The original Ghoulia was the 2011 SDCC exclusive & she sells for up to 2K USD nowadays so I get why they wanted to bring this concept back. I do prefer the original one tho because I think we have to keep in mind that 13 years ago in 2011 this whole concept of Ghoulia going to a convention to get her exclusive action figure & stuff was entirely NEW. There was a ton of creativity & thought put into that doll & even if people prefer the 2024 one visually I think it shouldn’t be ignored that the original one was way more inventive since she invented that entire concept. I think the designers of that particular doll deserve the credit for that & I noticed that a lot of people overlook these things within the community so I feel a bit sad for Garrett Sander. The 2024 Ghoulia is my favorite of the 2022+ SDCC dolls tho because I think she looks somewhat the highest quality & I think her concept is less messy than the Frankie & Draculaura we got because they don’t really go along with neither the Power Ghouls (Frankie) or Freak du Chic (Draculaura) lines in my opinion since they look so different. Overall i‘m not a fan of the 2022 onwards SDCC lineup tho because if you think about it … the dolls are kinda lame when you compare them to the original SDCC dolls? In the past they gave us entirely new concepts and even new characters that aren’t as mass marketable towards children & wouldn’t really survive proper retail and now we just get these recycled concepts with standard basic characters. 😅 I wish they would just give us dolls of characters that never received any like Pharaoh, Gory and so on from the media.

My wallet is thrilled that this was the SDCC release, because it’s a pass for me. I’d love to know what the thought process has been with Mattel and the Monster High team on these doll choices. Collectors want Elissabat. I’d love to see Hexiciah Steam by himself. Or Robecca by herself. Or an actual doll of HooDood. Anything other than the core 5.

I’ve been waiting for a Ghoulia. Don’t need this but I’m excited to see her more in the main line

9:00 There were actually a lot of people that thought they were going to be revamping all the old sdcc sets, the reason being voltageous frankie very clearly being reminiscent of the B&W frankie. This could've meant eventually getting collector Iris, Scarah, Valentine, etc... Personally I'm not ruling out it's alternating between sdcc revamps like voltageous and deadfast ghoulia with dolls like FDC draculaura that give a breath of new life to classic lines.

Giving my 2 cents in terms of having a friendly debate. While I completely understand the excitement of seeing something entirely new like last year's Freak Du Chic Draculaura, I still think it is fun to pay homage to those early, decade-old, releases to give the chance to all of us who were left out to enjoy these back then. When G1 was first released, a lot of us were still either little kids or teenagers with no possibility whatsoever to acquire SDCC-exclusive dolls. I completely missed out on the first third of MH's G1 lifespan because I did not have the resources to start collecting when they first came out, meaning I missed out on all of those iconic releases such as the Signatures, School's Out, Photo Day, etc. It was only with the Creeproductions that I had the taste of what it was to own a Signature MH doll in my hands more than a decade later! With that being said, let's also enjoy homage dolls and what they represent so that all of us who couldn't join the party a decade ago, can finally be part of the club :)

Definitely agree on your points I think they were very clearly made! I absolutely love the doll and the way it looks, honestly this might be one of the few collector dolls I think is actually worth the price point, but I have the same issue, like there are so many characters to use like honey swamp, or viperine, Marisol, Luna, even one of the fusions maybe. I’m getting tired of the using the same core dolls for every release, especially using one that was technically already released.🙁

Good point on the Freak du Chic Draculaura comparison. I see this as a G3 Deadfast Ghoulia. And yes, a re-release of the original would have been fine with me too. Having said THAT, I fell in love with G1 less than a year ago. (Freak du Chic clicked with my Mardi Gras, Circus, Clown, Jester collecting) Now I find myself loving some of the G3's. It's kind of the best of both worlds. AND the Gen 1 crowd has the income to PURCHASE this stuff, so Mattel is kind of damned if they don't, damned if they don't.

I LOVE the collector dolls but I agree that it would be wonderful to have the occasional G3 collector doll. It would be nice if they introduced new G3 characters with a special edition maybe.

I do love her and would like to try to get her… I do agree though with what you said and hope that g3 can get sdcc dolls too especially with all the different body types and inclusion MonsterHigh is doing in this era. I think they are doing it mostly well and would love for these things to be highlighted at sdcc (maybe something like an illustrator or writer that makes comic books that is not a forefront character).

