@@RLA1983 charlie I noticed you scrap a ton of water heaters you remove all of the brass relief valves and drain cocks but are you removeing the square aluminum control valve? There is a brass insert connected to the aluminum valve at least a half pound or more of brass and a pound of dirty aluminum it only takes a minute or two to remove them also on the electric water heaters there is usually two small coils or inserts top and bottom they are copper also and can be removed easily with only four screws or bolts about a half a pound of copper in each one! Just a little tip from a old scraper!

Those copper coils in boilers are called domestic oils. Some boilers have em others don't. Domestic coils are how people heated up there hot water if the don't have a water heater. When you scrap em you'll get number 2 copper from them.

That second coil is for domestic hot water. If it was an oil fired boiler, smart people when you’re not heating the house wouldn’t want to be burning oil year around for just hot water, so you would have that section blocked off and have a standalone electric heater for hot water.

The coil is to heat hot water for bathing and such. It's for old houses that don't have water heaters. But since you got to run the boiler 24x7 to heat water..its not cost efficient. You want your mind really blown? Some water heaters..older use copper water tanks.not steel. Just think how many 50 lb copper water heaters you thrown for shred. I only ever find one in 10 years. I have seen brass window screens..etc. the old vintage stuff is better quality than today. Hell some buy steel from the Carnegie Era due to higher carbon count. Scrap steel from ww1-ww2 is highly sought after and goes 10x steel price. Ps last tip. Look for chiller systems for ac. The old chiller systems from office buildings. Looks like a big 4 cylinder air compressor. The tubes inside the tank are copper. I only ever found one of those but got 800 lbs of copper heat exchanger out of them. Never be afraid to cut something apart for a peep.
