Scriabin knew that music was the highest artform that us humans could aspire to participate in. He also acknowledged that ecstasy is our most highly evolved human emotion. Combining these two obvious factors was Scriabin's gift to humanity. That other composers, and musicians in general, did not follow in his footsteps amazes and puzzles me to no end. I stumbled on a vinyl recording of his Poem of Ecstasy in a local library when I was 15 years old in 1965. I took it home only because I liked the album cover. Little did I know how after all these years, now that I'm 73, I would never get sick of hearing it, and I must listen to it at least once or twice a year. The powerful long-lasting climax at the end cannot be compared to any musical composition in existence!
