You actually just inadvertently gave me an idea how to make a velostat-based pressure sensitive pad, by making a DIY PCB with interleaved traces then bridging them with the velostat. I've been experimenting with building sandwiches of velostat, copper and silicone rubber, but this would be way easier to make and still much cheaper than buying pressure pads. Also no need to solder the pads to the board, it would all be integrated.

Great simple idea. Here is my simple tip. Be sure to properly etch the blank pcb. In my first attempt I didn't leave the board in the etch solution for long enough to properly remove the excess copper. I snipped off and tested a small piece of your my pbc material to see the colour of the bare board underneath. Thanks Synth DIY Guy. PS I spent a month in Mexico DF in the late 1980s. Thanks for the demo. I made my own take on this design using copper tape and no capacitor and it works great, but my pitch descends, while your seems to ascend (5:43). Why would this be? Also, I would like to make a similar design for a breadboardless gate/trigger pulse to trigger a Clouds freeze or an ADSR. Would you have any ideas for this? So far, I am able to trigger only one module (Synthesis Technology's Circuit Bent VCO) using the copper tape and no extra voltage other than my body. Thanks for your great work.

I'm impressed! So if I want to put this on an eurorack module, i just need to ignore the battery and use the power supply? Can I make more than one "tactile pad" -lets say four- in the same module? Only thing I would need is to take voltage in parallel for each pad, right? Did you find a potentiometer that gives you a "nice range"? I know it might be limit my possibilities, but maybe replacing the pot for a fixed resistance will make the module more confortable to play.

Hello, complete NOOB here. I’m trying to use this, with a simple NE555 in astable mode circuit, but I don’t know where to connect the speaker. On your top schematic, where the jack goes, you wrote signal, is that signal in, or out? And on the second [smaller] circuit you drew, you wrote out at/on a potentiometer? Please clarify this for me: how would you connect a simple ne555 to this circuit AND a speaker. Thank you kindly

As i read in the comments before, Tomas I think was the one, he asked how about to put 4 all in parallel with the same power source (I'm using 9v), meaning at the end I will have 4 outputs. with 4 pots as voltage dividers. my plan it;s to use those outputs as VC to "disturb" 4 oscillators with a Vactrol (homemade) between the output and the oscillator... it's that correct? i'm building my first diy drone / noise maker and I'm somehow new to the DIY world thank you!!

What actually makes the sound? Is the Taktile plugged into a synth? Or are you using something like Max for Live to control a vst?

Very interesting!....could this idea be applied to create an expression device to control a hardware digital synth using its expression pedal input??.it would work to substitute the potentiometer of an expression pedal by a pcb surface like yours, using the 5volts provided by the expression input of the hardware digital synth? How do you layer solder points like that? Whenever I try to solder a second thing to something that already has a connection, the first thing falls off as soon as the solder heats up!

hey diy guy, great stuff to do! i just made it but with 10 uF cap (was the only available at similar capacitance!).. is this making a big deal? the pressure pad works while set as CV/O. input for Erica Synth VCO but i couldn't get any result in a Kotelnikov VCO.. might it be a problem of which range of voltage is accepted by the Kotelnikov?
