I held off on updating to Big Sur. Finally did it in April 2021 and this bug/issue has still not been solved. Just troubleshot for 1 hour before I found your video. Thanks for the info!

Hah! I just realized my Macbook Pro 2015 has a card reader... I was trying to use a USB mount with the card reader in it and it wasn't working. Now using the SD card slot in my computer.. duh.

I totally freaked out this morning thinking I’d gone made or worse my camera had failed. I tried multiple different ways of reading the sd card and couldn’t understand why when I pulled it out of the reader because it wasn’t there I was getting disk not ejected properly messages. I put the disk into my old no Big Sur Mac and the data was all there - phew. Back to the Big Sur Mac I tried one more time and this time selected the Mac itself and there it was clearly showing / totally bizarre! Not showing as a connected drive but showing under the OS disc’s window. Good to know I’m not mad after all / thanks 🙏!!

Ok, I can open the microsd card now, but the jpgs are only visible on the image capture and not in a folder I copied them either in Pictures or in downloads. The computer does not read the files

I have just bought two new Sandisk 128GB SD cards and I'm having this problem - however, when I follow your steps and go to Disk Utility I'm not getting the option to rename it - only to Run First Aid, Restore, Initialise or eject it. The camera is showing the images so the card is fine but I just cannot transfer them to the Mac. PS Both cards are brand new and formatted on the camera as usual and the card reader sees other older cards.

My new cards are SDHC not XC. Also exfat is grayed out in g-parted. They still work on Super lucid 2. I guess I'll have to use that for uploading photos.

I do not have that problem. Updated my MacBook Pro (Late 2013) to Big Sur and the SD Card is recognised without any problems..

i have the same SD card and my mac wont let change the name , when I right click the options are " Get Info, Run First Aid, Eject, Imagine from SD Card, Restore, Partition, Erase"

Rename is greyed out for me. However, in the upper right corner, there is the Mount command. Clicking Mount then mounts "NO NAME" (in my case).

Fun Fact: although the card does not show up in the sidebar of Finder, it does show up in list, icon and columns view. Just click on one of your external drives in the side bar (no double click) and you should be able to see the SD Card labeled "untitled" among all your external drives. Saves you the time for renaming and rebooting the card. Hope this helps!

The Disk Utility does not list "External Devices" when I bring it up. Just Internal. I'm still loss. I did plug in a "Thumb Drive" and it reads it. The External list did pop up, but only reading the thumb drive..

I just connected XH2 Fuji with CFExpress card inside of Prograde to M1 Macbook pro -> on Fuji i see USB , but on my not visible at all ..have you struggle into this issue maybe ?

I had the same symptom except that the drive did not show up in diskutil either. I am using a usb sdcard reader plugged into my macbook pro. I had to unplug the reader and plug it back in, and now both finder and diskutil show the drive as mounted.

I transferred my SD card photos to SSD card through Mac air and formatted SD card in XT4 camera. Then I remembered to exit I my camera and again I brought back all my photos from SSD to SD card and put I to my XT4 camera for editing.Now my camera displaying No IMAGE in the card. Followed the instructions and my micro SD card does not show up in the disk utility. No unnamed disk, nothing. My two external hard drives I use are there and that is it. Any other ideas?

What if it does not show up in Disk Utility? My Kingston multi card reader blinks when I insert it but then it stops blinking however the letters are all lit up.

You can rename your SD card from Desktop, no need to open Disk Utility. And the SD card is also visible from your computer name in the Finder sidebar (navigate to your computer name in Locations in the Finder sidebar). The problem is only with SD cards or whatever external device that has been formatted as "Untitled". No fix from Apple so far (even in BS 11.2 persists the problem).

yeah, I saw that once the video went live. I can't believe Apple doesn't bother with a fix. Well, they still haven't bothered with a fix for the Bluetooth problem in M1 so I guess that's just normal now.

Hi, could you please help? I have mac sierra 10.13.2, when i insert the card, it says: "the disk u inserted is not readable by this computer", so it gives option to eject, ignore or initialize. When I initialize, the external disk appears, it's called "generic storage media device" but partition map: not supported, and S.M.A.R.T status: not supported...What can I do? Thank you so much in advance!

Hey Chris! Could you do a video on SD cards can be used in what settings. Eg. UHS-ii for everything, UHS-i for 100mbits in full HD. So that people may know that what kind of cards they may get for their new Fuji cameras. Thanks!
