Former EPA official Mustafa Ali criticizes the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the so-called Chevron doctrine, key to the federal government's regulatory power. "This decision actually weakens our protections."

No, it’s core to the MAGA movement or those die hard Republican voters that would rather kill democracy and sanity than admit they’re wrong and vote Democrat. The Democrats and intelligent former Republicans or just the intelligent of any or no political affiliation, trust science and educated individuals to value American lives and values over money and political power. But yes, there are a lot of people too busy griping about high gas and grocery prices (hello-capitalism, remember?) to get that there are bigger things at stake here (and yes, I eat a lot of rice & beans and ramen w/econo-sized bags of frozen veggies!) and need to wake up and pay attention! Vote blue in every election, no matter how small or when it’s held to take back our country, our freedoms and our Supreme Court, so that we can have confidence that decisions based on law and integrity rather than partisanship. 🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🇺🇸🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Well considering the agencies are controlled by the corporations, suing in a court of law to correct environmental disasters and pollutants may actually work better than leaving it in the hands of a corrupt bureaucracy
@eh34777 күн бұрын
Taking one case of toxic pollutants to trial, takes 10-20 years, IF the victims have the money to fund the case. Currently, depending where you live, agencies are preventing huge amounts of toxic coal dust from being spewed into the air, and prevents oil companies from dumping tons of oil by products on the ground. Agency staff have transparent job descriptions and can be fired if not doing their job. Some of the agencies have been defunded for ~20 years, and they can't keep up. Talk to people who were alive pre-1970s when corporations did whatever they pleased. This is massively worse - there are more toxic chemicals developed, and much more corporate cash to push them on the public.
@amelliangames73657 күн бұрын
Is everyone with asthma suing? No. Because we wouldn't win even if they did cause it via air pollution. The regulations DID improve air quality (but needed to go further). The court prevented them from increasing regulation, and now took away their ability at all. This is not good

Judicial review is never bad. Agencies often overstep their authority. For example, the SEC mandates the racial and gender composition of corporate boards of directors. Doesn't the decision merely vest the statutory interpretation in the courts that are already the ones that should be interpreting law in our Constitutional system of checks and balances: congress makes the laws, executive enforces the law, and judicial branch interprets the law? I understand the guest's concern, but providing clear statutory mandates by our representatives should be the goal here, rather than leaving it to unelected bureaucrats who have zero accountability. If Congress doesn't make laws (or amend laws when a court gets it wrong) that are consistent with our initiatives, we can vote them out.

@Croploss 0 seconds ago This guy full of BS. The importance is an individual's new right to challenged over the top imposed regulations by non-elected bureaucrats who impose their personal political or social beliefs on private entities without recourse. If an agency ruling is reasonable and appropriate, nothing changes. If it is not then the entity now has the right to challenge the bureaucratic dictate in an unbiased forum instead of where the bureaucratic dictate is kept within the agency who become the judge, prosecutor, jury and enforcer. The trial case was a perfect example where some power hungry dictator ruled that commercial fishing boats had to accommodate a government inspector on board every outing to assure no rules were being bent or broken, and the boat owner had to accommodate, and pay the salary and expenses for the inspector. There was no evidence that such a rule was necessary, just the whim of another out of control government weenie. Few would argue that essentially every government regulatory agency is out of control and needs to be beaten back by reason and common sense.
@spafon77997 күн бұрын
Sorry, but the constitution determines the power of the branches of government. Congress has no authority to hand over legislative power to the executive branch. "We're cowards so we're just going to pass blank sheets of paper and let the bureaucrats decide on policy". Sorry, no can do. If there's a regulation you want then try to get Congress to pass a bill that legislates it. I am just disgusted as hell with the way the uniparty (Democrats and old-guard Republicans) play fast and loose with our system of government. If you want a government like that of North Korea, keep voting uniparty. If you want peace, freedom, and justice, vote populist.
