On today's episode, we leave the lush green mountainous rainforest to head back to the island of Bali. We are now starting our journey around the island's northern part, starting in Pemuteran, which we LOVED!
Our resort was terrific. We had our own private pool, and our villa looked out towards the beach. There weren't many people there, and it almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
We enjoyed the pool and walking around the town on the first day. We also scheduled our first dive in Indonesia with the dive shop at the resort.
One of the main reasons we decided to come to Indonesia is its reputation for having the world's best diving. So my expectations were high.
The boat ride was less than five minutes from the shore, and we hopped right in the water. At first, I wasn't too impressed. It looked a lot like everywhere else we have gone. But then we saw a shark! This was our very first shark, and I had a hard time holding in my excitement.
I honestly thought I would be afraid the first time I saw a shark, but I wasn't, maybe because this shark was sticking to his little reef and not swimming near us.
As we continued to swim, the coral kept impressing us. It was vibrant, lively, and very healthy.
Joel and I had issues with our mouthpieces and goggles, which is never fun when trying to enjoy a dive. Unfortunately, it was such a problem that we didn't dive with them again. We were also a bit concerned that the dive master we dove with didn't have a dive watch and kept relying on Joel's watch for information. What would have happened if there had been an actual incident? Was he qualified to help us? We haven't been diving long but prefer to dive with a local dive master for our comfort and safety.
Nevertheless, I was very impressed with the underwater life.
We then spent the rest of the day enjoying our pool, walking the town, and eating great food!
