In this episode I'm fitting the decor end panels to all the base and wall units so there is a need to scribe them to the wall. I'm using my trend easy scribe tool to do it so I'll go through the process I use to get the best results

Expensive for the trend scribe tool but worth its weight in gold. Bought one 2 years ago and use it daily. Amazing tuturial for anyone struggling with scribes👌

Hi Paul thanks for taking the time to comment on our channel. I’m glad you got something from this video but remember mate nobody is perfect and even though you count yourself as a ‘handyman’ if you enjoy your work and can look at it afterwards and be proud of it that’s all that counts. The more you do something the better you get. 👍🏻

Thanks for your video, I have been looking for videos on scribbling the side panels. I knew there had to be a simpler way. And your the first person who made sense and I was able to truly understand. You do great work I look forward to learning from you

Thank you for commenting Dylan. The whole reason why we started the channel was to show people what we do and how we do it even though we do say very often it isn’t the only or best way it is just how we do it. The team are big KZfaq watchers and we benefit so much from hints and tips and also seeing that one tool that helps do the job better, easier and safer so we thought we’d have a go at it and thankfully because of people like you we are achieving it now. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year

Hi Darren and thank you for taking the time to comment on our channel and for leaving such a positive comment. I have been using the same kitchen company now for a long time and yes there might be a little something that gets forgotten but they always drop it out to me within a day or so of phoning them. The last kitchen I did was supplied by the customer from Howdens and what you described is exactly what I had to do. Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍🏻

Another good one. The way I remember cornice and pelmet is cornice at the top like coving and pelmet is really called lighting pelmet and lights go under the cabinets. 👍

When I design kitchens one detail that I like to incorporate is to set the base units 150mm off the wall and this has a number of benefits: 1) It allows room for services gas, water, electric, drainage with plenty of space for them to bypass each other. 2) A standard 600mm worktop is set on the base units and then a 250mm deep worktop is set on top to close the gap and create a raised area that is perfect for storing the plethora of kitchen gadgets we all have- kettles, mixers, toasters etc up off the main worktop and out of the mess that usually ensues during food preparation. The 500mm working top that is left is comfortable to use as it is clear of the clutter that most kitchen worktops have to accommodate. 3) Any overhead cupboards are fixed to the wall that then sets them back from the front edge of the worktop, which means that they are not immediately 'in you face' restricting comfortable worktop use. The cupboards are still within easy reach. The loss of 150mm of general floor space is mostly unnoticed except in the tightest of kitchens. One of the things that I find most disappointing in modern kitchen designs by the big outlets is that style takes priority over cooking, with too many kitchens being highly inefficient in their layout. The current desire for large kitchens often shows how poor the understanding is of kitchen design, just talk to real cooks and chefs about kitchen design to get what a kitchen should be, nothing should be more than one pace away from anything else is one guiding principle and the triangle of store/prep/cook is another.

Thanks for such an in depth opinion we appreciate your time. Although I agree with the statement and understand the efficiency triangle approach in the design process the ultimate failure is always the customer not wanting any of that despite all the onsite conversations and the acceptance of the fitters professional opinion. 🤷 thanks 👍🏻

@@mrabuilders6723 I was involved in the refurbishment of a very large 6 bedroom house within a gated community. My client owned the house and previously let it out to the Financial Director of Shell Oil so you can gauge its standard. The kitchen/family room was 8m x 9m with the kitchen taking 50% of the space. The tenant had by all accounts refitted the kitchen and clearly spent a great deal of money on serious quality kitchen fitments. The layout included a huge island unit that was just a massive work top that you couldn't reach the middle of and one long wall had two huge built in fridges/freezers and two oven units next to each other, with two microwaves, the hob was on the other side of the room along with a built in coffee machine. I would expect that the family employed a cook who must have been the fittest person in the house given the amount of walking they had to do. Imagine cooking at the hob unit and walking nearly 8m around an island unit just to see what;s happening in the oven??? Fortunately the refurbished kitchen was more sensible having been designed by the kitchen fitter to the Royal Household and specified by the clients wife, who was a good cook.

Is it an idea to cut the pelmet and corness and fit before the end panels?
@richardgilbert8682
@richardgilbert8682 11 ай бұрын
just the info i have been looking for as i have got four to fit next week thankyou only query i would like to know is two of my tall panels are as yours on the end of a run but the other two are butted up to base cabinets so would you cut a square notch at floor level so the plinth will continue to the end of the run or run the whole panel down to floor so seperate plinth on unit hope you understand what i mean cheers
@mrabuilders6723
@mrabuilders6723 11 ай бұрын
That’s a preference thing. It’s entirely up to you. I don’t mind having a break in the plinth by the running the end panels down to the floor especially if the tall cupboards are in the middle of the run of units. The reason why I like it is because I prefer it to joining plinths. Good luck with your project

I like the idea of scribing but haven't the balls to let my cheapo jigsaw loose on a £150 decor end panel. I've seen people using electric planes and sanders but I'm still not confident enough in my abilities to not screw it up! Anyhow nice video mate 👍

Hi Gary and thanks for commenting. I normally use a track saw but the existing wall was that bad to scribe there wasn’t enough straight lines to work to. You may want to try a downward cutting blade in your jigsaw they are easier to handle if your not confident enough to do like I did. I hadn’t got any at the time and couldn’t be bothered to fetch one 😁👍🏻

@@mrabuilders6723 Thanks for replying 👍 I do have a downward-cutting blade but find it can kick back with some force so needs quite a heavy hand - ie the opposite to what you want when you're trying to follow a precise line. I'll try it with an offcut and report back 😀

How long did that kitchen take you to fit, what brand is it?
@mrabuilders6723
@mrabuilders6723 Жыл бұрын
Hi Harvey. I think it was about 5 days on my own. It’s a company called Chase Bedrooms and kitchens based in Brownhills Walsall. Been using them for years cos they are as good as any other well known company They make all their own cabinets so can match any colour carcass to doors or whatever combination you want and because it’s bespoke they can do things like the washer/ dryer carcass. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

When you need to scribe the end panel to the floor and the wall which should you do first ? Floor or wall ?
@mrabuilders6723
@mrabuilders6723 Жыл бұрын
Hi John and thanks for the comment. I cut my panel to the floor first to get correct height. The panels generally have banded edges so where possible put that to the floor so it protects the edge from any possible moisture exposure. Hope this helps but if you need to know anymore feel free to send another comment and I’ll happily help you out if I can 👍🏻
