Water is a precious resource that sustains life, but its delicate balance is now threatened by the pressing issue of climate change.
Driven by the accumulation of greenhouse gases, primarily from human activities like burning fossil fuels and deforestation, climate change has far-reaching consequences. One of the most visible and concerning outcomes is the rising sea levels. As Earth's temperature increases, polar ice sheets and glaciers melt, and seawater expands due to higher temperatures, causing oceans to encroach upon coastal areas. This sea level rise threatens coastal communities, delicate ecosystems, and vital infrastructure, intensifying the frequency and severity of coastal flooding, storm surges, and erosion. Urgent action to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, alongside innovative adaptation strategies, is essential to curb sea level rise and safeguard our planet's coasts for current and future generations.

The Beaufort gyre has be due to release since 2017 with 40% more excess fresh water that will pour down into the North Atlantic. As much water as all the Great Lakes. This will also potentially slow or stop the AMOC.
@bluegold21
@bluegold21 6 ай бұрын
Just so you are sure that this will not cause an ice age some detail must be added; If the AMOC stops Oxygen won't reach the ocean floor and anaerobic bacteria will thrive which will produce hydrogen sulphide. That was the final nail in the coffin for life during the great dying; Permian/Triassic ELE. This event was preceded by a massive release of methane. We are facing the exact same scenario. People must stop the burning of fossil fuels now and begin scrubbing the atmosphere of CO2. The consequences of not doing so are simply too horrific to contemplate.📢💚🌍🌏🌎

The rate of sea level rise has been, on average, ca. 2.8mm/year. The rate changes from year to year/decade to decade/ sometimes less, sometimes more. But the rate hovers around an average that has remained consistent since the earliest reliable tide gauge data from southern Manhattan (The Battery) beginning around 1860. There is no signal for an increase in the RATE of sea level rise from our ground-based tide gauges from all around the world. This is in conflict with satellite tide gauge which were put into orbit (400 miles above earth) in early 1990s. These instruments show an increase in RATE of rise of about 0.08mm/year. 0.08mm is the thickness of a single sheet of notebook paper. This apparent increase in rate has been argued (in several peer-reviewed papers I have read) to be a signal of instrument accuracy deterioration, which makes sense as the apparent rate increase is consistent, while the year-to-year sea level rise itself varies by an order of magnitude greater. Satellites measure sea levels from 400 miles above an undulating, uneven, tide-driven surface. You tell me how accurate you think these can be. The math used to calculate the satellite tide gauge data itself is not even agreed upon as it is massively complex. There is no increase in rate of sea level rise folks, and that means CO2 is having no effect on sea level rise rate...or anything else for that matter.

Yes, the ocean level is rising at 3 mm per year in New York. The world wide accepted average is between 1.5 and 1.7 mm per year (I go for 1.5 mm because it makes the math easier, not because it slows the rise by 15%). In NY City, the land is sinking by 1.5 mm per year because of isostatic rebound, the center of the continent is rising because the ice sheet is no longer pressing down, and the mass from the fringe is moving back. (There are many videos.) The important part of the NOAA graph is how linear it is! 170 years, and you can draw a line through the data. Yes, it's been going up, but the rate hasn't changed. This puts the rise in NY harbor at 30 cm per century, about a foot per century. While shipping needs to be there, the finance district will have to move in the next few centuries. It will happen in the decades that follow a high water event (hurricane hits at high tide). Until then, politicians will keep kicking the can down the road. I live in Florida. 6 inches per century is five feet per millenia. In my lifetime it won't change my property value.

Abstract : The energy that dominates the earth is very great, some of it is natural, like the heat of the sun and volcanoes, and some of it is human action, by cutting down trees, without replacing them and cultivating in their place... There are five forces that control or dominate the planet... 1- The first theory (horizontal dynamic movement) and its end... The occurrence of storms, rain, floods and snow, at unexpected times and places, is because of the expiration of this theory, which needs to be balanced... 2- The second theory (vertical dynamic movement) and its end... This movement or force controls or dominates the earthquakes, earth cracks, drying up of rivers and lakes, earth openings, mountain collapses, and the emergence of drinking water springs on the ground... It becomes out of control... These phenomena increased due to the end of this theory... The third theory: it is water that rotates the earth... The fourth theory: the Earth's axis of rotation has tilted 2° degrees... The fifth theory: The Earth has a new orbit... I solved sea level rise over 2 decades ago when I was a kid. The easiest fix is to move away from the coast. If sea levels rise 10 meters, then move inland to the point of land that is 10 meters above the current sea level. Everything in between comes the new coast and flood plain. Cities will need to be demolished, and people relocated. It's a big project and should have been started years ago.

