Very nostalgic for me. Been at that campsite many times - I go there for wildlife photography. I run my Airvolution kayak up there - perfect boat for shooting. But I fast boat in - it’s a long paddle for a 33” wide IK 😎 The Airvolution is great on the Creek and even in 1.5’ chop waves out on the water. But I wouldn’t want to have to paddle home when the lake gets really big and windy.

"not a good kayaking park" ... I'm watching this as I lay here recovering from a 29 portage 2 week kayaking trip from Kawawaymog to Tim Lake. Literally just got back less than an hour ago. Btw Ken, thanks for your review on the Itiwit Strenfit. It helped a lot with deciding which portable kayak to go with and it held up really well the whole trip, beaver dams and all! I love it

Got my first GL paddle this year and instantly fell in love with it. It's only downside is that you can't get away with not wearing a splash skirt - unless you WANT to get wet.

I used to guide a fair amount in the park and regardless of the season, the north arm has always had moose with each visit. It really is magical to have access to such a sight.

Another beautiful kayaking trip. I luv kayaking in the back marshes as well, so thank you for taking me along on that paddle (moose or not). How did you like your hammock compared to ground camping?

Enjoyed!... A couple questions you may have or have not time to answer: 1. While unloading at the campsite, you had a large black bag... was it packed full and stuffed in the kayak, or empty and you loaded it for transport to the site. And 2. I did not see any cell phone/GPS usage. Only the waterproof map. It seems that you could easily get lost up and around the shoreline without some electronic point to track on the map. Anyhow, moose/no moose , it was fun to watch and for you more fun to do. Thanks

Today is the start of hurricane season. So for the next 3 months we should have a bug out bag packed....late August through October is when we need to keep our heads up. Love the sound of looms 🤔 You could always catch... Rocky & Bullwinkle 🤨

Great paddle adventure. Reminds me of upstate NY and a little like the Pacific NW. Where do you source your charts? No one seems to carry them anymore since boaters all use GPS now.

btw Ken - since you’re clearly intimately familiar with where I paddle, I wonder if you have any specific boat recommendations for a second boat for me. I’m looking for a lighter alternative to the Airvolution 2 (52lbs) for day expeditions doing wildlife photography. I don’t need to cross Opeongo or any other big water - I water taxi in and paddle Toronto rivers like the Humber. 35 lbs or less and high stability are key, and I love the Airvolution’s paddling characteristics. Ruggedness also important, as I get into some shallow water with rocks and log snags, but not much fast water. Doesn’t necessarily need to be an IK - as lon as is’t portable and not too long (12-14 ft or so). Cheers! 🛶

That is a Gearlab Ipik. It is a modern translation of a traditional Greenlandic kayak paddle in carbon fiber. It is an excellent paddle, super light, very slicey, and has a lot of power in reserve especially with an extended blade. Edit: I see Ken just explained it, and that is all true, but this type of paddle has a lot more going for it that just being easier on the body over a long distance. They excel in rough water. Because of the shape, you always know the orientation of the blade, vice an offset blade on a round shaft. When made to fit the paddler and kayak, they are incredibly ergonomic, and work very well with the body, when the kayak fits the body. For anyone interested, it is a path worth pursuing, you should still be able to find some good info online.

Great bud, wish I’d moved to Canada not USA:) however this is not a criticism but wouldn’t it be prudent to mention in the video mainly for the pecker heads out there as to how dangerous Moose can be? And to give them space? Next to humans they are the most dangerous mammals in N America . Keep up the great content.
