Thanks for these great tips! I love your style. Informative and very clear. Just curious though, I thought you always needed to use bake and bond or liquid clay to adhere baked to raw or any metal findings? I noticed you didn’t worry about using that. Is it not needed? Thanks again!
@Sculpey_Official
@Sculpey_Official 2 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to use Bake and Bond or any of the liquids if you are adhering to metal jewelry findings such as ear posts or pin bars. You can use silicone glue like E-6000 or Goop to glue baked polymer directly to metal. Likewise, you don’t always need to use liquid clay to adhere unbaked to baked polymer clays, but you can for added security. Each application can be quite unique and through experience you can figure out which way is best. If you are adhering baked liquid clay to unbaked polymer clay, no additional liquid is needed because baked liquid pieces love to stick to unbaked oven bake clays.

Thank you! This is helpful. Quick question-I’ve heard various advice on putting holes into the bead. I’ve been “told” it’s better to bake first . I noticed that you put them in first. Is this just a matter of preference?

hi thank you for the video I have never tried using the clay. can you please explain how the index card doesn't catch on fire when you are baking the clay? thank you
@Sculpey_Official

The oven temperature to bake the clay is very low, lower than baking cookies! It's not hot enough to catch the paper on fire.

I don't like polymer clay as dye comes off and it remains stiff.someone suggested sculpy? Is it softer as my fingers hurt after trying to condition polymer sy so it all went in the bin 🇬🇧

Im new to clay making jewelry. I've been practicing and it seems after i cut it. The clay sticks to the surface and is a little difficult to pickup. Does the clay have to be refrig a bit or im doing something wrong. The clay im using is sculpey III, it was a gift.

It could be that your clay/room is a bit warm. You could try cooling it if you like, or make sure you have a nice smooth surface as well, like glass or tile.

Bad advice to use E6000 on polymer clay it reacts with the clay over time and the stud will come away. It is best to embed the stud

Hello, I just started using polymer clay. I preheated the toaster oven and got it to 275 in advance (I bought a separate thermometer and placed it in oven). I placed my piece on a piece of copy paper with a ceramic tile under it with a foil tent. I baked for the recommended time for Sculpey Premo (275 F). My piece broke when I tried to bend... I tried it for a little longer the second time... it broke again. I then kept it in there for an entire hour.. it STILL broke. I was monitoring the temp the whole time and made sure it stayed in the correct range. Every tutorial I watch says if it breaks, it hasn't cured long enough. I had it in there an entire hour! What am I doing wrong here?

It may depend on what kind of clay you are using. I understand that some of the off-brands are much more brittle when baked. It also may depend on how thick your clay is, and how much you are trying to bend it. I work with Premo, and it maintains some flexibility after baking, but if you really try bending it a lot, it's still going to snap. I've seen demonstrations that leather-effect clay maintains more flexibility after baking, and there are clays that are specifically designed to be flexible, like Sculpey Bake & Bend. So if the project you are doing needs to be flexible, I'd select a clay specifically made for that.

@@DianeGraft hi there. I am using Premo, same as you. To be clear, I don't need my creations to bend. I was only bending to see if they would snap. I am going to be selling these so I don't want them breaking on customers. When attempting to bend, there is zero bend, it just instantly snaps and snaps very easily. I am making little tiki men that are about an inch and a half long, half an inch wide. His feet area is about 1/4 thick but his torso and head are about 3/8 thick. I tried the recommended baking time of about 20 min, then 30, then and hour. I was diligently watching the thermometer inside and it always stayed between 260 to 280.... the oven did fluctuate quote a bit and I had to turn the dial up and down to accommodate the change.
@DianeGraft
@DianeGraft 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kelly-lo6cz At 3/8 inch thick, I would not expect a lot of flexibility. You'd find more of that in thinner pieces. I would definitely bake them for a full hour at that thickness. and then cool them all the way before testing. If they are for jewelry, I'd test wear some of the pieces, to see how they hold up under normal wear and tear. I have not found Premo to be especially fragile, but perhaps you should test Fimo or Cernit to see if they work out better for you.
@Kelly-lo6cz
@Kelly-lo6cz 3 жыл бұрын
@@DianeGraft they will be glued onto a hair flower to add a little extra ornament. Do you think they need to be baked for even longer than an hour? And are they supposed to be able to be broken easily at that thickness? Thanks again
@DianeGraft
@DianeGraft 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kelly-lo6cz Sounds like they won't be getting that much wear and tear for that use. At 3/8" thick, they shouldn't flex or break easily. I'm wearing a piece now that's about 1/8" think, and it doesn't bend at all. (It's also been resined, which probably makes a difference.) The Premo package says to bake 1/2 hour for each quarter-inch thickness, and I'll sometimes double that, so baking for more than an hour should help. But also make sure that your pieces are all the way cool before you test them, because I've found that pieces can be somewhat brittle right out of the oven.
