Why do old mechanics take tightening spark plugs so lightly. I have always been afraid to mess with spark plugs because they are easy to overtighten and if they are not tight enough then they can blow out. How do you know when it is just enough? Also my dad always used anti seize on them if the car has aluminum heads. Do you do this too scotty?

I'm not a mechanic, but my dad is. I have some experience with cars, so when my wife's grandparents asked me to go check out a truck, I ended up smelling coolant as soon as the hood was opened. I also seen the coolant low, but both her grandfather and cousin said it was probably nothing. After driving around, they made up their minds and decided to buy the truck. I stayed back, popped the hood and looked all around. Found that the radiator was busted. The coolant looked new so I assumed it leaked a lot. Despite my warning, they bought the truck, and a few months later, it turns out the engine was warped before they bought it.

I'd recommend avoiding O'Reilly for any electrical components. I had purchased a tuneup kit for my Dodge. Three two-way coils. Coils sit atop the plugs on the driver side. Wires go to the passenger side. Bad rubber on the coil side insulator allowed spark through and prevented firing in that cylinder. Destroyed the catalytic converter on that side.

Mine had the same symptom. Starts hard when the engine is cold, sputters etc. I thought my engine was burning oil. Had it checked by a mechanic, they said that it didn't. I changed the oil, spark plugs, filters and what not, still the same. Checked the vacuum lines, no problem. EGR no problem also. Replaced the fuel pump, same thing. What solved the problem was the computer scan. It showed that my camshaft position sensor was busted. Changed it and now it runs like a dream again I could've saved a lot more if I had it scanned the first time.

The problem with older Toyota cars is that you don't even know they're broken until it's too late. Some asshat drained all my oil once, I drove the car for a few weeks before I checked my oil and noticed it was completely empty. Fill it back up and it didn't leak so I just went about my day. It took over a month for that car to die from the damage it sustained. The thing is it ran fine until a cylinder blew.

I remember this because a cousin who worked there had an imported from Germany VW with 400,000+ km and it had only recently begun smoking and the Corolla was something like 90,000km I have seen this on repeat over the years Corolla and blue smoke everywhere. Super-Clever idea to resolve these annoying dead battery-powered TPMSs that are always in Scotty's videos: 1. Put a bracket with a permanent magnet somewhere on the wheel struts: Put a coil inside the TPMS. Every time the wheel passes the magnet, it charges up a few micro-amps. 2. Might be able to do the same thing with some kind of "gryoscopic" or motion-based component inside the TPMS alone... like Rumble Packs inside game controllers, only in reverse.

I found that with my previous car, the reason it didn't start very well was because it was made in Italy and I wanted to start it in -30 C. Turns out, the main problem was battery running out over the night, but I doubt the car would've liked being run so cold. So I built a shed for it. In the shed, I installed an electric heater.

I wish you are my mechanic... So hard to find one that is truly good but even harder to find one trustworthy... I am always afraid to let anyone work on my car. I took my car to the actual car dealership for a recall repair one time where to replace the part, they had to take off the front bumper. As a habit, I always check everything after I get my car back and I found that they didn't not even reinstall the front bumper correctly and this is the actual car dealership who works on nothing but that mainly that brand of cars..

Scotty always says to always put in the oil rated for ur vehicle
@peterharrell7305
@peterharrell7305 Жыл бұрын
No, there are small cavities that the oil travels thru to increase pressure in specific areas, like the crank and cam bearings. Flow rates can decrease to catastrophic levels of the oil is too thick. If the oil is too thin, the pump won't be able to move enough of the fluid because the tolerances in the pump are designed for a specific viscosity range. Basically, oil that is too thick will mimic the properties of a very dirty oil, which is what caused the damage in the first place.
@Aqvalar

Heh, funny. In Finland that car would fail MOT (it's annual for cars over 4 yr old or something). Worn bearing is pretty much automatic fail - and if you fail MOT, you are not allowed to drive it, meaning we have to somewhat keep our cars in some sort of condition...
