Saaame, and I am hearing this from just about everyone I know too. We're living in some pretty crappy times, I think it's bringing out the nostalgia for most of us. Hopefully we can get back to some of that in some ways if enough people want it enough. Less social/political chaos, more creativity and hope.

What I particularly love about Scream is that it can belong in two different genres. On one hand, you have the horror genre, which most people like to associate it with, and on the other hand, we have dark comedy. Back then, this was a pretty refreshing entry into the slasher sub-genre of horror films and practically revived slasher movies altogether, making Scream's impact even more powerful.

+Darth Rhevar Also, Scream can be considered a hip, teen murder mystery/thriller. It's that aspect that I like about it, and the fact that the killer's motive is powerful and tragic in the tradition of classic mysteries.

I know this has already been said billions of times, but: *RIP* *Wes* *Craven*. You sir are an awesome horror filmmaker and will forever be seen as a legend. ;) _New_ _Nightmare_ and _Scream_ were the very first Craven films I've seen as a young lad (prob 4 or 5). Some people may scorn me for this, but I believe _Scream_ is my all-time favorite Wes Craven film, cause I love its meta-humor poking fun at the horror clichés; I love Neve Campbell's performance as Sidney Prescott; Plus, this song fits so well in the end credits. So in conclusion: Thank you so much, Mr. Craven, for the amazing scares and thrills you've gave us. Your legacy is cemented.

@@kevincogan5174 That was actually the first Craven film I saw in theaters. I still enjoy it as a Hitchcock thriller (set on an airplane and features an assassination plot), and it introduced me to Cillian Murphy, he was hypnotic in that film, and certainly one of Rachel McAdams' more underrated films post-Mean Girls.

theres a certain bittersweet feeling to this song and a bittersweet feeling to scream but only the first that the other films never recaptured. theres a sort of sadness to having this group of people getting killed by two killers they thought were their friends. and imo the key to that is how well the casting and the characters were written. and this song just captures something like innocence lost and the end of an era, its hard to describe but its melancholic
@StarWolf_88
@StarWolf_88 11 ай бұрын
Well said. It also shows the characters in a lighter side one last time.. and for some reason Gale looking nuts lol. I always thought that's what the end credits was in a way...a farewell to innocence.

@danielvillalobos9432-Agreed, though personally I also got a bittersweet feeling from the 5th movie as well. I thought the 5th one actually did a really good job at capturing that feeling of sadness for everything the original group had lost over the course of the series by the time you get to the end (especially after finding out poor Dewey's fate in the 5th movie. That broke my heart).

I first saw Scream when I was 4 years old in 2005, my grandma had the movie and I was always so fascinated by the cover. For whatever reason, she let me watch it on the huge TV she had sitting on the floor in her den, just like that TV in the opening with Barrymore. Me and my cousins would always always put on scream and gather around that big TV on the floor. Scream is almost more than a movie to me, but something that really just keeps my childhood on record and I will forever be grateful for this wonderful movie and the series it spawned, it really was such a huge part of my childhood. 🥺❤️

Now in my 30's, whenever I hear this song or watching Scream, it takes me back to that time as a kid. For the coming Scream 5 film, I kinda hope they'll play this at the ending credits. The first film refreshed the horror genre, and it be a an awesome tribute to Wes Craven and to the first Scream movie.

MaX1MuS2k7 The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1991 kinda set the tone for the 1990s. Economic expansion and a flourishing job market didn't hurt either. Thus the culture and art reflected the optimism. That's why we look back so fondly at the '90s.
@browngirlinaclownworld2077
@browngirlinaclownworld2077 2 жыл бұрын
@@jw870206 Well, that's kind of an oversimplification. That optimism only lasted a hot minute. 1992 - 1995 broke that optimism slowly but surely. The Yugoslav Wars and the Bosnian Genocide, the Rwandan Genocide, the Waco Siege, the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, the LA Race Riots and the Oklahoma City Bombing curb stomped that optimism and that's part of why dominating genres of the time would be nihilistic Grunge, Gangsta Rap, sardonic Britpop (Oasis and Blur) and Goth-tinged Industrial Metal (NIN and Marilyn Manson) and why you would get snarky Gen X dark comedies dominating the era.

i have faith in Scream 5, it's gonna be made by the Radio Silence group(a trio of the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett and executive producer Chad Villela) who was responsible for the awesome horror flick Ready or Not that mixes comedy, graphic violence with a great thriller story and funny characters. The script is written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Rusick, Kevin Williamson who is producing had given his blessing, even Happy Death Day's Director praised. David Arquette and Courteney Cox are coming back, Neve Campbell haven't confirmed yet, but maybe she will come back as well, seeing the slasher sub genre reviving this days with the awesome soft reboot of Halloween, it will be probably good.

I remember when I first saw this movie back when it was just released on video, I was so surprised when Barrymore's character died like 6 minutes into the movie. I was one of many convinced her character would live since she was the most well known at that time so it was just expected for me. This song just screams (no pun intended) 90s music.

MelaninonPoint Love Scream. I wonder if Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson and Drew Barrymore got the idea of killing her off from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. And of course Janet Leigh's death in the shower by Norman Bates. Like Drew, Janet was the big name star in Psycho. Yet Marion Crane like Casey in Scream was killed early. Two Legendary Horror films. Two Epic killings of your big stars.

Emmanuel Williams yes I agree it is most likely an homage to PSYCHO in that it's like a an early sign that if the marquee star dies right at the beginning the movie could go in any direction[the movie in general is an homage to SLASHER films with nodding references throughout!!] one noted line states ''slow down there your beginning to sound like some WES CARPENTER movie or something!! I don't have to explain that one!! Enjoy the Day!!

This song is a MASTERPIECE, I´ve said it several times and I know it´s a cover but the last 3 minutes are AWESOME.
