+Myllena Lara Alves da Silva I know that wild birds are not used to being touched by people and I can see that this one is readily taking bits of meat -- it looks appreciative of the meat, but not of being touched, and it's making noises which are consistent with a threat display.

I don't think he's "taking" very well. He's probably scared. He's very tiny. If that was a Great Horned Owl, he probably wouldn't be very amenable to petting. That break clapping he's doing, means he's agitated. Actually, I think this might be a she. Males are very small. Because they are tiny, cute and fuzzy, it seems to invite petting, but it's still a wild bird.

Jeannie yes, this owl is certainly confused and scared, and you’re right about the beak clicking. I was making more of a general comment, not just about this video here. Overall, owls seem to cope with the stresses of human care pretty well.

@@jeannie1renee2 Well I have a screech owl who roosts with my chickens at night (lol) and the first time I saw him I thought he was hurt because he didn't move when I walked up to him. I was alarmed for my chickens at first until I thought it through (he could kill them if he was super bold but he would get killed by the rooster in the process and I doubt he even wants to), I thought maybe he got trapped in the run. I pet him to feel him out before trying to lift him, he just sat there. Only when I tried to lift him did he casually fly to another spot in the run before flying through the mesh. So he wasn't trapped and could have flown away. I approached very slowly giving him ample time to do so.

The clicking noises aren't always an aggressive sign. When they are excited then will beak click. This can be excitement over food or just happy to see you. This can also be a way to say stay back - so know it isn't always a negative noise. Glad to see you got him some help. Certainly a cutie pie.

I love owls, they show some expression & where-as most birds of prey are getting rarer due to humanity, most owls actually owe their survival to man, it's fair to say that Owls & Humans have had a very long alliance with each other. We give them barns to roost & fields to hunt & in return, they control the rodent population. No surprise that they've been dubbed Cats with wings

I love the big eye stare. It took me a couple of days before I could handle my little ground owl, they be small and look wicked. He was a trip, he loved to eat pinky mice, little meat balls and the occasional lizard.

He seems to finish eating whenever you touch the Owls head. I think for a full grown wild owl that you seem to calm him down doing this , great video and super cute little hoot!

Just watched this video! Someone asked if this was a western or eastern screech owl. That would be so interesting to know since I'm new to the screech owl! Apparently the two kinds make different noises too! Awesome! Thank you for taking care of this little guy until the Wildlife authorities come! What a beautiful color he/she is!

Clicking from an owl indicates fear. When they are scared by someone, they make loud short clicks with their beaks to scare them away.

For being a full-grown wild owl, Hoot here is surprisingly chill. A lot of the time a previously-wild owl would've taken off the finger of a human trying touch them! You're lucky you ended up with a calm owl!

He was small and when I first saw him I thought he was a burrowing owl. That is pretty a pretty small owl to be fully grown. He is adorable though.

He’s snapping his beak….that’s what the clicking noises are. Owls do this when they are frightened or annoyed. Little Hoot probably accidentally crashed into a window, or even worse, hit by a car. But he’s eating….so he’s on his way to recovery!
