Click 'CC' for English subtitles or 'Settings' for Portuguese subtitles. In this video, I talk about a phrase often used by Liverpool fans and people from the city of Liverpool - Scouse not English. I try to explain some of the reasons why Liverpool is considered "the least English city in England" and explain the differences between Scouse, English, and British. I also answer the question - Would you rather your club team win the league or your national team win the World Cup?

i live in france, but me Ma' is french from her Arl Fella and she is from Brighton from her Ma', and me Arl Fella is scouse, and i'm born in liverpool so i always said and say i'm scouse or for french people or other people you don't know what 's means "scouse" i'm from liverpool. and of course i definitely prefer to see LFC win the champion league.

It’s just a small, industrial city in the north-west of England but you feel something coming through your boots 🥾 when you’re there - it’s got a lot of heart ❤️ ✌️⚽️

Wow, what an unexpected, though a very important and... well, honestly - "makes you stop and think about it" kind of topic (not sure what's the word for that). Liked the "nationalism is not quite a bad thing" topic when it comes to preserving, defending a country's or the peoples' identity. All in all, the topic, its whole point and the editing of the video ;) are great. New level. PS Loved that "Jurgen's Reds are Scouse, not Englisch" banner :)

'Thought-provoking' maybe :) Thank you yes I did originally just speak in front of the blackboard but then I thought more photos would help explain the topics and Scousers may actually watch the video so I did it again in front of a green screen. I'm blocking parts of the photos, which is a shame (there is a banner that says 'No wonder you hate us'). I think there is a place for both 'good and bad nationalism'. You can be proud of what your country has achieved or aspires to achieve. But there is a fear amongst people that immigration will damage cultural identity and they want to preserve the monocultural landscape in which they grew up - bad nationalism.

Yeah I'm totally agreed 💯. I'm 19 yo ,and from my childhood I believe that Liverpool is the best city in the world. So , that's why I try to immigrate and to live there but I need a hand to help . One thing to mention, even I didn't born in Anfield heaven, but I'm a Scouse with a red ♥️ and blood .

The articles post-FA cup 2022 about Liverpool fans booing the national anthem have not got to the crux. Liverpool has been a socialist stronghold for many years and the right-wing media have scored points by highlighting negative stories and portraying Liverpool in such a way so that it reinforces an in-group and out-group i.e. Liverpool is socialist therefore it’s a horrible place full of nasty people - and this is what socialism will bring. A lot of the country have gone along with this because it has been drip fed to them for years. The right-wing establishment-backed media has such a strong influence on people’s perceptions - hence, the awful way Corbyn was treated and eventually perceived by even lifelong Labour-voting people. It’s been good reading some of the comments in support of the Liverpool fans, but Liverpool is still a target for the media because of its political stance and the mud-slinging will continue. I hope that other areas don’t fall for it and start standing up for a fairer society in the same vocal way Liverpool does.

As a Atlético Mineiro supporter, I would rather win the league because we are kinda like Liverpool Our last league (and the only one) title was in 1971, since then only got silverware. 5x second place In the process, we won tons of regional championships, a Copa do Brasil, a Recopa, two Conmebol Cups (old format of current Sulamericana) and a Libertadores But no league trophy. We even won a Serie B in 2006 because of a unfortunate relegation Just imagine the banter, 50 years...

ha yes the banter must be hard to give back! But you are looking good and a few teams are worried about Atletico Mineiro for next season. n.b. 'silverware' means to win a trophy not second place.

Although liverpool is generally a socialist city, the wealth of liverpool has increased dramatically from the dreadful 1980's. I think we need understand that liverpool is not that poor city anymore! It's has its problems like any other major city. If you drive around liverpool now, the amount of construction sites gives you a sense of pride as the city grows and it maximises its potential! I ignore the negative stereotypical views about the city... "Haters will always hate"

As a Scottish person I love my country but would never call myself British always Scottish, I am also a Celtic fan and love my club to pieces I grew up around Glasgow and it is a way of life, I will always vote yes to independece and I support all nations within the UK to break away and do its own thing! Even Liverpool and Cornwall to break away from England, class video mate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙌

@@orfordwolf5409 orkney and Shetland don't want away lmao, there was a poll and it came back 13% in favour of being independent 🥴 but if they were to want away then sound let them all the oil and those resources would remain Scottish due to them being Scottish waters nothing would change and if they want away let them

@@connor735 I have yet to meet someone from Orkney who associates them self with Scotland. I dont know about Shetlanders but I hear they dont class themselves Scottish either? It is also time the UK broke up too. The only thing bad about it is that northern England will end up stuck with a Tory government forever.

I prefer my national team winning the World cup, but I have to admit that this is a very difficult choice. We're proud to be the only country that have won 5 World cups, I think this feeling would be shaken if some other teams reach to the 6th title before us.

I think the Utilitarian argument is that Brazil winning a sixth World Cup would give more happiness to a greater number of people than your club team winning the league and preserve the pride in the national team. Liverpool have more fans around the world than the England national team so from a Utilitarian point of view - Liverpool winning the league would bring more happiness to a greater number of people :)

@@EnglishforFOOTBALLFANS that's absolutely true, my club has an average of 18 million fans (the 3rd in Brazil), in comparison Brazil has 213 million and I know a lot of Americans (the continent) and even Africans root for us after their nations get eliminated.

the red-barron As explained in the video, ‘Scouse not English’ is tongue-in-cheek and shows that a lot of people feel a stronger sense of pride and identity to being Scouse than English - in a similar way to how people may feel about being gay, Muslim, or black.

I just googled ‘The La’s t-shirt’ and found it - I just tried to find it then but couldn’t find the exact one. The La’s were a great band from Liverpool in the late 80s- 90s… they only have one album but it’s a masterpiece 👌

Woah that’s a big statement. I thought Brazilians would prefer the national team winning. But I suppose Palmeiras not having won a club World Cup is something that other teams tease you about

@@EnglishforFOOTBALLFANS The current National team is shambolic. Tite's selection is poor, Neymar does whatever he wants, they only play against weak National Teams. They never face European Teams... That's why I'd prefer Palmeiras winning the club World Cup. Palmeiras do have that cap, we won in 1951.

Yes, generally, Scousers don’t identify with the corrupt, racist, Brexit and Tory-voting, elitist lickspittles. ‘Scouse not English’ is tongue-in-cheek. I think Liverpool fans take pleasure in being the most successful English club whilst being vocal about political and social issues that the rest of England seem to accept and even applaud.

I agree You go to Manchester, London, Birmingham etc and English people and culture are seemingly the minority, but in Liverpool it seems very English with a hint of irishness due to its location
