Futuny used silk and because silk is a natural fibre, the pleats were not permanent and the garment would need to be stored twisted to retain the pleats and would eventually require a complete re-pleating . Miyake's pieces do not lose their shape because he uses polyester, a synthetic fibre and unlike natural fibres, a synthetic fibre's structure can permanently be altered. In this case with heat.

Oh yeah that's true. Fortuny pioneered the idea of the pleating with his delphos dress.

Hi, Just one thing. Fortuny was a spanish designer and he was living in Venice. You can see his work in the Cortume Museum of Madrid (Spain)

Hahaha! This might be one of my fav comments! Honestly, this project epically bombed to the point we edited out the end result. I kept this project in to show I may be an artist, but that doesn't mean I don't fail! You are right, of course trying to create an artwork inspired by Miyake would take way longer. However, my goal is simply to give a quick idea that might inspire you to create. Because the project didn't go as well as I would have hoped, I tried to supplement with more instruction/narration. Thanks for watching!

In the early 1990's, I was fortunate to sew 3 outfits from the Vogue Patterns Designer line. It was an honor, and a joy to even figure out the complexity! I then began wearing his L'eau D'Issey. OMG! I love his work. He is "the king of draping", in my opinion. So hows about you get me a video of your interpretation? I would love to see it!

Wow, that is amazing! What an honor to do that. Do you still work in this field? In order for me to create ANYTHING requiring clothing design, I'm going to need some major schooling and assistance! Ha! Let's just say I walked away from this episode with a huge respect for fashion designers.

Miyake is both an Architect AND a textile innovator and creator. He views garments with a 3D mind, he's immensely intelligent, creative and unique. If you want to try to recreate his visions, start with the out of print Vogue Miyake patterns. If you want to recreate pleats, use a table pleater, they're not that expensive - see MOLLY GODDARD, she has a video showing her fashion techniques (she made the Balenciaga inspired tulle dress for Rhianna).

Why is everyone so negative. He made a quick vid to show something he thought would be helpful. Negative nancys around here. Everyone makes mistakes you all. Geez

Iseey Miyake is a designer, not an artist.
@artrageousnate
@artrageousnate 2 жыл бұрын
Isn't a designer an artist as well? Designers use fabric as their medium, but honestly, most designers I know sketch their work before fabrication.
@themarquis336
@themarquis336 2 жыл бұрын
@@artrageousnate No, a designer is NOT an artist. A designer is a designer. An artist can be capricious, an artist does what she/he wants because she/he wants to do it. An artist does art more for him/herself than for others. Oppositely, a designer CANNOT be capricious, a designer works under constraints, following certain norms of practicality, functionality and the ergonomic needs of bodies; a designer must work around the plastic characteristic, requirements and limitations of the materiales she or he uses to make a product that is FUNCTIONAL, that makes certain tasks easier or at least doable. If a designer’s work is visually stunning but impractical or difficult to use, the work becomes art and is USELESS. Can an designer have great artistic flare or an extraordinary sense of aesthetics the way an artist may have? Of course! And the best designers do, but the best designers also understand and never forget that if a design is pretty but impractical, it’s USELESS. A designer is NOT an artist. There isn’t a soul on Earth that can make me change my mind about that. And so many times (and this video is one of those times) people say designers are artists as a way to ‘dignify’ designers as if they needed to be dignified. Art is NOT better than design, and art does NOT dignify design. If you want to compliment a designer you say “Wow! Your design is every bit as functional as it is beautiful! You’re such a great designer!”. Calling a designer an artist is NOT the compliment you think it is. It’s the opposite.
@artrageousnate

@@themarquis336 well, we will just have to agree to disagree. The arts which include painting all the way to being a designer are subjective. Which is also one of my favorite things!
@themarquis336
@themarquis336 2 жыл бұрын
@@artrageousnate So you have no argument against what I said… And you’re talking about the subjectivity of something that you subjectively consider subjective. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Whether design is an art or not is not subjective. I already laid down the arguments for why design it isn’t art. It’s irrefutable. And saying that a designer is an artist because he sketches… come on, bro 😆 honestly.
