Note: The first wire was not a dehumidifier, just a power chord. I Don’t strip dehumidifier chords, just put in 40% appliance wire pile, but that chord shown was worth stripping off outer coating as it was very thin.

An easy hint/upgrade for you. Xmas lights, when I cut each light socket from the wire, barely time use & the sockets are cbm(copper bearing material) pays about $0.06 lb So a big deal there from Xmas to 50% or so. I also took a load of wire in just last week & the scrap yard classified my wire @ 50-55% & 30-35%. This was a very new price point here. I've never seen it before. This was for the light cords & lower was for communication wire types(computer cords, cell charger wires, RCA & so on. I'm to the point I don't care to clip the ends off anymore because of the time vs profit margin on these. Well here's a breakdown of the prices here in my area: Shred(tin)$145 ton Heavy steel/iron $180-$185 ton Copper: #2 copper $2.70 Insulated #3 30-35% $0.40 Insulated #2 50-55% $1.10 Cast Al $0.40 Old sheet Al $0.35 Yellow Brass $1.75 lb Al=Aluminum I do try to cut all light cords though. But not the communication like I said. Also there's a few things that may help you out with weight for you. Mark your tubs with the weight of them on the sides. If they can clearly see it & they trust you they'll just slap the weight in the computer. Don't screw them with a very light weight or they will be sure to make it harder on you. Also if you go to the same yard frequently I'd suggest taking a cooler with fresh water or cheap drinks to pass out. They don't receive anything from other folks & are sure to remember you on a positive note. I also make sure to give my crane operator a drink whether he helps me out or not. They are cooped up in that thing for hours & are really appreciative! May you have a great turkey day if in US or Canada!

I have probably 3 55 gallon drums full of various cords I been saving a couple of years. I was going to sell the cut cords I thought people would use them for projects or something. I couldn't find any listings on eBay. I already cut all the 2 wire ones to get ready to strip I have at least a plastic tote of the 3 wire ones left I figured I'd ask before I started cutting them.

I just took in my first wire load yesterday. Looks like I could have upgraded it 🫣 Here in New Zealand we have domestic wire with plugs then 30/45/60 & 80%. I removed all the plugs to get paid as 30%. If I had removed the outer coating it probably would have been 45% which would have paid me an extra $35NZD.

I just found around 57 feet of 12/3 Romex.

P.s. I did not have any Christmas lights in the pile. They are worth $ 0.40 lb. In London, Ont.

This may be kinda a silly question but, when you clip the brass wire connector ends off wires, do you just leave that tiny little bit of wire sheathing that the brass connected wraps around at the end of the wire? (Hope i described that well enough) I say wire connectors, I think they are really called lugs. When I cut them off the wire I get a tiny bit of the wire sheathing which stands out because of the colour of the wire sheathing. That doesn't make brass "dirty brass" does it? Such a tiny tiny piece of plastic but ... I don't know 😂. Only been to scrap yard once and handed in a few hundred pounds of clean brass. The guy didn't even look at it and just dumped it into the bin. Made me feel like I spent way to much time making sure it was 100% clean. ...any thoughts?

On a list my scrapyard gave me it says they accept 20, 40, and 75 percent. Is 75 percent much different from 60?

Have you ever thought about using pyrolysis and turning that plastic back into oil ? Wouldn't it be better to recycle the plastic into something usable instead of it going to landfills ? Then, you would have cleaned off copper as well. I've been melting my scrap copper, then pouring into art molds, hoping to come up with a decent product I can sell for more than scrapping. Just a thought ....
