The band used to be featured last. That changed either in Mr. Ellis last year or shortly after he departed. It just looks weird not seeing them featured at the end of the homecoming like they were in the past.

To me the goats are the sergeant era!

To me, both eras were great. Mr. Sargeant left a rich legacy after his tenure and Mr. Ellis built upon during his tenure. No need for separation - both eras still equals the Marching 101.

@@rakwonsellers1107 First, when you say yall, please don't include me. Second, I am a not a band alum, however, I am an SCSU alum who happens to love and try to support my school's band when I can. I grew up on the Marching 101 during the Sarjeant era since I was a little kid watching the band before I became a SCSU Bulldog alum. Yes more 101 alums could probably do a little more, but don't slight the ones who are supporting the band because seeing comments like yours may make them reconsider. Many alums who marched during the Ellis era are likely still salty (even to this day) about how the administration blindsided Mr. Ellis and forced his departure which is the reason many of his band students at that time quit the band when they found what happened to him. Since then, the director's spot seems to have become a revolving door after his departure. Had the administration not done that, I believe the band program would still have some semblance of the strength it seemed to have during the Ellis era when the 101 had the numbers we used to see with the 2007-2014 editions of the band. While the 2014 band was the smallest 101 band Mr. Ellis directed during that timespan mentioned, it was still a decent size and great sounding band. Hopefully the current band director can do what's needed to get the numbers back up to at least the size of the 2014 band. Likewise, I hope he will remain long enough to make his mark on adding to the legacy built by the great band directors who preceded him. In that regard, the administration could also do more IF IT REALLY WANTED TO. They have money for what they want to have money for. I have had this argument before with others. The administration and foundation found money to give James Clark a raise he didn't earn or even deserved in midst of the financial challenges the school face at the time he receive the increase. Likewise, there are other employees on campus who received promotions/pay increases in positions because of who they know rather than what they know. Now, with everyone dealing with COVID-19, there is no certainty with anything these days including band funding. I work at a state agency so I know. From what I've heard from a source close to the band, the administration is still trying to decrease what little funding the band still gets. Further, there have been rumblings in some Bulldog circles that Clark is of the opinion that SCSU doesn't even need a band and that certainly didn't sit well with folks. The Marching 101, in my mind, is one of the most effective recruiting tools at SCSU that could help increase overall enrollment, if only the administration used the band in that way or even cares such as schools like JSU, SU, BCU, FAMU, Talladega, and hell even Benedict (because their numbers have gone up since the arrival of their new president because she care about overall enrollment). The Marching 101 is practically free marketing for SCSU, but again, the band is not used in that manner. I believe if Clark had his way, there would be no Marching 101. There again, I stand by my previous sentiment whether you marched during Sarjeant era or the Ellis era, the fact remains that there is still only one Marching 101. Now is not the time to be a band divided and my thoughts on that fact simply won't change.

101 seem to be much smaller this year.

Drum majors just don't seem to be up to usual standards.

@@FancySeeingYouHere your point is? Should there be a historically white college and university or Hispanic or asian? If someone of a different race applies, do they get the same opportunity?

@@ChaoticBean794 so to educate you. HBCUs were founded by churches and/or some very nice white people for freed slaves so that we too could learn. Theses School won't turn away white students. In fact they're more than likely to receive a scholarship for wanting to attend the school. And yes there are Historically White schools....every other school. Yales, Standford, UNC, UT, GT, UGA,etc. Why don't you take that comment to one of their videos.

@@ChaoticBean794 Most of the colleges and universities in this country are PWI - Predominantly White institutions. The was a time not too long ago in this country's history that blacks were not allowed to go these institutions hence the reason that Historically Black Colleges and Universities were created. I hope that what 1234U posted and this post clears up any confusion you may have about HBCUs.
