My daughter has a 2009 Kia Rio. When we bought it, I did some research, and found that this era of Kia and Hyundai is a sweet spot for these 4 cylinder cars. The engine was improved, and they did a lot to improve the automatic transmission. It now has 155,000 miles and it runs smooth, doesn't burn oil, and the transmission still shifts great. I think that the car was well cared for, which makes all of the difference, but it was at a reasonable price, and available during the pandemic so we bought it.

I bought a 2005 Ford Freestyle for 1800 bucks 2 yrs ago. It had 182,000 miles when I bought it. Now it has 234,000. Doesn't use any oil, change it every 5000, doesn't leak anything. Has tons of pick up and runs great. I'd like you to look at it someday Scotty. She's got a few small dings. But runs like a charm! And all original but the rack n pinion, and air conditioner. They were replaced. Gets 23 to 24 mpg on highway, 17 to 18 in town. Not bad.

PSA: Those Expeditions with the 3V 5.4 Triton V8s can be good engines if they were maintained well, namely oil changes. That generation, 2007-2014, *only* had the 5.4. Cam-phasers, "2 piece" spark plugs, timing guides, and weak oil pumps are just some of the issues that plague this engine. It's not necessarily the cars fault that the owners are negligent, because most of the major issues of the 5.4 can be remedied through routine 3k to 5k oil changes. However, buying one of these at a corner lot with 3, 4, or more owners in it's history with 150k miles is a straight up gamble. You can put new phasers in but a lot of times mechanics just recommend a new engine.

I had a 2009 f150 with a 5.4 new and I sold it at 100k miles, I ran it hard and it was running like crap at that point. Got a 2016 with a 5.0 and I've been taking better care of it, runs great, I hope it lasts to 200k miles, at 113k currently.

I got a 2013 xlt expedition and it's at 145k miles. Bought with 84k on it. I maintain it like crazy with oil etc. I did the lock out kit for the motor. But ford should of had to replace all the 5.4 motors

It's not negligence it's piss poor design and execution. My neighbor is a wicked mechanic and has a 2008 f-150 with the triton. The amount of work he's put into that engine to keep it running goes well beyond routine maintenance.

My brother had one and has gotten rid of it bc he needed a larger vehicle. Maybe that’s why they stoped making them bc of accidents.

Yea, it also doesn't *need* a TRD supercharger but the people who put them on don't give a toss about fuel economy. Also as far as handling and braking are concerned, 18 inch don't have a negative impact and lighter weight wheels are more important than their rim diameter.

Had to find a replacement quick, and unfortunately at the time, local used car dealers had a serious shortage of good used cars. Wound up buying a 2015 Chevy Trax (Uhhhhhh!), miss my Toyota so much, in it's shape, replacement value was still 5000 dollars.

I would seriously consider an older Expedition provided it wasn't rusted out or had been seriously wrecked. And if it had the 3 valve 5.4 that's a hard pass. I'll just drop a reman engine or transmission in it and drive it for another 200,000 miles. I've seen them with a lot more than that and they were still running well.

Only issue with scion like this one is in 06-09 they had the low piston rings that failed and burned so much oil! And it was mainly due to people not changing oil enough and letting them go 10k city miles between oil changes! (Not recommended) highway miles yes but not city So have to be careful when buying one check the records and dates compaired to miles put on between dates to see if they’re highway or city driving

Lol how did you go 80 in first gear? Did you have like 2.55 ratio rear and a tiny little first gear in the transmission or something? Cause gear ratios are what determine speed per gear which is why old mechanical speedometers have a pickup off the transmission.

Ford doesn't get the short end of the stick. They made good cars 20 years ago, their cars today are dumpster fires, but even toyota today is a dumpster fire.

If you want to tow with a small car, it must have manual transmission. And the same is for sports cars.

What about rust. Here in the rust belt you see newer cars with rust starting. They must be good for another 100k but the rocker panels are going. I'd say at least half the cars are rusting long before their mechanical death.

I guess he's to old to understand why they came out with Scions. It was just after the 1st Fast and Furious movie broke records when everyone wanted a racing car and was targeted to that audience with all their accessory options. Supercharger, Upgraded Stereo, Ground Effects, different Decals, tons of colors, etc... So you got the base car and then were able to customize it like a racing video game.
