One thing I heard was when you start the car make sure to check that all the indicator/warning lights come on when the key is inserted and that they all turn off. If a warning light has been disabled it won't turn on at all where as it should always come on at first to indicate that it is still functioning.

I'd say that's a one-sided test. I've seen cars that don't flash the check engine light upon startup, so seeing it proves that it works. If it doesn't light up, then it's indeterminate, and you need to bust out the scanner to see if it's working but stupid or broken
@Herlongian

Recently went to a Honda dealer with my son to look at a 2019 Honda Fit Sport used with low miles my son is 21 and a ASE certified mechanic . It pulled hard to the left after test drive we popped the hood and noticed the car was repainted the front Bumper was replaced and you can see slight over spray near the rubber parts , also he heard a rattle when turning the steering wheel only way that will happen is if they replaced the air bag . After looking further it had a chunk taken out of one of the wheel beads the car was in a accident they acted like they didn't know this happens at the high end Dealers as well not the mom and pop shops .........it was a year old with 12-15k Wolf's in sheep's clothing out there
@scottstabolito8841

What is it about replacing the air-bag that would cause the rattle?? Where in the steering system is the rattle more than likely going to be coming from?
@TheThirdWheel618
@TheThirdWheel618 3 жыл бұрын
@@scottstabolito8841 I'm not a mechanic ...my son is i never really asked him but you be surprised how many cars are in a collision and they didn't replace the air bag, maybe broken clips that hold it missing parts etc all I know the dealer was acting stupid ...they wanted top dollar for a car that was involved in a collision and they didn't check it in properly. or they did not do a proper inspection on the car they just checked it in, you can even see where the wheels were hit on the curb and there was scratches out of the wheels but they had it on the lot asking top dollar for that car.
@TheThirdWheel618
@TheThirdWheel618 3 жыл бұрын
What we believe is that it was a lease return and the person that was on the lease got into an accident and they didn't report it to Honda they had it fixed at an independent body shop and then when the lease was up they turned the car back in and the Honda dealer didn't check that car in properly.

The undercarriage was taken apart and all skid plates, frame, painted and undercoated. Bushings, brakes no cracks, rot or squeaks. Tires 32s have a couple of years left . I feel like I got a very good deal. Also I feel I got to it just in time to save the runner from neglecte. The couple had back to back babies it was the wife's truck. They are the 4th owner! Car fax records came back perfect. I also ran the vin through a app . Perfect also telling me it should have 225,000 miles and a buy from owner owned 8,500. He was asking 7,500.00 All I had was 6,000. Good deal! In the beginning perfect truck 4 them 2 kids. His plans were to keep it. Oil quart low, radiator low .interior filthy spills sticky. I love to detail. It looks bran new now .I'll have it painted this summer. @@hoitlygtlio That isn't the point. An honest person would have told the seller that the problem was just a loose vacuum hose. You aren't going to get a further discount on the price that was already offered. As for mechanics, like Scotty, you get return business by being honest. Word of mouth is important. If you hide a simple fix from a customer hoping to make "big bucks," you won't stay in business long.
@hoitlygtlio
@hoitlygtlio 4 жыл бұрын
That is being honest in the world of buying cars. We are not talking about the world of running a business. You are comparing apples and oranges. So if I go look at a car and change the spark plugs to see if they are the issue then I'm obligated to leave the new ones in and tell the seller everything? You are crazy! If the seller wants to know all of that then they should pay a few hundred and have a mechanic go over the car and figure out the problem and fix it and then sell it.
@thomasdarby6084
@thomasdarby6084 4 жыл бұрын
@@hoitlygtlio Honesty is honesty, in the world of mechanics, car sales, gambling, and marriage. I would know that I cheated the seller, and that would be enough.

Then the seller needs to pay a mechanic to go over their car before the sale. Just like I would pay a mechanic to go over a car before I buy. If the seller wants to know what i or my mechanic found then they need to pay for the labor. That's how things work. No one has any reason to expect something for nothing. And not giving out free information is NOT being dishonest.

I've been watching Scotty for a while now so I started to listen to him. I went to a Ford dealership to buy a used Pontiac vibe (same platform as a Toyota Matrix) with 65k miles they had posted on their website at a reasonable price. After a lot of negotiating they would honor the posted price only if I took their in-house financing, no cash purchase allowed. Bunch of nonsense. I remembered Scotty's advice then and there "never buy a used car at a dealership". Great tips Scotty, keep it up!
