1:23 the crazy thing about resiniferatoxin is that it is so spicy that about 1.672 g of the stuff can kill a human. Even crazier is that it has been tested as a painkiller because the sheer pain from consuming it can numb your pain receptors.

I'm one of those oddballs that gets a "high" from spicy foods. I cry, I sweat, I laugh and experience a sense of euphoria. Had a fresh, homegrown Carolina Reaper from a little Thai shop back home and they warned me not to eat the whole thing in one bite. Whooboy, did they warn me, and I did not heed. It was incredible, and I've been chasing that dragon ever since.

So I was intrigued by the mention of resiniferatoxin and it’s scarily interesting. It’s highly toxic and reactive in even tiny quantities, burning any living tissue that it comes in contact with. It’s so powerful that the nerve endings that it affects die of calcium overload, and studies conducted on rats suggest that an oral dose of only 1.6 grams could be potentially fatal to a person.

You could say that black truffles and blue cheese are pungent, but not in the same way that chili peppers are. I propose "Capcicous" as a way to describe the mouthfeel of peppers as a most-exact method of communication. Like if you petition to agree.
@juliaf_2 жыл бұрын
But we then run into the issue that some chilis are a sharp stab, whereas others are a slow build. different types of peppers aren't exactly comparable to eachother directly. I think it's appropriate that it's a vague term
@ChaliceMovingXIV2 жыл бұрын
@@juliaf_ its the same chemical. We can use qualifiers to say "intensly capcicious, or lingering capcicum." Whereas if I said "stabbingly pungent" i might be referring to a piece of rotting meat, or if I said "slowly building pungency" i might be referring to my armpits on a hot day.
