@@poorman1787 Good point, even though the value is wrong, under DC mode it would probably show a changing value similar to what you see here, and I don't know where he gets the "0.06 amps" threshold from but if it's a DC value then you can't rely on the readings he got. It's probably a light bulb somewhere that stays on LOL most likely culprit of these things is bad alarm and/or remote starter installations that go bad over time, with the vibrations of driving, conductors get chaffed and all sorts of stuff starts to happen, the alarm/remote start modules themselves can be draining the battery. He didn't mention it had one though. Those are easy enough to diagnose, just unplug them from the battery and if it goes away then there's the problem.

Alexander Coombs This is very true- I had an 06 TL and while I owned it I never had the issue, I heard years later it did- also occurred with my sister in law’s 06 MDX (they had the issue with the intermittently dying battery- I disconnected the HFL in ~ 10 minutes and it’s been fine since). It’s a known issue with the HFL module made by Johnson Controls in Mexico- either just disconnect it and be done or replace it.
@EyeZick14 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely the hands free Bluetooth module. I experienced this with my 06 TL. With so many phones developing over the early 2000s, Acura seemed to have quit on releasing firmware updates for this feature so around 2009/2010 this feature stopped working for me. It wasn’t until 2017/2018 that we figured out the problem. Sucks that a feature that didn’t even work for almost a decade is what was draining my battery. Scotty, next time you should do a video on the cruise control system failure. My on/off button never stayed depressed so I had to keep it depressed with electrical tape. I was surprise Scotty didn't show checking the battery's condition first, that'd be where I'd start. Perhaps it's on it's last legs, still can start the car when fully charged, but even a small drain for a few days brings it down enough to not start again. RichE San Diego, CA

We've owned 2 of these Acura RDXs. The first gen was a little so so because of the power and the concern over changing the corroding washers to avoid the mixing of coolant & oil. Now, the 2nd generation has been absolutely AMAZING once you put the VCM disabler on. Of course here's a few things we've done to really make the experience better- Upgrade the battery to handle the load from the features & entertainment system, replace the poor oem shocks with KYBs, Drain & refill trans fluid every 15-20k (change filter ever with 30k), & change the spark plugs after you disable the VCM. Doing that has allowed us to maintain consistent V6 power @ 26mpg on the highway, & around 23 city. Ask me anything, these are really awesome cars, these VCM disabled 6 cylinder motors & 6 speed transmissions are bulletproof if you maintain them and keep the fluids changed. We wanted to consider the snazzy 3rd generation RDXs, but are concerned about the drive train (turbo charged engine combined with a questionable 10 speed) & the quirky touchscreen entertainment system that many dealers have stated owners aren't appreciating as much as initially expected...

Hi Scotty ! You don't have to disconnect the terminal for the quick battery disconnect device, all you need to do is to unscrew it so it does not conduct electricity. I know it because I am using it on my car in Hong Kong, all you need to do is lose up the green nob for bit, that's it.

That’s just dumb having to do that everyday multiple times a day. It’s the Bluetooth module.

Scotty, I think a better solution would be a battery tender hookup. Use zipties and route some quality thick gage wire under the fender to the front or side of the vehicle and leave the terminals exposed or drilled through the fender liner with a rugged cap to prevent a short. Disconnecting power probably isn't great since it likely resets a lot of ECU data on the engine performance and tweaks it makes to fuel mapping and throttle position.
@jameseberhardt35512 жыл бұрын
I use a battery tender but it's not an option when I have to park the car at the airport when I go on travel..
@AlwaysMagnificent4 жыл бұрын
Also, a big deal of why a BIGGER battery may necessary in circumstances like this- Consider, the antennae is always ON, and when approaching when with the key fob is near, the vehicles are expecting the owner. At this point, it sends a beacon communication every so often, just to check to either lock, keep the doors open, or perform some other default or preset function. Pretty smart, but all this rigamarole need electrical juice to function. Every so often with Scotty being near the car, he's activating the system which checks to make sure the systems are ready for him.

Try and testing the bluetooth module in the car's navigation system. It's a known issue (drain) with that generation of Acuras..

Very rare for bluetooth to die. It happens in all cars. The main concern for 2nd gen acuras is change the PCV valve often and the throttle body position sensor can die too.

I have the same quick disconnect as this guy and get this I have the same gremlin as well on my 2006 Acura TL... I'm going to take it to the local Sun Valley stereo here to see what they can do... My mechanic recommended them today and that he's had that shop for over 20 years. He even said my car drives really nice But, I also have a lot of aftermarket electronic stuff on it and they would defiantly be able to help. I wish I lived 200 miles from you Scotty because to me it would be worth it to drive to you.

somehow I have a blown head gasket & my hot rod Dad, who is also a mechanic around the same age as you, has been taking apart the engine piece by piece - I bought the car new & didn't get the tech package cause I know those things can go wonky over time. Otherwise it's a great car. So far I have had 2 batteries since 07 with almost daily NJ driving & a few years of NYC pothole dodging. Thanks for sharing your info. It is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2005 MDX. It's been a great car until about 2015 or 2016, I started having dead battery problems. Initially they told me it was due to my current driving habits, going short distances between starts, so the battery never got a chance to recharge. I temporarily solved the problem by driving the car everyday, or long enough to charge the battery. But if I forgot to drive for 2 or 3 days, the battery went dead. If I left home for over a week I disconnected the battery, and the car started right up when I returned home. I bought a portable jumper battery, and in the past 2 years I have jumped my battery countless times. I took it to the dealer 2 times to get the electrical system checked but they reported no problems. I just took it in (June '22) and they reported a bad battery, so I had that replaced. I brought up the problem again and they said they would try disconnecting the Bluetooth (which I never used). I don't know if that worked since I have to stop driving the car for several days. My ON STAR stopped working also. Other than that, I love the car, and it's great on long-distance road trips. I keep up the regular maintenance schedule, and the mechanics say it is in great condition, aside from the normal things that wear out. Those get expensive, but it could be worse if I didn't keep up the regular maintenance.

Happened to my Acura TL it was the HFL (Hands Free Link ) I just unplugged it problem solved! Took less than 10 minutes from start to finish. :)

Regarding the first car, the Acura, I would disconnect the Bluetooth module to see if this stops the battery drain. I had the same issue in my 2007 MDX and it took me forever to figure it out. For some reason the Bluetooth module fails often and is the weakest point on the vehicle. I disconnected mine and bought an aftermarket solution. No more battery drains.

My '09 RDX is sitting at just over 190k miles, and has been the most reliable car I've owned. First owner took it to 150k with no repairs (just fanatical about maintenance). The only issue I've had is the DVD drive for the nav system died. Some dealers were fixing the issue by completely replacing the entire system, but I diy'd it for about $50. Only other non-maintenance things I've done are replace the "leather" cover on the center console (under $20 on eBay) and replace a broken sun visor.
@drooskeedoo33884 жыл бұрын
@@jasonm3871 I've replaced that cover too. Also the rear "wing/spoiler" the paint is completely gone off the top and the plastic is all raw and rough.

Scotty. I love the channel, watch you everyday. I have a 2011 porsche panamera 4, it has these codes: p0172, p0175, p0421, p0431, p0455 - which people online say is the MAF sensor. I've searched online, in the 1600 page parts diagram and cant find a mass air flow sensor on that vehicle. Do you know what's wrong with it, and where the MAF might be?