I feel like they did the same thing as they did with voltageous Frankie and I’m not mad about it. I feel like just like with Frankie the two ghoulia dolls look totally different and even if it’s the same concept, they are executed totally different and the comic con Frankie and this new ghoulia definitely feel more high end and well designed. I’m also excited because I’ve always wanted that ghoulia doll for the little action figure and this would be my only chance to get something similar that’s not $1200

I understand where you are coming from about wanting to see an entirely new sdcc doll, but I guess we were wrong in our thoughts about who it would be. As to Ghoulia herself, I don't have a problem with her being a zombie because she is very sweet, smart and loyal to her friends. You don't see her going around doing gorey things, so that's good. I don't like any other zombies though and think they are gross. I'm not sure that I will try to get her for several reasons. 1. I'm really more interested in several other dolls which I know will be coming out soon. 2. It will be a literal blood bath to get her. And 3. I do good enough to deal with Draculaura's bright hot pink when I don't really like bright colors to begin with. I love Draculaura so much, that I just try and overlook her hot pink colors. I bought the SDCC 2024 Ghoulia cause I like the design and she’s the second Ghoulia I have in my collection and I’m not spending the amount of money Resellers want for the OG Ghoulia so 🤷🏻‍♂️. Which I think she looks more like a Leather Biker Ghoulia 🤭 than a Superhéroe theme but that’s just my opinion and it’s not a bad one! I like the doll a lot 🫶🏻. And I totally agree with what you said… In my opinion I would love to see more characters than the same characters that have been using a lot in the past lines. I mean they create a pretty good amount and not to use them and make them shine is crazy 🤷🏻‍♂️. I would love to see a SDCC Torelai, Venus, etc.

On one hand, I think that this design is an improvement on the original. I really like the superhero look on Ghoulia. On the other hand, I still feel like we missed out on a new “collector’s edition” design for another character that hasn’t had one yet. I also feel like Ghoulia should have got a play line doll with a strong design instead. G3 Ghoulia only has 2 dolls so far, and most people that I’ve seen talk about them agree that their designs are mediocre at best. We really need a core refresh Ghoulia instead of a very limited stock collector doll. And don’t worry, I’ve never really connected with Ghoulia either because I’m not into zombies. This is especially ironic for me, given that my favorite character is our mummy girl Cleo. She just always gets super glamorous outfits!

I wasn't allowed to have MH dolls growing up so this release is right up my alley. I bought the G1 Ghoulia and Abbey during the last creeproductions release and it felt like I was getting to experience something I missed out on nearly 15 years ago. People are selling their dead fast Ghoulias for some stacks. One creator admitted to paying $1,200 for her and I'm like okay we lost the plot. This is a good release because it gives new fans and people who missed out a chance to own her at retail price.

Much like the Voltagious Frankie SDCC doll I do really like it, but it's hard to get as excited about redesign dolls that I am just as unable to get as the first launch. I wish it was more like Reel Drama where it felt like giving the normies without thousands of dollars to spend on dolls a chance of getting a version of the old dolls (the fact they fumbled the Reel Drama sales is aside the point).

I get your opinion completely! I do think this doll is cool and if I had the funds I’d get her, but I was also hoping for a new release and not a redo. And I really hope Mattel stops relying on that faux leather material for their doll clothes instead of printed fabric!!!! I like it for accent pieces but here and with welcome committee Frankie, I wish they used a thick printed fabric instead

it’s interesting to see that people are disappointed in them redoing this ghoulia. i didn’t see nearly this much pushback about volatgeous frankie, seeing as that was also a remake of a past doll. i’m a sucker for a redesign so i’m stoked for this doll!

I thought the concept was pretty cool, because in a way it does look like a more mature/older variant of the OG one. Like, if Ghoulia returned as a veteran cosplayer to reprise her most popular costume with the skills she's acquired through the years. Maybe this is me getting to meta, but it was the first impression I got xD I do agree on the nostalgia baiting tho.

Your right. They should have done a reproduction like they did with the original Goulia. However because they didn't (and the original Deadfast is financially out of reach) I'm going to enjoy this one. However ordering on Matel Creations will be a nightmare! I love this new doll. This is one of the rare times I am not complaining about the price point because of how much I liked her, I will buy it because I never got the chance of buying the old one. However, I agree that a new character would've been better. We already have a collector Ghoulia, and even if I am not opposed to repeating characters, I rather have a new one. We don't have a collector Abbey or Venus, there are sooo many options!

