Fun fact, these guys can scream at around 100 decibels, that’s the equivalent of a hair dryer or subway train going down the tracks.

The cicadas we have in the US in a large group can generate 70dB. The African cicada can reach 107dB about chainsaw loud, but it has to be measured at 2 feet away to achieve that.

Why are people so mad about the wings? Cicadas have some of the most durable insect wings that are meant to withstand being shaken around and pecked by birds. It takes a surprising amount of effort to break them.
