valve. What a difference, it is like it was always congested and now its pipes run clean and smooth. Even produced a little better, MPGs.

i just bought a 2018 as well with 59k, and was wondering and thinking if the person before or the rental place treated these with special care that a turbo needs, i do think a person needs to understand these cars specifically to own one. and when i hear of failures or booms, theres so much user error possible, improper upgrades, also essential upgrades that must be made, may i ask how many miles did your wifes have on it at time of purchase and now also any tips?

I bought a new 2020 Mustang GT. It goes back and forth between port and direct injection. It threw a check engine light at 1,600 miles for a bad fuel pressure sensor. The dealer had to take out the back seat and drop the sub frame to fix it. I think Scotty is on to something when he tells you not to have these vehicles pass the warranty period.

Sounds like a fuel tank pressure sensor, not a fuel pressure sensor, those are usually under the hood. The FTP has to be on the top of the gas tank. On some older ford's they could come loose and out by just dropping the tank an inch.

I agree, I had a turbocharged 4 cylinder and I drove it like I stole it! It only got 15 MPG but it was a blast to drive. Until it windowed a piston around 100K miles.

I have a 2019 Mustang Eco-Boost, no complaints or issues here. Oh, that’s right… I don’t beat on it. It ain’t the coyote 5.0. I just enjoy cruising in my Mustang.

I have a 2017 Honda civic 1.5 turbo charged and I have never had oil dilution. I think it's the fact that I always warm up my car before I drive so the piston rings seat .

Every engine can last long as long as you take care of it. I've seen EcoBoosts run well over 150k miles with minimal issues. The ones that dont ultimately come down to people who dont take care of their things

I’m not sure if the word every can be used there. Maybe replace that with “some” or “most”. Because some are just not made very well. JMHO🥸. And to be honest him telling us we should get to V-8 might not be the right one to go with either. I have one that has 40,000 miles on it and it’s using about 2 to 3 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. . I’m glad it’s a lease😳

I learn to drive in a 66 Mustang with a 289. I now have a 2015 EcoBoost Mustang 50-year Edition with 6-speed Auto. With the 4-cylinder there is less weight in the front end which gives it much better handling than the V8. And for me the horsepower and torque far exceed the old 289 and is plenty for me. I live in the suburbs and many times drive to the cities which involve city streets and freeway driving and even at 70 miles an hour on the freeway I still get 26 miles per gallon. I don't drive it in the winter and is not a daily driver so I only have 11,000 miles on it. Eventually I will put in an oil catch can to help reduce the carbon buildup at the intake valves. I change oil every year with synthetic and with regular maintenance this car should last me many years. With as little as I paid for it it is still cheaper than a used older sports car. I've never been one to sit at a stoplight smoke the tires. When young I had a 71 Cuda with a 340 4-speed. I used to love running down my road with sharp curves and Hills and straight areas. This mustang gives me that same thrill as a youngster

I work for a Limo company and we use the Lincoln MK crossover with the V6 ecoboost. We get over 350k miles out of them - BUT, they are expensive to maintain. Water pump replacement is 12 hours labor, for starters. Personally, I'm not seduced by the tech. I like my '07 5-speed Corolla just fine.

Diesel cars have had turbo & direct injection for 30+ years and lasting over 200,000 miles. Gasoline turbi-DI should be able to do the same .

Not sure if this was a problem or not but three years ago I rented an eco boost mustang and I didn't drive it all that hard but by the end of the week it was making all sorts of grinding noises. Glad it wasn't mine!

My next car, if I can find one, will be a carbureted, 6 or 8 cylinder American car, built in the 1960's. "Progress" is not all its cracked up to be.

I have 2010 F 150. Runs and drives great with 160000 miles on it. I also have a Mustang 2006 with 142000 miles on also ru so and drives great. Keep your oil. And maintenance up-to-date. You will be fine.

My daughter drives hot shot in Alberta for oilfield services. She put 450,000 kms on a 2015 and 2017 EcoBoost. She has over 125,000 on a 21 Raptor so far. All trouble free and she drives them hard and in extreme conditions.

@LabRat Knatz Where did you hear that?? Most people just say the turbos blow up. Lol. My own 2014 EcoBoost has towed my trailer thousands of miles in Arizona, Utah and Nevada with zero issues.

I'm just not a fan of adding stuff to make an engine do more work or work harder. If you are trying to make a 4cyl run like a 6 or 8 just buy a 6 or 8. I've never owned a car with a turbo and never will.

Thank you....some people just don't get it...so many cons to making a four cyl with a turbo run like a v8...for one the turbo will most likely fail before the engine...then your putting all that pressure from boost on the tiny engine.. and wearing it out sooner...then a bigger engine like a v8 with the same power will be way more responsive..and sound amazing compared to the wimpy 4 cyl sound..

Big Rigs Diesel Engine use a turbo and that's what gives it power. I prefer Cummins and Detroit engines. I like the sound of the detroit engine at idle and the way the turbo sounds when gearing up. They whistle while they work. I drive a 1993 Freightliner FLD with an 8-speed transmission with a hopper bottom grain hauler coupled up to it. I enjoy driving it. I've been trucking since 2003

Recently was in the market for a mustang was gonna get a 16 ecoboost but got a great deal on a 14 with the 3.7. I LOVE this motor. Sounds so good at redline.

