Hi mate, love your vids! 👍 my new daily watch :) im from west Yorkshire mate and have had some huge ballan wrasse from Flamborough head, its really rough, rocky outcrops and stacks, drops of really deep and is perfect wrasse and conger habitat! 👌 theres a path down the cliffside to the mark, there were some ladders but they were all broke, like you always say never go to marks like that alone! But all the hardest spots to get to are usually the best! 👍😆😉 you get nice bass there too and iv had some massive cod from there at night, you should do a night video there, and spurn point too is some awesome beach fishing. Im a piker but like catching those big tench and carp on waggler in spring n summer, dont do as much sea fishing lately but watching your vids has got me itching to get back out there in that sea air watching rod bend over! 👌 love how you show the bite developing its exactly what i would do! Love it! 👌 keep um coming buddy and ill be watching to see if you get that donkey of a wrasse mate! 👍 tight lines buddy

Ravens point on trearddur used to be great for big wrasse, we would catch them from 1lb to around 5 quite frequently whilst waiting for congers. Whether it still fishes like that any more... Also with congers, I've noticed short hook lengths work better. I also found smaller congers used to take it much more violently with the bigger ones taking it nice and steady. Keep it up 👍

Hey John try fishing off penmaenmawr beach park at the car park next to the bridge and walk along... when you come to the wall go down there and fish... there is some lovely thornback rays around there and the odd conger at the moment.... if you ever need some drone foot give us a shout 😊

Nice video I miss fishing off there . Had some conga further round next bend straight down wall, used single hook with a smaller chunk makky than youve used there dude. Seems few years ago the quantity of fish had decreased alot 😣 good luck next time

Dude, Some advice about Wrasse follows.... (nice video by the way). The main mistake you're making with wrasse is you are fishing at a very tame location, so only catching the mini species (cos they like it tame) and you are using mini end-tackle appropriate for the mini species. These species are Rock-Cook wrasse, Corkwing wrasse, and Goldsinny wrasse. To get those big-bois ur after, you need to target Ballan wrasse. The fish you had at timestamp 14:30 was a Ballan but was only a teenage juvenile, present here because they seek calmer environments to grow up in, then they move out and seek a wilder home as adults. The record I think is over 8lb! But a 2lb or 3lb fish is well within possibilities! I fished Cornwall for them in my younger days and I know Wales has some big-bad-bois too. They typically live in rougher environments like wild coast rock gullies and rock outcrops, and you need to use heavier tackle. That size float is fine but you probably want to upscale the hook to a size 1, 1/0, or maybe even a 2/0 for the real big'uns, strong J- hook, and a heavy-ish rubbing leader cos they can fight hard on light tackle and take you into some snags, and have strong biting/crushing teeth. Ballan wrasse are not a timid fish they are territorial and defend their patch with aggression so a bit of float-resistance and a pointy hook doesn't worry them too much. As I said, strong biting/crishing teeth. Ragworm is a good bait for them but you can target some bigger badder bois with whole (de-shelled) limpet as bait (or other local shellfish). My best ballan wrasse have been taken on limpet bait. They graze on the shellfish which live on the rocks, biting through the shells, it's their fave food. Match the bait to the location. In Cornwall, limpets were everywhere, so they were a winner for ballans, not sure about North Wales for limpet populations, but any and all local shellfish should produce fish on a hook. Main take-away message - seek rocky and rough ground.

@@GAMEKEEPERJOHN I hope the information pays off for you. A big male ballan wrasse on a bass rod is lots of fun! Every ballan wrasse is born female, and become male when they are older, changing to male from when they are about 34cm upwards. By the time they are about 41cm length, almost all have become male. Tight lines buddy.

Some good advice there. Ballan wrasse aren't backwards about coming forward and will readily take the right bait presented. I mainly fish for them with deep orange, or red jigged soft baits here in Ireland (they definitely much prefer those). I've caught some real beauties over the years in medium to deep sheltered rock marks over the years. I still think their teeth are amazing looking.

@@GAMEKEEPERJOHN Always worth trying a hard back green crab about 1-1.5 inches in size. Ballan Wrasse seem to quite like them.

I've been fishing off the Flagpole at treadur Bay for years. I've had some huge Ballan off that spot over time, just free lining rag. Only issue is it's incredibly rocky and weedy, last year I managed a couple of tiny wrasse but got snagged so many times I lost my temper and bailed. Driving down to Anglesey for a week tomorrow morning, I might give the breakwater a try with some ultra light gear. Great vid BTW mate 👍

If you fish the jagged rocks on the other side of the breakwater just the other side of the small bay using limpits off the rocks as bait you will catch wrasse 8-12 inches long all day. I fished it years ago and couldnt miss.

A great mark for large Wrasse is Llanbadrig, behind the Church, down the steep rock climb to the rock platform. It's very deep as it's a sheer drop off into 40-50ft. Use your beach caster (caus you need to bully them) with a simple lead at the bottom and a dropper 3ft above. And just drop it down a few feet out and keep your rod in your hands.

The power station was shutdown in December 2015 so there has been no warm water discharged at the outflow since then and no more bass or mullet I`m afraid, end of an era. It was fantastic back in the day though .
