I never want to know my current score while playing. Sometimes when playing in a tournament or scramble and another player has my card, they typically tell me my current score or ask if I want to know it. I try to avoid being aware of it, but what I do is play 3-hole rounds at a time. Example, for the first 3 holes, if I score +1 or +2, then I forget that score and start fresh for the next 3-hole round. My goal is to score par or better for each 3-hole round, This method gives be a chance to re-focus on the next 3-hole round, if the last one was over par. ⛳

Liked the video. Working on chipping and putting takes pressure off having to hit the green. Amazingly enough, when that pressure is removed, you hit more greens. Also, it's "Landing" not "Ladning".

Averaging over 2 birdies a round is crazy. That means some rounds you're getting none, some rounds you're getting 4 or 5 birdies. Crazy.

If you want to get to scratch quick, try this: Play the tips and shoot the same scores. If you shoot 72-75 from the tips, the course rating is anywhere from 73-75, so you'll lower your handicap fast. The handicap system accounts for the tees you play, and if you're low single figure you can probably play back a teebox or two and still shoot 74.

Interesting point - the handicap system is super confusing most golfers. Its shocking how many people think handicap is average score

I'm a single digit golfer. My short game is very good. My driver is longer and more accurate than scratch. I've been as low as 1 but am playing more like 6 right now. When I was playing around 1 I was hitting 12 to 14 girs per round but I had a tournament where I hit 15 greens and had 11 3 putts. Shot 80 8 over. I decide to work hard on the short game. My putting is a lot better and my chipping is money. But now I can't hit a green to save my life. Maybe 6 to 9 a round. My bogey count has jumped my birdie count has dropped and even though my driver is usually 10 out of 12 on the driving holes the 2 misses are almost always disaster holes. Double bogeys if I have to rehit bogey if I'm lucky enough to have to punch out I have had a couple eagles on a par 5 and a 320 yd par 4 that was close to an ace. I feel like I am playing ok I am just not scoring. Golf is very frustrating right now. Bright side is I have been making a lot more putts inside 10 ft. Downside is I have had multiple round where I was even thru 14 holes but the other four holes are killing me. Plus 6 to eight including 2 triples one each round. Any suggestions

That can definitely happen at times, easy for one area to go when you’re working on others. I would say keep with one shot shape, pre-shot routine & check alignment in practice

curious from what distance those 3 putts were from. GIR can be deceiving as valuable if the greens are giant and you're hitting them from 50+' away.

One thing I always question about putting averages relative to one’s handicap. On the surface it seems cut and dry but if it’s not taking into consideration the avg distance for 1,2,3 putts which is a direct correlation of avg distance to pin of approach shots it quickly becomes a chicken or the egg scenario. I think it’s rather foolish to try to become better at making putts outside of 8-10 feet when you could just as easily focus on better approach shots especially 125 yards and in. Everyone knows the best putters are the best at getting it close to the hole on the approach shot.
@wickedsmartgolf
@wickedsmartgolf Ай бұрын
Few things - no doubt hitting it closer gives you a better chance to make more putts. But everyone is different for sure - one 5HDCP player might putt like a scratch golfer while another might putt like 10 HDCP but have a better long game. Regardless though putting is vital to success and something I don't think players can work on enough. Mainly on the mental side with getting into a good routine, committing to a line, and not being worried about the results

Does that data set show how often driver is used for par 4/5 holes at scratch?
@wickedsmartgolf
@wickedsmartgolf Ай бұрын
The data is from Arccos & published on Golf Monthly. Since Arccos has trackers in each club I would assume it’s based on individual clubs to differentiate driver, 3W, etc. as it’s all in the app

Completely different per player for reference first time I reached scratch as a kid I only hit it 240 ish so the clubs off tee would be very different now that I hit it 330 plus off tee it’s all relative to your distances

I looked up the Arccos data. Driving avg for +0.1 or better age 20 to 59 seems to be about 270. I think that's accurate. Last summer I averaged probably 250 or 255 and was a 9.8. I'm probably 240 or 245 with driver right now and I'm a 15.4 because of injuries and trying out new clubs.

@@emoney- how do you like Arccos? I'm just getting started
@emoney-
@emoney- Ай бұрын
@@wickedsmartgolf I LOVE Arccos -- only thing is it takes about 5-6 rounds to get a good subset of data loaded. The one thing that Arccos has helped me do is prioritize my practice focus areas. In the past, I would get a feel from round to round of what I think went wrong and then hyperfocus on improving that during the following week before my next round on the weekend. The problem is that I would see improvement in that single area where I focused during the week and decline in some of the other areas. With Arccos's 3 key insights (3 things that are going well and 3 things where I need to improve), I can actually dedicate a specific amount of time to those 1-3 areas and assign targeted time of focus during my practice week, while also continuing maintenance practice on the other areas. I typically use a weighted format. I dedicate 50-60% of my time on the areas of focus and 40-50% on maintenance areas. In a typical week, I would allocate 3-4 hrs of practice so that would mean ~2 hours on areas of focus (across two days) and 2 hrs on maintenance. I haven't personally used Decade, the jury is out on which skill players it actually benefits (Lower - Mid HCP vs mid-high HCP). I can say wholeheartedly that I've went from a 25 HCP to 15.7 HCP since I've implemented Arccos back in March

I stopped watching after you talked about number of putts. Even Lou Stagner (of Arccos fame) has said that is a useless stat and should be thrown in the garbage. It is completely dependent on how far your first putt is (and therefore, your approach/short game). Does not give any actionable info on your putting.

lol I don’t disagree as strokes gained is a much better metric but this info is from Arccos data and want to help people with a baseline. I then go on to share tips that will help on the greens. I’ve had Lou on my show where we covered that in depth.
