A few old computer tube monitors that I scrapped in the past had an aluminum one instead of copper.

I scrape a lot of old T.V. in Alberta big small I take them all, and it has been my experience that about 25% of them are Aluminium, I just snip them with the side cutters and if it shines silver inside then u know, if not, it will be copper, so it just a matter of snip and look

Yup, they sometimes are Al, some folks apparently have been getting just Al and say I'm full of it that most are copper... oh well....lol

The main difference I noticed is that old Sony TVS for instance have a massive copper degausing cable- but alot of smaller tvs had either copper or alum - but almost all computer monitors had exclusively alum

They also have what I have heard of called "gun-mounts" that are made of up glass that is not made anymore, some really good white glass and some other interesting colors, they use to be worth a LOT more than they are now before a new white was developed but they are still the original white and it looks good... Can be worth something to a glassblower, even if not a lot, its something! :) They are *about 4" x 1.5" x 0.4" with a little shaping to them, mostly a little wider on the ends and thinner in the middle but basically a rectangle shape. I think you only get 2-5 per big booty tv's hah.

That little metal box, usually thin steel: There are usually 1 or 2 crystal oscillators in them when you open them up, I've seen as many as 3. And those threaded connectors are usually brass. We're lucky here, our state has an electronics recycling program, and they are free to dispose of there at their yard. Well, free for now; hidden "taxes" keep creeping in.

Yeah the broken glass is the least of your problems cracking those tubes. They're under vacuum and tend to explode when cracked. Aside from leaded glass dust you'll also be inhaling phosphorus when that glass shatters. Then there's the tiny razor shards of glass they tend to throw everywhere. I haven't met an epoxied on one yet that didn't come off without breaking the tube. There's ust enough epoxy to hold it in place during normal use and some gentle twisting back and forth always works them loose.

Some tube tvs if have the right inputs are sought after by retro gamers. Old games look very different on a modern flat screen. I guess they desire the original estetics.

Honestly new flat big screens go for 300 bucks, it’d be such a bitch trying to sell these. Scrapping is more fun and the buyer is virtually guaranteed to take your metal.

Id like to know if you can take liquid nitrogen or poor mans nitrogen and freeze no 2 wires to crack the insulation off and use it also to flake gold off of electronic surfaces instead of using chemicals. Have you tried that? Im planning on trying .
