Scream Factory has just released Fred Dekker's 1986 cult classic Night of the Creeps on Blu-ray and I've got the full review.
Starring Tom Atkins and Jason Lively, this creature feature has a bit of everything -- alien brain slugs, zombies, a kick-butt detective, frat pranks, and plenty of great one-liners and special effects from two thirds of the KNB Effects team. Oh, and a Dick Miller cameo -- you can never go wrong with those.
They don't make them like this anymore.

*Fun Fact:* If you're a right-handed law enforcement officer, you're supposed to display your badge with your left hand (or vice-versa). I remember learning that back in the OG X-Files days. 1:20 Judging by the dead eyes, that alien probably had gotten zombified. 6:42 Points with his right hand... 6:44 ...then it's his left hand. "Do you expect me to believe that you don't know left from right?!" 10:43 Check that chicken-wing, Atkins!

@@TheHorrorGeek I was going to write this out, but figured "What the hell" so copy/pasted the info from the IMDB page. I had read Carpenters interview about the film back in the day in Fangoria, and was quite excited to see it. I have some love for Halloween 3, and would have loved the original concept to continue in this vein. "John Carpenter didn't plan on having Michael Myers in every Halloween movie, only the first. He wanted a different Halloween related story each time. But after the first Halloween (1978) was a success, producers forced him to use Myers again. He did, but killed off Myers and Loomis to be done with them. Then he produced Season of the Witch to get back to his original plan. But at that point people were expecting Myers again so it failed. Carpenter then dropped the franchise and sold the rights years later because he wasn't interested in doing more Myers. The new owners then brought Myers and Loomis back in 1988 with no explanation how they survived." - from IMDB That said, I also believe absolutely everyone has the right to enjoy or dislike any movie, book, or music, as they wish. I still would have loved to see where Carpenter took the series, elsewhere.

I bought Night of the Creeps on bluray....its one of my favorite movies of the 80s....i love the way the movie starts with the "Night of the Creeps" logo moving all over the screen...then you see a black and white scene of an axe murder that happened years ago, except for the blue Ford T-Bird that the girl is sitting in when the killer chops her up......Jason Lively sort of gives it a "Griswald" movie feel that i have never been too crazy about but still, I was on the lookout for the bluray of this right up to when it was finally released....The great Tom Atkins is in the movie too and I like him a lot....the aliens at the beginning were a little too fake looking but after that, it becomes a good movie.......for a college kid movie, this was one of the best of the era, in my opinion....

This was actually a really good movie which played on comedy, horror and scifi which was probably too much for people who were into Jason, Freddy and Michael at the time. So much love to see it again, don't watch it since nearly 25 Years and I keep a great souvenir of it. It was very fun. I saw it on copy tapes with Extra-sangsues (leeches) title and missed the begining, now I know it's real title I'll maybe found it easily so thanks for the review.

This one is on my own Top Ten list of horror films. I'd noticed a while back that the way the "cryo lab" was set up was identical to the 50's B-movie sets, with solid paint on plain walls, lots of blinking lights and ominous consoles, and labels on damn near everything. At the time, I thought "Huh, that's super clever. They literally bring a 1950s B-movie monster into the present day, and they use the lab as a transition." I'm glad to know it was intentional, and that this movie was full of love of the genre. (And, yea, F for Alfalfa, he was the only victim to understand what was happening to him as it happened. But he took his slugs with him.)

I still often say "thrill me" in response to people. Went to a Fangoria con, or tried to, in the early 2000s with Tom Atkins at it, but by the time we go there, it was apparently so full we couldn't get in. However, this was NYC, and Akira was being re-released in limited, so, went to see that instead.

Loved night of the creeps. Never forget when I first saw it. Yes the ending you showed I saw on TV. As well as when a slug entered the cats grave. When I saw it shown on regular tv I watched it with two cousins. I actually pointed out scenes didn't see before.

Yeah it was crazy when they’d add scenes for tv versions. For years I was convinced I dreamt a scene in Halloween where Loomis talks to a medical board or whatever about Michael Myers, but it turns out it was just an added scene for the NBC tv version. Same with the end of Jaws 4. Like thanks for giving me the Mandela Effect guys. 😂

This video (and now Evil Dead) are the ones that disappointed me the most. Neither got the kind of views I'd hoped. This was back when I was still trying to figure out what I was doing (I still haven't figured that out...) and I can't go back and watch these now because I feel like the old videos are just terrible, but I do wish more people would have watched this one. I have some of these old videos I'd like to redo because they were done before I was doing Sick Flicks and I like to think I'm better at doing this now. This one and Stagefright, in particular. I will say I don't do a lot of the splatter comedies anymore. This one and Bad Taste and Street Trash were really hard to do. They're already funny. They make fun of themselves...it's hard to find better jokes than the ones that are already in them. :p

This was possibly the first horror movie I ever saw, though edited for USA Network. In fact the original cemetery ending, which was re-added for cable, was the only ending I ever knew and it wasn’t until much later that the studio meddling dog jump scare existed and even later that it was the theatrical ending. Last year I drove 80 miles to see this at the Drafthouse, even though it came with the lame theatrical ending, being an original print. Last year was The Blob 35th anniversary and I was hoping it would get an anniversary revival screening but alas. Of all the movies I was too young to see in theaters as a kid I still haven’t caught Blob, but thank goodness for the Drafthouse employee who programmed the screening of Creeps. Two 80s gems that don’t get enough love but it thrills me to know someone else appreciates them as much as I do.

@@TheHorrorGeek I'm a fan of labors of love as a whole, regardless of genre, where you can tell the filmmakers were committed 100% to making a good product. I have no problem with being intentionally cheesy/trashy/low-budget, it's just not really my thing. I've outgrown the detachment and irony from the 90s to present. I like when people care, and the people who made those two movies clearly cared. That feels especially rare these days. Not only that but I'm not a slave to nostalgia. If something I liked as a kid doesn't age well I'll admit it. Creeps is still loads of fun and still works well over 30 years later. The nice thing about getting older is you're able to appreciate things all the more

This movie is a pastiche bordering on patchwork quilt. The slugs from Cberg's SHIVERS, the mangled cat from REANIMATOR, a naked body face down on the floor (not to mention brain eating) ala RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, etc. But it's used in service of an enjoyable (if not startlingly original) story. And it is fun playing "spot the swipe- name the source", or is it just me who does that.
