The Desert Sessions is a truly underrated music project/collab. If the people involved had more notoreity and respect trust me, these recordings would be deemed classics

Did anyone else notice the outro riff getting recylcled on Wellwater Conspiracy's Sullen Glacier? John McBain played a role in this particular installment of the Desert Sessions. One of the unsung heroes of guitar in my humble opinion. It's cool that these desert sessions were truly designed to inspire the people who were involved in their recording. Also cool that we get to hear later versions of these songs and/or riffs re-recorded or re-imagined.

I think QOTSA is a bit like "Josh Homme Band" now, but it's true that he's a genius. This song is awsome.

Last I checked, it is a classic. The first 10" they put out in the series is selling for between $500 and $700, depending on the condition. How much you wanna bet that's not how much it cost when it came out? Things that aren't classics don't go up in value by hundreds of dollars in 15 years. They end up in the 25 cent bin at your local record store.

The cool thing about playin' music is that certain folks have different dialects - and when you experiment with others - cool shit can happen. There ain't NOTHIN' compares to a jam that when you're done - you ain't sure where you just went - but fuck - ya know you been there . . . .

This is easily one of my favorite Desert Sessions songs, and the rereleasing of the debut.... I'm very skeptical..... Josh Homme has drifted so far from those roots.... plus theres no Alfredo........ I slowly grew to appreciate the debut it def took me a while but now that I realize its awesomeness I'm kind of afraid it will ruin its reputation.... but with just iffy QotSA fans it will open their eyes to what they used to be like.

So right at the first second does anyone else expect the Mind Eraser No Chaser riff to come in lol :p It's not similar at all but the 3 or 4 mutes he does sound exactly like TCV's start lol Fuckin amazing song either way!!!! The Desert Sessions = Best Collabs Ever....

I agree with RushAthem69 that Homme has moved the band so far from the debut that it doesn't seem to make sense. I know lots of people want the rerelease (I... well my gf has an original) but I mean he said if you weren't around for Kyuss then you missed it and I feel the same should be true of the debut due to the difference in Qotsa then and now!

@nagyiman QOTSA was always the "Josh Homme Band". He actually recorded the first album primarily by himself, with the bass recorded under the pseudonym "Carlo Von Sexron". Sure he always had a slew of musicians coming in and out of the revolving door that was once QOTSA membership, but it's always been HIS band.

the point of the band was to move int different areas from one album to the next though. they wanted to do everything that everyone else hadnt

I made it for Kyuss, but was still late to the party. Fortunately for me I know how to scour music bins.

@burningxdimx i think many people mistake progression for being mainstream. As these musicians play and play and play, theyre doomed t get better at their instruments and therefore to be more and more experimental. Two examples come to mind: FNM they progressed and commited commercial suicide (and chenged music forever), but Slayer has been putting the same album so many times that i just better listen to South of Heaven or Reing in Blood. Not to dis, i hail Slayer.

The end sounds so much like Black Mud by the Black keys (or the other way round).. Found nothing on it though.. Nobody ever noticed?

@RushAnthem69 There's nothing wrong with progression, just look at the band in your name. Rush has never stood still for long, and with constant exploration of new sounds they keep the music interesting, much like QotSA. If every album sounded the same I'd definitely be tired of both bands by now.
