Bothe Sea Doo and Yamaha have announced new PWC engines for 2024. But they are doing things in very different ways. Sea Doo has a new 1630 ACE 325 engine and Yamaha has its 1.9 HO engine. Are these just modified versions of previous engines? Watch and find out.

Owning several major brands throughout 20+ years I have to say they all make some great motors & PWC models. Our personal opinion is Gina’s 2016 Kawasaki Ultra 310R has been the most reliable and trouble free PWC clocking in 679hrs to date. We have had several Seadoo model with the 1500cc motor clock in 300+ hrs with no motor issues. On my 2015 FZR I put 650+ hrs on a motor before seeing issues. I believe maintenance is key for sure on any of them. Good job Frank going over some of the new motor features for Seadoo & Yamaha. I’m looking forward to riding my new 2024 FX Cruiser HO 1.9. It will only be our second time owning a N/A in 20+ years. Billy D

I will keep you posted. I had the chance to ride a most of the new 2024 at the Yamaha premiere event as well as the first 2024 FX Crusier HO I sold to a good friend. I did get to put sometime on his during the fall Mudbug PWC rally this October. The ski is pretty amazing for sure, feels and sounds so different in comparison to current model FX’s & my 15 FZR. Myself & anyone else that owns or owned a supercharger PWC knows it doesn’t give you that arm extension pull on acceleration. But I can say I still was impressed with the acceleration & power delivery. I will keep you posted after I have the chance to put some hours on mines personally. Thanks again

I have the “OG” FZR. ‘09 with 350 hrs. The only issue I’ve had is the midshaft bearing has went out. With 350 hrs I’ve debated if it’s worth fixing. You’ve got 679 on a ‘15. Maybe I’ll look into it a little more if those hrs are possible.

When is Kawasaki going to update their 1500cc engine? I wish they would put a 2000cc inline-six ~ bore/stroke 75.15mm x 75.15mm x Six = 2000cc An inline-six is perfectly balanced, if they made their hull longer it would accommodate the new engine and be more stable on bumpy waters. The Kawasaki Catalina.

My brother and I are buying PWC’s for the first time and are doing research. I’m trying to figure out who makes the best engine and overall pwc. Sure we’d like to go fast but for this inquiry I am really interested in the best quality wise. Is there an answer or well it turn into a “it depends” debate?

As you have probably guessed, everyone will have their own opinion. Back when I was in your position and looking for what I wanted, I did a lot of research. I decided to purchase a Yamaha because they had a better reliability record. I'm sure you will find people that say I am wrong but that is what I found

I believe there will be new Skis from Yamaha in 2025. Seeing the FX series hasn’t been redesigned since after 2018. This is the 4th year of the newer GP. Seems to be maybe a 1900 or 2.0 SVHO ENGINE. Sea Doo brought some competition, there should be new/remodeled bikes coming from Yamaha 2025.
@TheShipsLogg

I think you are right. It makes sense to redesign the SVHO the same year that it gets a new engine. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

I’m for sure a Yamaha fan boy.. I have to admit Seadoo is really trying to step up and innovate. My only real 2 concerns with a seadoo are the carbon seal and more concerning is the spray on cylinder coating. Honestly if they went with a sleeved cylinder set up they would without a doubt be my next purchase. UNLESS Yamaha brings back the FZR/FZS platform….
@TheShipsLogg

Great video captain Frank. I'm wondering how much heavier the 1.9L motor is and what kind of mileage it's getting. I'm also still trying to figure out why my 2022 FX SVHO limited has lost .5 to 1 mph of top speed! Does your 2021 FX get to 7800 rpm's (without mods)?
@TheShipsLogg
@TheShipsLogg 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! I would think there is not much difference in weight between the two engines. The 1.8 only weighs somewhere around 260 pounds. I'm thinking the 1.9 should be pretty close. I do still get up to 7800 rpm if the conditions are right. Hot, humid conditions are not the best when trying to pull as much power out of your engine as you can. Cooler, drier weather is best because the air is more dense. Thanks for watching!

@@dqmnjohn_4491 The SMC hull is a bit heavier but there is also a different ride plate which should negate the hull's extra weight. The impeller may need to be checked and refinished.

Keep an eye on your wear ring/housing as for that is a wear item. When changing out the housing also replace the impeller with a solas impeller from riva. After noticing speed loss I did a swap out and noticed instant gain back to where the machine should be.

For 2024, the 1.9 NA is in Yamaha boats and jet skis replacing the 1.8 NA. Supercharged models are still using the 1.8. Speculation is that starting at n 2025, the 1.9 supercharged will replace the 1.8 in the SVHO models.

what can i tell , ROTAX developer of aircraft engines , i think they know what they doing , nowadays not a big deal to get 300+ HP from 1.5 litres , even 40 years ago F1 engines getting 1200+hp from 1.5L . Yamaha dont have enough experience yet to develop hi end engines , some of you will tell me YAMAHA produce BIKE engines with hi revvs and they reliable . Just educate yourself guys > ROTAX supply engines for BMW , MV Agusta , Harley Davidson , KTM , Aprilia , BUELL motorcycles nevermind plane manufacturers around the world . Its not hard to make bulletproff engine with huge volume and no charger or turbo . Mercedes can make 1.000.000 km engines but who needs them if there is no fun , right ? So key is >>> Correct maintenance and all yours toys will make you happy .
@TheShipsLogg
@TheShipsLogg 5 ай бұрын
I actually disagree. Yes, Rotax does build aircraft engines as you say but that is a far cry from what they are putting in their Personal Watercraft. Plus comparing what is in your typical PWC to F1 makes no sense. Yamaha has proven to be more reliable than Sea Doo but it's not because they necessarily know how to build engines better. They just know how to provide the same level of performance at lower RPM's. That makes a difference. Take any engine in the world and it will last longer if you don't have to work it as hard.

@@TheShipsLogg Also I disagree, because the fastest pwc in the world are built on the yamaha engine, which is so well built you can push a ton of psi through it with turbo. setting a record of 142 on the 1.8 on now 144mph on the 1.9 engine

Yamaha is the smartest wave runner company there is by not advertising any kind of horsepower because when you go to buy boat tags and insurance for these things that is the first thing they want to know is what is the length of your boat and the horsepower and that is how they charge you accordingly. Kawasaki and Sea-Doo are not doing their customers any justice at all. Just stay quiet your insurance would be where you go in and tell them you have a leaven foot boat with a 300 hp engine you are going to be paying astronomical prices for that insurance also for your boat tag. At least here in Oklahoma That is the way they do it they really get into your pockets.