The 3.7s are solid/reliable engines... Some of the earlier models (~2011-2014) offered a performance upgrade option (Mayhem Mustang) where they upgraded a lot of brake/suspension components with GT parts and upgraded differential gearing. Unfortunately, when they rolled out the Ecoboost, they stopped offering the upgrades on the 3.7 and only made them available on the Ecoboost. They really improved the V6s from the previous generation (4.0 SOHCs)... However, the MT82 does take some getting use to though.

@@robc7323 yup they stopped after 2017 with the v6 and its a shame cause I had a 16 ecoboost and it's not the same. Even with less horsepower the sound alone makes the motor more worth it. Car only had 48k miles on it and it's in GREAT shape. Only repairs needed now are sway bar link and brakes. Funny thing is with the ecoboost I had to use premium gas with my performance tune and with reg driving I'd average around 21 in the city but with the v6 I average 20.5 and that's regular gas so much much cheaper. Loving this car. I want a louder exhaust a slight tune to get about 330 hp and a Bluetooth touch screen because mines a base model and didn't come with Bluetooth 😐

@@CactusJack252 planned on it! It's my daily driver and after this is paid off I planned on getting a beater. She handles great in the winter with some good winter tires. Plus they don't make the 3.7 anymore so it may become a collectors piece.

2014 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6 ecoboost 160,000 miles and going. Oil change every 5,000 miles. Oil in a turbo car gets gets hotter as the oil lubricates the turbo. I have the dealer do the oil change and use a coupon. I am on my 4th set of brake pads and 4th set of tires. I also have swapped the rotors twice. The initial brake pads were too aggressive and they and the rotors were all gone by 30,000 miles (originally it had racing brakes that stopped you in a hurry). Ford changed the pad compound in 2015 and pads were hard to get as the auto cross community burned up all the spares. I now use Canadian rotors. I drive normal and get 33 MPG. I can still spin the front wheels if I hit the throttle too hard and the road is wet when I start out at a light. The car is nimble and quite fun to drive and I drive it daily to my job as a math teacher. Changing the oil is the key to longevity in the ecoboost.

The 2.3 Ecoboost is the only engine available for the Ford Ranger. On paper, the 2.3 Ecoboost outperforms both the hp and torque numbers for the 17 year old 4.7 liter V8 in my 05 Tundra. Fingers crossed, we have to wait and see how well the 2.3 Ecoboost holds up to 17 years of use.

The best way to look at these little turbo charged engines is , they wont last very long. They will wear out a whole lot faster than an naturally aspirated engine especially if you drive it harder than just normal.

Our ecoboosts start knocking at 30k miles. They’re made to be 1 year lease vehicles then junked or resold. They don’t last long at all.

My 95 F150 Straight 6.300Ci has 350k on it original Trans still running great had it 10 yrs now I haul almost everyday in it will out last anything modern , still running strong just regular maintenance, it will probably out live me ..Can't remember how many people stop me and ask will I be willing to sell it cause of the straight 6 , ITS bulletproof!

I do have a 2014 Eco Boost 3cyl-1L Ford Tourneo, and I drive it like a granny, I get the oil changed frequently, now it has 85000 km (about 52000 mi ), consumption 5.8-liter_gasoline/100 km, so far the engine is ok. With stick-shift, I try to shift very gently, so that the pressure relieve valve of the turbo doesn't spring in action, use low rpm (1200 - 2500/min), and before shut-off mostly let the engine idle half a minute to cool the turbo. One disappointment is uphill in the snow! Because at less than 1000 rpm it rumbles, that rumble transmits to the tires, and the car slips. 3-cyl-problem! maybe it wouldn't matter with an automatic transmission.

Here I am with my 2010 Crown Victoria V8 engine with 105,000 miles on it. These V8 engines regularly get between 400,000 & 500,000 miles on it. I can't believe anybody would even buy a car that is in trouble with 100k on them. Then again Scott says my Chevy Cobalts don't go over 100k & I've got 2 of them with over 200k on them going strong so...

It's true about the 4.6 Ford crown Victoria's except for blowing plugs out of the engines and the plastic manifolds. It still is an amazing engine. With proper maintenance it is a 300 thousand mile engine.

The biggest most expensive problem imo with the vics is the transmissions, next up would be the rear end. Then timing chain components. Maintenance and not driving it like a racecar helps.

To anybody reading this, check to make sure you've had the recall done with the steering wheel!!! I almost died! I was driving on the highway & felt my steering wheel detach from the shaft & 100% lost the ability to steer my vehicle! Police Chief who I bought this from NEVER got this done & it happened to me within the first 6 months of me owning it! All the 90mph chases etc & it happens to me in the first 6 months. Thank God I was able to stop alright. There's a recall on the steering column that when it goes you'll 100% lost the ability to steer.

