I am dyslexic and I am proud of it.
I know that my parents were somewhat disappointed in me, just like myself. My parents and I then thought that it might have been easier for me to get into arts and music since I always had a little talent in those areas.
That changed everything, making the first turning point of my life. I fell in love with drawing, illustration and everything that has to do with arts. Everything I achieved was effortless and I started to see where my life was heading. My passion eventually brought along many successes in the recent years, which got my creative director to decide that I was the one he wanted to work with, on the first dyslexia campaign 3 years ago.
When my creative director briefed me on the job, he showed me a video of how the letters blink and move when a dyslexic reads them. I was shocked, stunned and speechless. At that moment, I found out that I was a dyslexic too! The learning disability I had experienced wasn’t normal to everyone, majority of the people don’t see letters jumping, moving or blinking when they read. I was absolutely taken aback; I did not know what to feel. Then came the second turning point in my life.
I started working on many dyslexia campaigns, to reach our target audience and educating them about dyslexia-that it’s not a curse, but a blessing in disguise. I believe that successful awareness campaigns will help change many children’s lives, which will guide them to the better and brighter side of being dyslexic.
I was looking for something that screams simplicity, which I intended to balance out with some complex crafting. I started off by scribbling on my sketchbook, trying to find a direction. And over time, I discovered something in those scribbles - potential. I knew that it would be a challenge for me to scribble out and capture the souls and characters of those people in the portraits. For that reason, I was determined to make a breakthrough by bringing my crafting skills to a whole new level. So I started doing scribble art.
Finally, I hope that parents who have kids with the dyslexic’s symptoms, will give their children a chance to discover their talent. And fellow dyslexics, if you’re still feeling lost, know that there’s something special within you, and all you need to do is to discover it, and believe in yourself. I sincerely hope to see the brilliance in each and every one of you.
