Summarizing, based on my experience, the choice will depend on the driving profile. 1. Mild Hybrid: suitable if driving mostly on motorways. You do not need to carry extra weight of the battery. The mild is just fine on motorways and small incursions in the city. 2.,Hybrid: suitable if driving 50/50 % in city / motorways. It worths carrying the extra weight of the batteries and the complexity because the reduction of the fuel consumption in the city is substantial. The consumption on the road is similar to the mild hybrid, but the gains in the city can justify the investment. 3. Plug-in Hybrid: suitable if driving mostly in city. Here the big batteries tax the fuel consumption on the motorways, and the tire will suffer because of the extra weight. All complexity will be justified only if the car is driven mostly in the city, where the costs can be well reduced. Here it becomes evident that the pure EV starts competing as a better choice.

Mild ones (MHEV) are nearly no hybrids. The real economy you can see with the full hybrid ones and if you wish to have an electric vehicle and you aren't sure how easy will be in your country to find a charging spot whenever exactly you need it, then the best solution is the plug-in. I love the plug-in and this will be my next car.

I've own a Hyunday Tucson PHEV. It combines two worlds Phev and Hev. When battery reach 18÷15 % of charge it became Hev vehicle. Regenerative breaks works all the time. On the short run 150km per day fuel consumption with full battery is 3.5÷5 l/100 km. On electric mode only range I've achieved 50÷70 km.

For the last 2 - 3 months I was looking to get a PHEV from Skoda but ended up getting a normal petrol engine instead. For me, since I try as much as possible not to use the car in the city, the electic drive, altough seems cool, is a bit of a nonsense. If you want to save on fuel or care about the environment, then use public transport. For other ocasions, like when I go shopping or on a vacation, I want a car that has a lot of space in it and I simply can't stand the idea of hybrids having less space in the trunk because of the batteries. The problem is that nobody talks about this space limitation and many people are buying these cars but have no idea what they are getting into until they start using it

The battery in full hybrid in under the rear seat and doesnt influence the space in trunk/boot... a full hybrid is cheaper than public transport and goes 70-80% full electric in city from a distance. Lets say 10km it goes 7 or 8 full electric and 3 on petrol or hybrid mixt drive. But not at once instead of small cycles of 3km ev 500m petrol 3km ev 500m petrol and so on. Combined ev distance vs petrol distance is 75% ev.

A full hybrid seems to be the best, no need for charging with a cable (besides having ro refuel), and having a smart system where the energy of the car is saved in a battery to be later used again for extra efficiency and performance.

a mild hybrid is a great way to retrofit an existing platform. say you just recently finished a new car platform in 2020 and it still has some time before the replacement platform that supports a full hybrid is ready. well then adding a mild hybrid system is a great way since you don't need much more space to put stuff and can easily make use of modified versions of existing components.

It surprises many people that many hybrids have about the same number, or fewer, mechanical pieces than conventional cars. Not more, Many, if not all, of the devices that are usually driven by a serpentine belt can be replaced with electric versions. These may not have fewer parts, but they tend to be more reliable. Those hybrids with just one motor usually put it in place of the flywheel, and everything else (except there is no alternator) is mostly the same. So the number of parts is quite similar. Those with two motors use them as a "hybrid transmission." Not only does it replace the conventional transmission with far fewer pieces, it also replaces the clutch or torque converter, starter, and alternator. And, while the two motors are very similar devices to the starter and alternator, although bigger, they have fewer pieces.