Me too, but I just bought a used eco stang vert for a daily, was too good a deal to pass up. I average 25-28 mpg (manual trans) and drive it hard. It feels more like a big torquey 240sxthan a mustang

Welp! My 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium has an Ecoboost 2.0L 245hp engine. It's currently at 53,000 miles. First 3 oil changes were at 10k each, fourth through sixth oil changes were at 7k miles each. Fuel injector service done at 40k. Cabin and engine air filter every 15k and 25k respectively. I used to use regular 87 octane, but after my fuel injector service at 40k, it's been premium gas ever since. So far so good. I plan on keeping this car till at least 200k miles 🤞

Here in India I have a 2017 ford everest 4x4 (here in India called endeavor) with a duratorq 3.2 inline5 and 6 speed . Covered 140k kms in it, has been the most reliable vehicle owned by me. Changed oil every 10k km and transmission fluids at 70km. Sadly ford left India.

The hp and torque of those don't mean much because it's up high in the rpm it's like putting food on the top shelf you cant really reach it very well. Plus just driving around town it wouldn't feel any different than a common commuter car

I just bought a brand new Mazda MX-5 I think there is a lot of aluminum in the engine and elsewhere to make the vehicle lighter- hope it will be ok.

I have a 2003 Subaru Baja. It makes a ticking noise when cold that goes away as it warms up. I have not found a reliable mechanic in my area so I am afraid to have it fixed. My question is: is it safe to run the engine like this or am I going to cause a bigger issue if I don’t fix the problem soon?

Yeah the funny part is that 4 cylinder Mustang engine has a habit of exploding because of the strain it's constantly under. I talked to an older guy at the Costco gas station a year or so ago and his sister had a 4 cylinder Mustang newer model and he said her exploded and she was about the same age range as him, he was in his 70s.

I feel about the same about a 4 cylinder in a modern Mustang as I did when Ford put a 4 cylinder in the Mustang 2 back in 1974. It was crap then and it's still crap. Didn't work well then and won't work well now.

There are certainly a number of known issues one should take care of as soon as they get one of these engines. 310hp from 2.3L is old school. AMG getting 475HP from 2.0L. And as with and GDI without supplemental port injection, you need to clean the intake valves every 60-80k miles. This and the 2.0L are easy to do.

When Scotty said this engine was good, I was quite shocked. Turbo and GDI on a car that most likely will be driven hard is a mistake. The only Mustang I would consider getting would be the V6 which they stopped making, I guess you can still find a used one.

I blame the EPA for all these issues. Anyway, I'm sticking to a V8 (02 Mustang GT) even though these smaller turbocharged engines put out more horsepower. But we'll see after I get around to doing a Coyote swap. hehehe.. I have to admit that the non-turbo V6 in my Xterra does pretty good though.

They had a supercharged 3.3L in the pathfinder it had good early torque, but they actually made more peak power and better mileage with the 4.0L that replaced it.

@@electrictroy2010 It's amazing the hate of ICE vehicles. The government keeps coming up with emissions/fuel requirements and they're still not satisfied. This has been going on since the 1960's. Now they're pushing EVs but they're not the "cure" either. It's the same issue with paper sacks destroying the forests so they went to plastic and now they're complaining about all the plastics in the oceans and streams.

I have around 25-30 autocross events on my FiST. It's my only car. It takes me to work, puts smiles on my face at the track, plows through snow, and drives 1300 mile roadtrips without a hiccup. It's tuned, running 26psi of boost. What a wonderful little machine. Couldn't ask for a more fun and useful daily driver. Super underappreciated in my opinion. The 1.6 EcoBoost has gone 300k miles in this platform without issue

Variable valve timing doesn’t change the cam profile it just changes the timing of when the valves open and close in the stroke. The lobe size is the same. There is one engine that does have a cam with different profiles, I think it’s a vw?

every 30k miles or less you got to have the valves clened to get all the carbon off so if you love an $800 bill every 30-40k miles be my guest the V-8 is the only way to go IMO.

@@mjcmustang Oh I do and I vote the right way. I just get Pissed at Ford and GM because they are passing these known problems to their customers. Its going to back fire hard on them too. I had problems with my Ford Fusion now I drive a Toyota. How many others that have had these issues have followed me and now have a Honda or Toyota? I can tell you A lot from what I saw at the Toyota dealership. Tons of Ford and GM used cars for sale. Most traded in for Toyotas from customers pissed at GM and Ford.

@NDIrishfan71 I will say my Fiesta ST has been flawless so far. I beat on it but I take care of it as well. Carbon buildup is the nature of GDI. VW experienced that in the early 2000s when they first brought out GDI vehicles. The 1.6L EcoBoost is the best of all the EcoBoost family. They've gone 300k miles in the Fiesta ST platform. Same engine in a fusion or escape, except for mines a manual transmission

Diluted oil can actually happen in newer Hondas with GDI. It’s just not likely bc they haven’t been around too long and they are good enough to where it rarely happens.

I prefer the 5.0 engine its a great one might consider the V6 if i had to buy it but never an ecobost V6 or L4
