Always sad to see John not using the full resource of the clock throughout the game and ending up with a walloping .58 seconds.

0:33 I think you face that line so often because it's recommended by Simon Williams (playing Bc4 and then d3 instead of d4, to prevent pressure on the d-pawn)

I kept thinking, take the Rook, take the Rook! Oh, the Bishop?
@jimhenderson6440
@jimhenderson6440 4 ай бұрын
Interesting endgame! If you take the exchange instead of the bishop, is there not a certain similarity to the famous endgame in the Alekhine-Tartakower game in Vienna in 1922? Alekhine remarked that Tartakower's pawns, on the same color squares as his bishop, were "inoffensive," being easily blockaded by Alekhine's king while his rook could attack from behind. Of course, even if this reasoning leads to the conclusion that taking the exchange is easily winning, you still have to work out why taking the piece instead gives White counterplay.

No f*c%ing way! Again?? Silky smooth until the pawn conundrum (while chatting with imaginary friends...) and then an ooopsie...but victory! Incredible, John. Just freakin' incredible...

@@JohnBartholomewChess is there a reason for it? I myself I'm roughly 1500 elo and I score good with QD8( your course) and QD6 without knowing an awful lot of lines. QA5 is something I would love to learn in the near future as wel. Is it still oke to put your Queen on A5, pawns on C6 E6 Bishop F5 knight on F6? Or is the C6 pawn something you need to be carefull about? Thanks for your reply

In this game, would it have been better to castle Kingside instead?
@brycekelly3509

Personally I am a bit afraid of kingside castling when they have the open file to attack down, so that's why I usually go queenside in positions like this.

“when [the law] has exceeded its proper functions, it has not done so merely in some inconsequential and debatable matters. The law has gone further than this; it has acted in direct opposition to its own proper purpose. The law has been used to destroy its own objective: It has been applied to annihilating the justice that it was supposed to maintain; to limiting and destroying rights which its real appeal was to respect. The law has placed the collective force at the disposal of the unscrupulous who wish, without risk, to exploit the person, liberty, and property of others. It has converted plunder into a right, in order to protect plunder. And it has converted lawful defense into a crime, in order to punish lawful defense.” - Frederic Bastiat
