hollywood doesnt make rated r movies anymore. everything has to be pg 13 to milk the most money for the dumbest movies. notice how most of those are comic book movies. they all suck monkey balls, like the directors that make them.

I think Freeman was the big star and they put him front in center, Spacey must have been up and coming then but not quite as big as Morgan.

If spacey's name was shown in the trailer and as people know brad and morgan are the detectives,people will easily guess who was john doe...Fincher tried to prevent that

The main requirement for Spacey was that his name wouldn’t be included in the opening credits and that he wouldn’t participate in the promotion of the film.

If I'm not mistaken, The Usual Suspects came out in January 1995. That movie made Spacey a star and he was the bad guy in it. I feel like had he been in the trailer of Seven (which came out later the same year), it would've been a dead giveaway that Spacey was yet again, the bad guy. Fincher made the smartest of moves.

Also Fight Club. It surprises me to be honest. I thought these two movies were released around 2000's.

The dark green filter makes a lower saturation and also a more modern look, I think because the movies in mid 90s where too colorfull.

This movie is T I M E L E S S. There is a recepy with timelessnes. i was shocked that Apocalypse now was made in the 70s, when i saw it i thought it was made in the mid/late 90s....

You're right. Most trailers, especially those in the 90s, do a terrible job of not giving too much away. But this one did it very well. Enough to keep you intrigued.

@@claudiagalante9613 I actually think pitt's perofrmance is shaky through the first half of the film and in the 2nd it gets better, I think he was outshined by freeman because it was so early in his career whereas freeman was in his prime. But nevertheless both gave great performances overall

The "Lust" murder was crazy! The form John Doe make the guy use that thing to kill the girl... very disturbing and unique. Se7en is a hell of a masterpiece, David Fincher is a genius. I love his movies.

You can tell your movie is truly great when every crime-noir thriller tries to ape your style for the next 15 years. All the 90s & 00s dark thrillers with an unraveling puzzle that came after Se7en tried to emulate the same mood and neo-noir cinematography (Morgan Freeman was in several of them!), but none of them succeeded.
