Thanks! If I do another video, I might do the desolation co-op scenario, instead of the second Fenris scenario, just to show off more of what the game has to offer. But anything is possible!

Thanks for the playthrough. By coincidence I bought Scythe (new) and all the expansions (ebay) just 2 weeks ago and played through the whole of the Fenris campaign solo against 1 automa over the course of a (long) weekend. It’s a fantastic campaign and opens up so many different ways to play Scythe.

Well, I didn't push things up to the hardest difficulty, and someone pointed out in another comment that I should have lost morale when I attacked workers sometimes. So I still have a ways to go in my skill-building ;)

If you play with the default board (meaning, not using the modular board), a GREAT help with Automa movement is the app (for Android, at least) called ScytheKick. It does require constant upkeep, in terms of you have to tell the app where your units are when you redeploy them, and you have to use in-app Automa deck instead of the physical cards, because if you do, it will tell you where to move units automatically, you don't have to guess anymore. Now, the app does require a bit of investment in certain amount of $$$ if you want to unlock expansions (such as Airships) etc. but if you are keen on playing solo Scythe and you find Automa rules too daunting, you might try the ScytheKick app. Btw, I'm in no way affiliated with the developer nor paid for this "promotion", I just really like that app :)

Kristijan Sašilo it’s definitely a slick app. I still haven’t used it to model enemy movement, and haven’t ponied up any money, but I might some day!

Thanks for sharing. Have put off getting Scythe for years, but now that I've seen the solo play I may get the game. The Automa looks pretty robust, which is good.

I re-read the automa rules, and a consistent error I made in the second half of the game is that the "neighborhood" checked by moving automa workers only extends 1 hex away. So they would have been settling very close to my units, even after I built the Speed upgrade. Edit - It's not clear in the rules, but another viewer showed me a thread where the automa designer says that automa workers also ignore tunnels when determining neighborhoods. Wow! Those guys just love to put themselves in harm's way :)
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop 4 жыл бұрын
This is a quote from Morten, the automa designer, on BGG: “It's intented only to include the six hexes immediately surrounding the unit. Thus it excludes tunnels, Submerge, etc. There's also an illustration of this, but I should definitely have been clearer in the way I phrased the above sentence. I hope that it's clear, though, that the "movement of one territory" disallows double moves? The design reason for this is that the learning curve and work on the part of the human player is already fairly high and so we tried very hard to streamline the rules and make them as simple as possible to learn and carry out.” So yes, the automa ignores tunnels. But note that he didn’t WANT them to do that, just felt he had to so it would be easier for the player to figure out. So the way I figure it, if you don’t mind the overhead, keep factoring speed and tunnels into movement like I did here :)
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop 4 жыл бұрын
@Dr. D of Astrology I'm not sure we are discussing the same thing... what I'm saying is that the automa doesn't care about YOUR units on a tunnel. In other words, if I have a mech on a tunnel (and thus a mech that could theoretically threaten an automa worker on another tunnel), the automa won't worry about that when identifying valid hexes for its movement. The automa worker could still move onto the tunnel, because it doesn't care about my unit on a tunnel on the other side of the board. It's only looking at my combat units that are directly adjacent to the hex it's considering. Are we on the same page with that?

Also the Automa ignores tunnels and +1 speed. It does not consider that any of your units can move through tunnels when checking neighbourhood. In fact it ignores all mech abilities except Riverwalk. This was clarified by the designer on BGG boardgamegeek.com/thread/1604109/automa-human-player-neighborhood-clarification
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is absolutely not clear from the rules, so glad that Morten clarified. In a way I'm happy to see him say that he would have preferred to have the AI care about speed and tunnel movement, but that they thought it was too much to put on the player. So, in a way, my errors in this video are closer to what he wanted to do with the automa ;)

I believe that Polonia's ability to prevent popularity loss does not apply to undefended workers as no combat is resolved. I don't think it would have changed the result here though. Close game!

Crap, I got part of them wrong! Neighborhood ONLY means what they can reach in 1 move. The automa doesn't care if you have Speed and can rush over to kill them! That would make the game tougher I think. They'd encroach on me more quickly.

You can have every unit you own together, I believe. No stacking limit. The AI follows different rules, however, and can't have more than 1 worker and more than 1 combat unit in the same hex.

What's it like coop with one bot?
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop 4 жыл бұрын
It works pretty well. It can be easier, since you can both take the bot's territory, but since you use the average of your scores, and compare it to the bot's single score, you need to work to make sure you are both doing well. If you don't mind running two automa (which requires buying another automa deck, or using the free app for one of them), then you can make it a 2v2 grudge match! :)