Yes! Thank you! Again!!! As soon as I saw her, I thought "Again?!". At least Voltageous Frankie was different enough from her first version. Honestly, this Ghoulia looks nice, but at first glance it looks too similar to what was already at the SDCC years ago. Also, it's really weird that they made another Ghoulia. I would kind off understand if they started remaking other characters from the Power Ghouls collection in a new style. In my opinion, this would be an unoriginal decision (as with the winter dolls, they made Claudine and Drac, you can wait for Cleo or Laguna this year, or Happy Valentine's Day, there was a pair of Cleo and then Drac, next could be Laguna or Rochelle), but this though could be understood. I think remaking one doll from the series per year is boring and sad, but even if so, although I don't understand why they got stuck on this collection of Power Ghouls, why not remake Clawdeen Wolf, Toralei or Spectra. I don't recall any of them being SDCC exclusives, and Toralei never had an exclusive doll at all (if I'm not mistaken). Even with Freak Du Chic, they added a new member to the circus rather than rehashing one of the existing ones. I don't know why I'm so mad at this doll. It looks good in a vacuum. But I'm mad

I'd like to try to buy her, as I collect Ghoulia and will never be able to afford the original Deadfast. However, with the Mattel Creations website it will be very unlikely that I will be able to buy her at all, so I try not to get excited about any release on there. Sadly, much as I am a big fan of Ghoulia, and it should be exciting news to see another collector doll, I don't think fans will get much of a chance.

It seems that this an overall trend for the major toy companies to rehash many of their IPs in similar styles we have seen in years pass or doing the same concept with a different character. Hollywood no longer makes original content because it doesn't make money and the same goes for the toy industry. In the toy industry no need to make new characters because you can reuse molds.

Its a cool doll love my girl Ghoulia don't get me wrong I'm just tired of none of my fav characters getting nothing its always just the original ghouls which I'm sure there's a good reason for but idk. I'm just hoping Jackson & holt make a comeback sometime with a collector, repro, or even getting into G3.

The problem that you aren’t seeing is that the first Dead Fast is very sought out and sells for hundreds if not over 1k. So for many people who wants the first but can’t afford it it’s actually a nice blend of bringing the old with the new and besides even if they were to make a brand new doll/concept you would’ve still complained.. it’s just who you are.. 😅

Honestly, I get what you're saying. But personally, for me I don't think she's that bad. I can see her as her own doll without thinking about the original Deadfast Ghoulia. Regardless of that I do think this was a great remake of the original, plus it has more of my personal themes in it. It could be worse at least it's not like Bratz where they just release nothing but reproductions of old dolls and bring barely anything new to the table.

I won’t take any disparaging opinions or comments on Ghoulia. She will NEVER have as many releases as Frankie, Cleo, Clawdeen or Draculara. And most of us will never be able to afford the original Deadfast despite wanting her. Whether or not ppl will be able to get her because of bots is another story.

G3 ghoulia needed love because both of her dolls are bad so far, this could have been such a good thing for her but nope they want to relive everything. The new one if it was straight black and red it would be so much better. I hate the random colors!!!

Ok, finally ready to get it all out. So I am a big ghoulia fan, and thought the first dead fast was fine. You know just a cute concept and idea but that's it. I do not like this new dead fast. So 1: it's a repeat. 2: the box sucks. For sdcc dolls we've come to expect something cool from the box and last year's DELIVERED. This is just a square box with basic art on it, minimal art inside and a shatter effect. Wooo. This box needed to be an entire comic, it needed to tell a story. As is it's basic bitch. 3: ghoulias outfit is not what dead fast is wearing in the art, meaning it's not an accurate cosplay. I can't tell you how much this irritates me. The point of the first one was to be one to one, and dead fast on the tote needed to be wearing this outfit if they wanted to change the outfit. 4: the glasses. She has such a nice face up...which you cannot see becuz of the glasses. Now in the art you can see ghoulias eyes thru the glasses, but you cannot on the real thing. 5: yet another 75 dollar release where rooted lashes aren't included. Previous sdcc dolls had them. Ghouluxe ghoulia did not becuz she was cheaper and had normal glasses. The curved design of these glasses would have been the chance to create the first ghoulia with rooted lashes. This would have also matched recent sdcc dolls and what we are supposed to get at this price point. Well we didn't get it. Things I like: face, hair, stand. That's it In terms of what I would have wanted: a sweet screams clawdeen type of idea. New dolls of previous lines that never got dolls. I loved the concept and hoped it was the new normal

She's definitely up there with SDCC 2022 Frankie as my favorite MH collector doll ( I just like superhero dolls in general) plus I never had any MH dolls before so thats another reason, only thing is unlike you I hate crimps 😂😂😂
