SCREAM FORTRESS: The History of TF2's Halloween Event

It's almost that time of year again, and I'm excited as heck! Around the end of October every year, Valve's TF Team releases a Team Fortress 2 update that adds in various Halloween-related goodies. This tradition has been going strong since 2009, and over the course of those ten years, a lot has been added to the game. Here's a full history crash course on every single Scream Fortress update to date!

I'm well aware that Halloween maps are currently available in Casual Mode, but we don't yet know whether this is a bug or intentional. Hopefully the TF Team can clear this up soon! EDIT: They've enabled past Halloween events while they work on a new Scream Fortress update for this year!

Aar You can do it now? I tried last night and it would say “Queued for casual” for like a split second and would stop queueing. I’m hoping valve are doing something for scream fortress instead of enabling Halloween mode and bringing back the Halloween maps. Merasmissions were my favourite part of the update.

@@kannatheweeb8836 about that, as you herd in the vid, its seen that most scream fortress uptades happend mid october, i think valve pushed the uptade early because of the community getting restless. Im hopeful that mid october we'll get something new

@@kannatheweeb8836 I would prefer to get a normal version of the Jungle Inferno Blood Money tickets which allows me to buy civilian, freelance and mercenary weapon skins and occasional blue cosmetics. Let's call it TF ind Coin tokens, you get them on level ups and in the case we get free class and weapon contracts that give us those tokens for a reward and to learn the classes and weapons, we also get them from those training contracts as well.

EDIT: Valve confirmed that the Halloween map reactivation was intentional and that a proper Scream Fortress update is coming soon. ---- For those unaware, the old Scream Fortress maps are available right now. This isn’t officially Scream Fortress 2019 yet and it isn’t a bug, the Halloween event was scheduled ahead of time to begin on October 1st (based on your computer’s calendar). There hasn’t been an actual update yet, the maps were just reactivated and the Halloween theme turned on. We may or may not get an actual update, depending on the TF2 team (who, of course, have been completely silent so far).

Scream Fortress is what made halloween my favorite holiday. HHH and Monoculus were such insane updates for any game adding completely new gameplay elements and changing everything. It became my holiday celebration to marathon TF2 for Halloween. I miss the surprises they used to add. NPC boss with unlockable rewards, cut off new area of a map only accessible by certain means. So much fun they could add that is new. And halloween is the most creative and awesome workshop items. Cosmetics, taunts, weapons and maps it's all magical and they really need to make a big Halloween update adding a lot of new content and their own new theme and ideas, especially weapons with unique and magical properties to really bring life into TF2.

oh my god, this video has me so excited. Valve has been making a lot of scream fortress mistakes recently (Merasmissions not working in 2015, the devalue of taunts in 2016 etc.) but I can't not love this month for TF2 alone. So much excitement.

Thank you for the video! I'm a big fan of TF2 but I don't really play it (the servers intimidate me....also i'm awful at the game LOL). I joined an art trade event that's Scream Fortress themed, so I really needed background info in order to make a poster for my assigned partner. You provided all of the information I needed. i still remember all halloween events. i remember when the presents that would spawn in the maps and make everyone freakout and try to find it but i was always the one who claimed it and everyone hated me. awman halloween updates has always been the best.

I started playing tf2 like a month or 2 before end of the line. I have fond memories of me and my brother (as in we grew up together not as in blood related) going to our homes(we used to live next to each other)take our laptops cuz that's all we had back then and just play the hell out of the game. Aar please do a tips and tricks video on all the magic spells, normal and rare, the maps and how to play best on them and other stuff it's actually really hard for new players to figure out which spells od what and end up just not playing scream fortress because of how complicated it is tip: if you have the invis spell for the engineer, build a level 3 sentry, activate the spell and pick the sentry up so that you can put it beside the enemy spawn doors without them noticing so you can get some easy kills.

I've fallen away from the game in the past few years but man I remember playing the shit out of the original Scream Fortress event when I was in high school. I played the event map nonstop until it ended, it was great fun. The next year with the horseman was really cool too but I don't think I played that one as much as next year's Eyeaduct even, that one I got super frustrated with the fact that the presents that spawned were mapwide and any player could grab them, meaning everyone always played scouts and were just camping around waiting for them to spawn, though when I finally got some it was really special. I played a little of the Merasmus one and barely touched the Helltower, and I don't think I've played the event since, and I hadn't even seen the 2018 maps until this video. Maybe I'll actually play this years event and experience some Nostalgia.

I first started playing tf2 in 2014 I think, it was in the fall so some of my first matches were in Halloween mode and I remember hell tower was one of the very first maps I’ve ever played and it took me awhile to learn it was event Hightower. This was back when people still capped on hightower lol

Played every halloween event since 2010 and the best times were when the haunted halloween gift would spawn for everyone, and 90% of players would be scout hiding on the battlements with bonk atomic punch waiting for it to spawn so they could get the new item sets. ( at the time there was only one gift that spawned for everyone and only 1 person could get it ) best times
