A lot of the SCP writing is so lazy. A good example of that is the redacted trope. People just redact random stuff that makes no narrative or plot sense. Why would the year, but not the day, month, decade, century or millennia have any impact within the SCP universe to qualify it as needing to be redacted? Something would only be redacted if the information could compromise a pending investigation, or to hide the identity of a perpetrator or victim of a crime. If the date is 1951, or 1957, how would that impact the people in the universe, would the reader find out about it? Before redacting something, that something should have a clear narrative impact that’s apparent to the reader. So, if you redact a last name, somewhere in the story should it be naturally explained for what purpose that redaction exists, or what impact such information might have.

The thing you’re describing is only really a problem in like Series 1 and 2 tho, most newer articles don’t usually do this

This is the thing about SCP. They let it grow too large. Too many writers throwing in redacted styles from times past without rhyme or reason. Then the 05 had to come down and tell everyone to be actual writers then everything became shite.
