This tune was first done by Chuck at Albert Hall/London in 72 and was banned almost forever in USA. Origional version is about same time. So great - R&R forever

Saw him once on stage singing "reeling & rockin'" & it was far more...explicit! ( great concert btw, around 1978).

I saw the " explicit" version in Nice ,France, 1978, & a dozen of young americans were in the audience. Chuck obviously sang for them, and they were half dead laughing. Despite my bad english, i could understand what it was all about & enjoyed. This night , Chuck was in his good days(...)and we had a fantastic concert, a Toronto-like. At the end of the concert i heard " chicken shack", opening tune for Muddy Waters, on another stage of this festival. Muddy & the men did a hell of a set. Chuck was supposed to play with them, and they liked that. But Chuck didn t show up,alas. Anyway, Chuck first part of a Muddy Waters concert, believe me, it was like the very best I could dream about. And for the american tourists, it was historical as you said the song was banned, in this particulr version.

I WAS PROMPTED TO SEARCH FOR A VIDEO-CLIP OF THIS SONG because on the evening I am typing this "comment", it is 40 years to-the-day since I saw Chuck Berry and his daughter Ingrid play a concert at a large pavilion at the Six Flags Over Georgia theme-park located outside of Atlanta. That was May 2nd of 1975 -, and the concert was during the occasion of my "Senior Class trip" near the end of my "Senior year" in high-school. I recall that the bass-guitar player was apparently the same guy that is in this video, since I remember that he was playing a (relatively uncommon) Les Paul "Recording" Bass (... as he is in this video-clip). However -, judging from Ingrid's attire -, this TV appearance is probably from a little later during the mid-70s-to-early-80s "Disco era". ~ Finally, may I say I've been saddened in recent years to have seen the reports of the deaths of numerous "Rock stars" from my teen years during the1970s; and I am gladdened to think that as-of-this-writing, Chuck Berry is still-alive-and-well -, despite that he is actually a 1950s-era Rock & Roll star, (at-this-time) aged 88.

+charliebe28 That is the same bass player Jim Marsala who has played with Chuck since the early 70s. When Chuck went on the road sometimes he would take Jim with him as his music director and then hire local musicians in each city to fill out the band. Jim also played guitar in his own St. Louis, MO. group and I played bass with that group and also with Billy Peek's band and we backed up Chuck and also Johnny Johnson on several gigs in St. Louis.

CHARLIEBE28 It is sad and a bummer when great rock stars are lost. On the other way to see it is Chuck will be honored and remembered for as long as we can imagine. He is an originator of Rock and Roll and all the Rock, Punk, Metal of different versions owe Chuck honor and thanks. ITS ALL ROCK AND ROLL. I do understand some emotion of their loss not many years ago I was taken to a Motorhead show with backstage. After the show in a drab backstage room Lemmy said there must be something going around here better than this to the 10-12 of us with no responses I said there is a good bar near that is large has good drinks pool tables decent to good music and the topless girls do not hound everyone for cash but they are hot. Lemmy says "sounds good lets go". Most of us did and Lemmy and I sat at a table. I bought him a Bourbon and got one too. We sat alone talking about different things in life and music for a little over an hour just Him and I. He was just like on stage but friendly with out rock star attitude. We saw things so much alike and he is a good moral man. He liked Chuck a lot and has played with him. When I said he was the first rock I listened too as a kid finding some 45's of my parents I was hooked. I said Chuck is an original and his gift is a huge part of all rock music we have today IMO it is all rock and roll. Lemmy smiled huge and yelled HELL YES that is what I know too and gave me high 5. I think if it is possible he is up there with Chuck and others happy and stoked together. RIP and happy together for them.

Joshua Anderson While I can not say he is not with him being an original rock and roll artist with great talent. I had the chance to meet and talked with for a bit over an hour God. Just God and I talked about life for over an hour. I will never forget that amazing time. Drinking Bourbon with good music and beautiful women around at a topless bar. Just God and I. That God I am talking about is not the almighty God but LEMMY KILMISTER of Motorhead nicknamed God. He to was a big fan of Chuck Berry and we both agreed he blessed us all with many different kinds of rock music. It is all Rock and Roll and Chuck was an or the originator. Huge respect and honor I have for them both!! RIP together

@Gernot Schrader Spot on. I'll never forget seeing my first genuine rocker, Johnny O'Keefe, on Aussie TV, as a kid. Could not believe what l had witnessed. He wrote the song 'Wild Child' that was covered by one of the US rockers - and a guy from the UK. Look him up. Everything you described.
