I bumped in to him in a quiet cheap dusty pub in a back ally in London ine morning and had a chat and laugh with him and he gave me some good advise many years ago. I d recently lost my job and gf was drowning my sorrows and hung out with him and played pool .What a lovely genuine bloke a real diamond in the rough and a talented legend god bless him he took no BS and was a real inspiration for me and I followed him ever since .PS not in a creepy way .

Rock the casbah was almost entirely written, and recorded by Topper Headon - who was the drummer in The Clash. He stayed late in the studio one night and created the whole instrumental track based around a piano tune he’d created .. by morning it just needed lyrics. Although I do think Norman Watt Roy is an amazing bassist

All hail the mighty Norman Watt Roy, who is the bass player here, this is a TOUGH bassline if there ever was one. And he makes it look and sound easy, which is a big hint at just how difficult it really is. This song was later sampled by another monster bass player: Bootsy Collins on his song "Do that freak"

Ian Dury caught polio as a youngster in the 1949 Polio pandemic which is why he has a strange physique. In life he promoted the vaccination of children which he was unlucky not to have been old enough to have received the Polio Vaccine.

His son Baxter Dury is one of the more underrated singer songwriters of the past 20 years. Similar voice, though his music is not the kind of wacky pub disco his dad did. Check out Isabel or Leak at the Disco by Baxter Dury
