Listen carefully to the jingle for the variants from 2:26-3:10. Doesn’t that sound like musical pouring? I think that’s supposed to be a reference to when Columbia Pictures was a unit of the Coca-Cola company as usually noted in those variants.

A then-rare color special of "Hazel" from the first season titled "What Will We Watch Tonight?", in which George buys a color TV for the family. At the time, "Hazel" was still in black & white, but NBC wanted to demonstrate an episode of "Hazel" in living color for the novelty. Screen Gems didn't want to pay for a color episode at the time, so RCA Victor, who was NBC's then-parent company did the honors. Nearly two years later beginning with Season 3, Screen Gems decided to feature "Hazel" in full living color, and NBC was delighted to air it that way. The next 3 seasons of "Hazel" were in color since , including their move from NBC to CBS in 1965, a whole revamping of the main cast (except for Shirley Booth & Bobby Buntrock , who stayed in the cast), and the change of Screen Gems logos from dancing sticks to The "S From Hell" (except for Canada, who showed the dancing sticks logo until September 1966.)
@susanfit479 жыл бұрын
Not so weird, and not an isolated incident. The Family Channel (now ABC Family) aired the movie Annie (1982) several years ago and logos were as follows: 1. CPT purple/gold Torch Lady logo 1991 (no byline) 2. Columbia Torch Lady logo 1981 w/the film's opening music 3. CPT Distribution logo 1993 at the end, with film's closing music over it. So it seems that the Columbia TV logo has affixed itself to the beginnings of films in the past. When Comedy Central aired the movie Stripes (1981) a few years back, and saw CPT 1988 at the beginning, rather than the 1981 Columbia Torch Lady logo!

The Screen Gems "dancing sticks" logo scares me the most, the sticks, sparks, bombastic music, and the stern announcer.
@robertorick63832 жыл бұрын
@@tracyperry3595 The bombastic jingle is by Frank DeVol. The stern announcing is by Colin Male. The "Route 66" dancing sticks announcing mentioning Herbert B. Leonard as executive producer is by Hal Gibney In 2022, I found out that Hanna & Barbera did animate the dancing sticks logo on the request from Columbia Pictures boss Abe Schneider on August-September 1963. So my original statement that H-B didn't have anything to do with the dancing sticks was incorrect. CLG Closing Logo Group's Wiki had stated H-B's involvement in late 2022. I have recently corrected that gaffe. The "S From Hell" on the other hand is designed by Tom Geismar for Geismar/Chermayeff design corporation.

@@robertorick6383 You and I agree 100% on both of the Screen Gems dancing sticks and the S logo, Today, the dancing sticks logo is one of my all time favorite logos, But, when I se a little boy, I had nightmares of the dancing sticks logo, from imagination tv programs, especially if Ise in a dark room at night. I remember the logo from Bewitched, The Farmers Daughter, The Flintstones, and Jonny Quest. There were throughout the years some great tv shows by Screen Gems.
@robertorick63832 жыл бұрын
@@tracyperry3595 It would be hard to believe, because many people haven't seen them in years , but Soupy Sales TV show from WNEW Channel 5 had the dancing sticks as well from October 1964-September 12, 1965. Many of those episodes have been wiped by WNEW for Soupy's "little green pieces of paper" prank, but at least one collector on KZfaq has resurrected the dancing sticks logo on at least one August 1965 episode put up for prosperity. All of the other B&W Soupy episodes are from 1965-1967 and contain a still version of The "S From Hell". Another blogger has told me that he remembers seeing the dancing sticks at the end of "The Jetsons", but that would have been the CBS reruns from 1964-1970, and I haven't seen them since as a kid, but I do think I've seen the "S From Hell" ending a couple of Jetsons episodes as early as 1971. By 1984, they have all been chopped off by the syndicated stations. If you lived in Canada from 1965-66, you would have seen the dancing sticks close out shows such as "Gidget", "I Dream Of Jeannie", "Camp Runamuck", and "The Wackiest Ship In The Army", as Canada was the last country/providence to contain the dancing sticks for one more year while the rest of the world switched to the "S From Hell" logo. As for the Columbia/CPT logos, I like the "Beakman's World" variant, with it's flying rocket around Torch Lady's head the best. It's cute.
@robertorick63832 жыл бұрын
I am now nearly 54 years, and have seen the Screen Gems Logos (Torch Lady, dancing sticks, "S From Hell", & the CPT Pretzel) since I was a baby growing up with my Mom & Dad watching TV. I liked a lot of the early Hanna & Barbera cartoons from 1957-1966, and those logos were shown in various forms at the end of the credits up until the 1980's when first Worldvision , then Turner Productions took over the distribution. Today, Warner Brothers owns the old H-B cartoons (thanks to Ted Turner's selling off of Time-Warner), and somehow, seeing the W-B shield at the end of The Flintstones isn't quite the same as the old dancing sticks or "S From Hell" logos. The W-B shield is perfect for "Looney Tunes" and their many spin-off shows, but somehow seem awkward at the end of a H-B rerun.

I don't quite remember "The Jetsons" or "Top Cat" having the logo, but a couple of bloggers said that on 1963-1966 airings in Canada, the logo was attached to the credits at the end. A blogger named "Classic Sonic's TV & Radio Vault" recently put up a partial credit ending of "Quick Draw McGraw" with the dancing sticks logo pasted on. This was from a 1964 airing. He probably bought the filmstrip on E-Bay. Canada was the last continent/providence to have the dancing sticks logo, finally retiring the logo in September 1966. They had the logo for an additional year while the US used the then new "S From Hell" logo. The TV special "Alice In Wonderland (Or What's A Nice Kid Like You Doing In A Place Like This") had the dancing sticks closing on Canadian airings. The US airing had the "S From Hell" logo. I wonder how long Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures was around
@syxepop10 жыл бұрын
Well, AFAIK, Screen Gems started in the mid '50s as Columbia Pictures exclusive TV subsidiary (in those days few Hollywood studios, besides Warner Brothers, wanted their names attached to TV, so they got another name for the TV production division). It stayed that name until the early "80s, when CPT (SPTV in the late '90s/early '00s, Sony still used the CPT name for quite a while after the purchase in '89...) was began to be used. Nowadays Screen Gems (logo is the "S Of Doom") is only used (from about the mid '00s) as the low-budget/independent film distribution/financing division of Sony Pictures... It was strange that Sony didn't use the Screen Gems music theme from the mid '60s (ta-ta-tara-ta-ta-ta...) at the end of PanAm ('12), which was framed in the early/mid '60s, even if they still used the current SPTV logo.
