That look Levy gets on his face after he says "I hope we don't run into any force field!" is the funniest part of this whole clip. I've laughed at that for decades.

Idella Voudry. Lol. I don't think the lady who played her was an SCTV regular, but she was hilarious as Idella.

Eugene Levy as Ernest Borgnine. The funniest thing in the world.

Levy and Short are masters of impersonation. Levy’s even got Borgnine’s side-to-side waddle down pat.

SCTV really slammed 2001. I actually enjoy this parody more than the actual film. I get a kick out of how the Monolith has legs & walks. It acts like a monster from one of the Haunted Houses episodes of The 3 Stooges - scaring & chasing everyone 20:11

Not only a spoof of 2001 and QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE, but someone who worked on this must have also seen WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET: The crash is a pretty close "reenactment" of the miniature ship crash in that film (it's on YT/worth a laugh, especially that crash scene).
@taylormaddux84332 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the background info. I wondered if they might be doing "Cat Women on the Moon" (if I have that title right), but I'll look for "Women of the Prehistoric Planet."
@RSEFX2 жыл бұрын
@@taylormaddux8433 That film is full of fun due to low budget, lack of top people behind the scenes, etc etc. (The crash in the SCTV spoof also cribs a bit from the crash scene in an otherwise fairly decent SF film called WORLD WITHOUT END, also low-ish budget, but at least with good actors and not-bad script. I knew some of the people who made these films originally, so sometimes hard to totally dismiss their efforts, tho with CAT-WOMEN and WOMEN OF PREHISTORIC PLANET it's hard NOT to shake ones head in disbelief!)

2009...I love how they do impressions of people NOBODY would bother with. Simon and Garfunkel. The best is Earnest Borgnine. And the make up just kills it.

This wasn't so much a parody of 2001 as it was of 2010: The Year We Make Contact which was out in theatres at the time so of course it was ripe for parody in classic SCTV form.

@@Muddyrich Yeah, but there were times where you can tell the show was on its last legs. The Cinemax episodes were kinda bad, but it was more like "In Living Color in its fifth season" bad, not "SNL when a good cast member leaves" bad, and definitely not "MADtv in 2016" bad.
