SCP 1499 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as The Gas Mask.
SCP-1499 is a Soviet GP-5 gas mask. A seal test performed on the object suggests that the object retains its original functionality. The anomalous effects of SCP1499 activate when a human places SCP-1499 on their head. Approximately one second after SCP-1499 is fully secured on the subject's head, the subject vanishes from view, and is no longer detectable.
Upon wearing SCP-1499, test subjects report completely different surroundings than they were in prior to wearing SCP-1499. Subjects have reported that it appears barren and inhospitable, with tall black towers filling the area. Subjects have also sighted entities in this landscape. These entities, designated SCP-1499-1, have been described as tall, nude humanoids with dark skin that have a thick coat of an unknown viscous substance

Technically, alternate dimensions don't have to exist in a different location. They could be in the exact same area, but traveling through different planes

Kinda sounds like a reverse pyro mask from TF2. It might be less that it "transports" you to a new dimension, and more that it "teleports" you and distorts your vision of the real world, causing you to see everyone around you as a dangerous threat. It could also alter your appearance to others or could also be more of a mirror dimension, like someone else said, but I really like the teleporting theory.

@@ethanor Doesn't seem to be the case. In the original it only says "An individual with a gas mask appeared, then suddenly disappeared" in the church that was attacked, the foundation then came up with a cover story and a sacrificial lamb.

@@MatthewLudwig-mw8uq it's a bit inconsistent if you ask me because we can still get episodes with absolutely terrible animating some times but this is a channel putting out new videos every day or so, so I'm gonna cut them slack on the quality of the animation for the most part. Most of the sauce comes from the really good writing of being able to turn a very factual article into a more dramatic, story-driven video and Hunter's voice reading those lines.

Surprised at the conclusion. I would've assumed SCP-1499 must come in pairs, one in the normal world and the other in the reverse world. It could be that the wearers and synced. What one does in the alternate world, a 1499-1 entity mirrors in the real world. Considering the entities have eyes all over I wouldn't be surprised that wearing the mask makes you look like them too the same way the guy looked human when shooting in the cathedral. Otherwise I don't see how you'd hide or be stealthy amongst them.

This is an intersting SCP because of how little we know about it despite being here for years. In my case. I think it will always "transport" you to a mirror dimension on a certain location where there may be a mid to high chance to have a violent encounter, either if you are the one that will cause it or not. That's my theory

What I think is that it transports you to a place on earth, although it’s twisted and unrecognizable. I think this because there was one part, (I haven’t watched the video yet so I don’t know, but I read the files) where there was a terrorist attack by someone in a gas mask, who killed a pope or something and tore out his heart, and killed some other church-goers, before disappearing into thin air. (Taking off the gas mask) Yes, that’s what happened in the video. Just what happened.

Theory: the individual that attacked the cathedral was a alternate of the agent. By attacking the entities, he established a causal relationship between his reality and the mask's. It was him, but not the same person. Essentially, when we go to the mask deminsion, an Alternate from that demension is manifested in ours. It wasn't an issue previously, because the field agents and D-Class personnel were acting cautiously, not just blindly seeking out the entities.

Also, true story: in WWI, a German army of about 7,000 was completely routed by 100 "dead" Russian soldiers. The Germans had bombed Fort Osawiec, and then saturated the place with toxic gas. But when they went to occupy the fort, the Russians - covered in blood-soaked bandages and coughing up pieces of their lungs - stood back up and fought back. The Germans were so terrified that they ran back across the battlefield and impaled themselves on their own fortifications.

See, the theory that the mask physically transports the wearer to another place while giving them some horrifying sights is helped by the fact that the radio still works in this "other dimension" But it also doesn't work because the audio recordings tell the same story the wearer does. This is a great SCP for that because you really don't know what it is, but at points you feel like you're so close to knowing what it is. It really is an anomaly.

I think that the wearer is actually transported to another dimension, but one that imitates exactly what happens in real life, not only that, you summon a non-existing person with a gas mask, and every action you do in an specific place happens in real life in that specific place and in the same way it happened.

You know, it's kind of strange, that most SCPs in the thousanth numbers tend to have so many strange stories, cults, and characteristics that made them not really believable. The ones under 1000th numbers, to some extend, is believable and can be imagined, making them much more frightening, having the capability to be true if one believes in it.

It's because all of the ''series'' of SCP's are based on certain themes. If ya go on the wiki and google it, you will find that some were themed to be Horror, others mundane, some normal but with a twist etc. The SCP-1000 series was themed Folklore, 2000 was Science fiction, 4000 was horror but of course people will say there is no theme or that it's something else. But they do hold contests about the themes so there s that.

I honestly think that the last incident could have proven Nikolai innocent if they had just strapped a camera on him or any of the other test subjects for that matter. If they can bring a radio in it would be logical to conclude that a simple video camera would be able to translate into the dimension as well.

I only knew this SCP from the Containment Breach game. I'm surprised how different this story is from the game. In the game, it's only explained that there are entities that are hostile if disturbed. Why didn't they attach a camera to the testers? They'd then know if the tester was saying the truth, or did they actually commit the murders

I like the idea behind this one. It seems to transport you to some strange, nightmarish other world of inhuman monsters. But then any actions undertaken by the wearer while there instead seems to cause interactions with our own world that the wearer cannot perceive. Concepts of subjective perception of reality are fascinating to me. Though in this case, i feel like more information to understand this could easily be gathered by giving a field operative a body camera that records outside of the mask, to see how well the video footage aligns with the wearers spoken account of their experience.

I don't know why but I really like this one. It reminds me of something but don't know what exactly. I feel like the mask aligns 2 people at the same time,one who performs the actions and sees something different and the other person performs the same actions but in our world which would probably be in Russia due to the origin of the mask. So the "other dimension" isn't actually real but almost like a hallucination like the subconscious mind. Maybe Agent K teleported to the person's subconscious seeing hideous creatures there and controlling the actual shooter. nonetheless the mask ability seems really familiar

11:03 Could have been an instance of 1499 that was being tested in a DIFFERENT dimension. *Came to the main one using the mask, said dimension might have had some differences like no foundation, feline eyed people, etc.* Either what they saw was equivalent to what the main dimension saw.

it actually makes sense now the gas mask is like how pyro and other tf2 mercs sees things using the pyroland Goggles changing appearance of the surrounding but in scp 1499 it seems that it transports the user to where the mask was created

Wouldn’t it be better for the SCP Researcher to use D class and Agents to go in first, then try the mask for even just a second or minute? The Researcher(s) would learn a lot this way. Not with other SCPs but this one in particular

I don’t think it’s hallucinations, I think whatever you do in the reality when you put on the gas mask happens in our reality, as you could tell both men were wearing gas masks and both disappeared upon taking off said gas mask. To further prove this theory, the agent shot what looks as a priest or a leader after killing many monsters from that universe, which the causalities were also placed in our universe. It’s interesting to think about nonetheless.

I thought when i heard" it couldn't get worse", the soldier was killed or anything similar to that but i'm kind of surprised that the agents didn't die and the person who dies aren't even relevant in the first place. This is the ultimate plot twist to me
