Dr Bob brings you SCP Foundation Euclid Class object, SCP-482 Mentally Mutating Straitjacket Animation.
SCP-482 is a black leather straitjacket. SCP-482 has two known effects, occurring in a linear fashion once the item is worn. This exposure time lasts a varied period between 1 and 6 hours that a subject wears SCP 482. The item can be removed before Alpha elapses completely without ill effect. During this period, the subject feels “mentally better”; any mental afflictions that the subject possesses, regardless of degree or intensity, are negated completely. Time Point Beta refers to the subsequent time period that passes if a subject is still wearing SCP482 once Alpha lapses. During this period, the subject experiences something much, much worse.

I felt the same way, but that might open a whole different can of worms about what we define as mentally healthy, where we draw the line, etc. So yeah, in-world it’s a good question, but out-of-world, I think the author of this SCP didn’t want to go there.

I am a little surprised that this thing doesnt have addictive properties considering the initial benefits..but then you remember one thing in the world of SCP: If it sounds too good to be true with these anomalies...it probably is. But let me say this: Jack Bright of all people being a lead researcher on this thing tells you all you need to know about the dangers of this anomaly. What is intriguing is how the Beta stages make the mental complications take physical form and can have an area of effect. Very nice, Good Doctor. Very Nice

I can relate to the woman getting addicted to the feeling of being "normal". As an autist with chronic depression I would have given everything to finally fit in with others. The straitjacket went through a period of manifesting its anomalous powers in the physical form of what the test subjects, who wears the jacket, describe their feelings/state of being. Noteable outcomes were from patients that described their mental state as heavy, light headed, out of body, stetched thin or hot/cold. Where as the jacket caused the subject to transform by rapidly gaining weight, head becoming filled with cotton, head separation from body, physically stretched(as the patient in the video), exploding (as patient in video) or being able to bring a small area down to absolute zero temperature. Under no circumstances are patients who, "haven't been feeling themselves lately" be allowed to go beyond first tier.

Oh, wow, an SCP trusted in the hands of the Dr. Bright that isn't SCP-963. Come to think of it, I wonder if Dr. Bright uses the straight jacket for the alpha phase to deal with any mental effects of being immortal and yet can still experience death of the host body wearing 963. I remember in one story, when held captive by enemies, the enemy kept putting 963 on each teammate that was with Dr. Bright and kill that host body just to put 963 on another teammate to do it again causing Dr. Bright to lose his sanity with the repeated death experience of each teammate's body he was force to take over.

I'll give this scp jacket one thing, the positive effect it had on the wearer seems intriguing and the negative effect it did afterwards definitely makes it dangerous regardless.

The quality of your videos is up to par with animated cable tv programs. But unique, indie, unabashed, storylines they would never allow to be made. Easily become one of my favorite channels. Seriously impressed by you guys over and over again. Unquestionably the best SCP channel also. I genuinely can't express enough how much fun I've had watching your videos, and I really hope your get the funding and support you need to keep going.

Ok wow Dr. Bob (even though he was near perfect before) improved, This content is nice and I like the way he was in I assume was the archives and he looked forward and pointed and shacked the file, and this scp is one of the interesting scps that have multiple possibilities like that one scp where you put something in the input and something better comes out the output. Either way Dr. Bob is an amazing story teller and would also make a good podcast creator.

I would happily watch a video discussing how this SCP reacts to every single mental disorder known to man. Especially psychopathy, ADHD (I suffer from that my self), Bipolar, DID, ODD, OCD, and Kleptomania. I wonder if/how it would interact with psychological complexes (Oedipal, superiority, inferiority, etc) and diseases like dementia. I hope we get more tales and stories relating to this SCP!

Just for anybody who didn’t pick up on it: During time point beta, it seems like it begins to manifest the wearer’s respective mental illness in a physical form A guy who’s paranoid and keeps hearing voices talking to him starts growing bumps in that each have a mouth and voice box that speak to him A woman who can’t get enough to eat and always feels hungry starts getting eaten by a newly grown digestive tract A man with pyromania explodes and grows an organ that seems to generate heat A woman who was described as being pulled apart by thousands of tiny issues that she can’t do anything about is stretched all along the floor I can’t make the connection with the schizophrenia dude though, if you can please explain it

So this SCP nullifies or absorbs the mental illness of the wearer. Beta point would be when the SCP is in a way filled and cannot absorbs it anymore. So it would use another way to fullfil his purpose, and transfer the mental illness physically to the wearer back.

Now I'm curious what time that psychiatrist was practicing in. It's very unlikely a modern psychiatrist would give someone who has a potentiality incurable mental illness the experience of a temporary cure. It wouldn't motivate u so much as make u feel like nothing that isn't as good as that feeling is normal. The catch of most serious mental illnesses is that u can't cure them u can only treat them.

I LOVE this idea because it leaves so many questions! For instance, how does it affect other mental conditions that haven’t been included here? Do certain traits matter, gender, age, height, weight? Do the effects get worse the longer you wear it and do they continue when you take it off? Does it affect people with the same mental condition in different ways? Does the spectrum matter? Like, does someone with severe depression have worse effects than someone with minor depression? Feel free to add more questions, I’d love to hear them!
