The fact that Clarence Thomas did not recuse himself from this, given his wifes direct involvement and attendance on Jan 6, shows that it's a court now in name only.

@@pbarnz5013 Leticia James and the judge both ran on going after Trump. Alvin Bragg's ran on going after Trump. Fani Willis ran on going after Trump. All of them are political hit jobs that should have removed themselves from the case but have not.

Your leader is frail to the point he can’t even stay awake in court or speak coherently at rallies. Those in Congress lack the poise to govern. And if you win, it’s ok. I just finished reading 'Justice on the Brink' by Linda Greenhouse about the rise of the conservative majority on the SCOTUS Inc and it looks like we are in for decades of decisions favoring corporations, the oligarchs and religion especially the evangelicals. I just hope we can survive this capture of one of the most important branches of our government by moneyed interests.

Technically, the punishment has a constitutional check through an Amendment passed by Congress and all the states. They have a point in asking, but it is sad that the length of time is what was enough for the Supreme Court to consider the case. That is the amount of time that aggravating charges could promote the charge to be, and considering that there are a lot of aggravating factors that could provide a basis for the 20 years, it is quite reasonable. The obstruction could range up to an effort to, I don't know, change the outcome of an election through fake documents or killing a lot of people through hanging by an actually constructed gallows. It's bad when we are in one of the worst timelines for the charge, and the Supreme Court is trying to claim a life sentence might be cruel and unusual.

Not they're not. Msnbc is lying to you because they know you're not actually going to listen for yourself, they're point is that this law was not written for this purpose and has never been applied in this manner. On one hand, the government is arguing for plain language interpretation then they immediately have to walk back when the justices ask why it has never been applied that way in past or what the implications of such a law would be.
