Watch live coverage as a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket launches Boeing's Starliner capsule on a crucial test flight with NASA astronauts onboard for the very first time. Liftoff from pad 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is scheduled for 10:34 p.m. EDT (0234 UTC) on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Aboard for the Crew Flight Test (CFT) mission are commander Barry "Butch" Wilmore and pilot Sunita Williams. If all goes according to plan, the Starliner capsule will dock to the International Space Station on May 8.
Commentary will be provided by Spaceflight Now's Will Robinson-Smith.

Those astronauts are very brave, indeed! Imagine, willingly getting into a Boeing spacecraft: "Now the main hatch, does it take 4 bolts, or 6? Oh well."

NASA, Boeing, and United Launch Alliance scrubbed the launch opportunity on Monday, May 6 for the agency’s Boeing Crew Flight Test to the International Space Station due to a faulty oxygen relief valve observation on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket Centaur second stage. NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams exited the Starliner spacecraft at Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida and will return to astronaut crew quarters.

Amazing how close NASA and Boeing are in achieving space flight like SpaceX. It's about time we get more rockets than just the Falcon taking humans to space.

It's times like this that you appreciate how great an achievement SpaceX had made. I get the idea that we need competition, but Boeing is really messing this up. They should look at other newer companies and give them a chance. Although... was the issue with the rocket or starliner?

And you aren’t a fan boy for noticing this surprisingly…It’s kinda scary to think this is literally the “best” NASA would have if somehow the narrative and government took out Elon’s image and SpaceX. Everything from the suits, cameras, and look of everything is so far from SpaceX.

I think what NASA accomplished was great in its time, but it's become so bureaucratic now it can't blaze a trail anymore. It is basically stuck in the 1990s, still unwilling to take any chances or think laterally, constrained by budgets and old ties to corrupt corporations like Boeing, and stunted by leadership that promotes conformity and punishes ingenuity.