Honestly, when they established the National Flood Insurance, it should have been a program specifically to buy out ppl who live in flood-prone areas and move them to safer neighborhoods (AKA higher ground). Yes, that is an option in the program, but it's rarely utilized because they offer the option of rebuilding. That isn't only for ppl on coasts either - there's a neighborhood in my landlocked state that's surrounded by wild fields despite being in the middle of the city because it's an extremely flood-prone area. They've got a big wall that comes down to try to keep the water out and yet the neighborhood floods every time there's any flooding anyway - it seeps up through their basements. I get it's a historic district, but frankly it needs relocated. They knew it was a problem before I was born and in 1993, the river breached the wall and flooded the entire area. They've been lucky not to have a repeat of 93 since then. And the ppl being relocated need to be paid a good price to relocate. I get that ppl don't want to "overpay" for a washed out shack, but if we want those ppl to actually take the deal, then we need to offer them enough money to actually buy another house. And with the fiat currency at our government's disposal? There's just no excuse for not doing so. Well, we all know what the excuse is - blah blah blah, entitlements, handouts, blah blah blah. As for the Dems? I don't know what their excuse is - they know it's an issue. They talk about it all the time on the campaign trail, but once they're in office? Suddenly it's just too big of a problem and they can't do it and oh those mean republicans won't let them even when they have a super majority and the presidency... Yeah, I'm not hopeful for the US's future in regards to climate change.

It's not often I get to the ten second mark of a video and stop because it is already hugely inaccurate. Rates of sea level rise are NOT accelerating. The usual fallacy pulled out in support is to say that seas are rising 3 to 4mm per year in this century but were only 1.7mm on AVERAGE last century. What is usually forgotten is that seas rose faster in the 1920s to 1940s when it was hotter, slowed in 1960s and 1970s and were faster in the 1990s. In other words, rates of 3 to 4 mm are not unusual. Yes, we are in a longer term sea level rise trend since the earth came out of the little ice age (thankfully). There might be 200 to 400 mm of sea level rise by the end of this century. My advice is to take one step back every ten years and you will be fine.

Sea level appears to be rising at a small 3mm per year. Atolls in the Pacific nations of the Marshall Islands and Kiribati, as well as the Maldives archipelago in the Indian Ocean, have risen up to 8 percent in size (Ford and Kench, 2020). 89% of the globe’s islands and 100% of large islands have stable or growing coasts (Duvat, 2019). No island larger than 10ha decreased in size. As regards NOAA tide gauge data, let's look at some examples from around the world. N.B. All sites show a linear Relative Sea Level Trend: Kanmen, China 2.40mm/yr; Sydney, Australia 0.75mm/yr; Ferandina Beach, Florida 2.20mm/yr; Los Angeles, California 1.04mm/yr; Mera, Japan 3.8mm; Cascais, Portugal 1.32mm/yr. Remember, all linear over many decades, or more than a century. No acceleration (or deceleration for that matter). Anyway, if you prefer satellite data NOAA's trend was +3.0mm/year Global Mean Sea Level (1993-2022), again linear last time I looked (but hey, it may have accelerated in the last month). NASA satellite data (1993-present) for Global Mean Sea Level shows a linear rise of 3.3mm per year. That's the same as two stacked penny coins. All linear. No acceleration, so no relationship to the exponential increase in CO2 in the atmosphere. It's going to be decades before even your big toe is submerged.

Along with that are the moronic Republican mayors of Florida who are spending tens of millions of dollars to raise their roads and levees. Why are they wasting all that money? And, those disappearing lands of Louisiana and Alaska must be all a part of a dream. Oh, and the sea level rise with the decreasing ice in the polar regions along with the shrinking glaciers is due to CO2 rise in the atmosphere.

It's 3.4mm per year. Predictions say that the rate of sea level rise will rise in the coming years. Google Louisiana, Pacific nations, Alaska, Miami Beach, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and particularly Jakarta plus climate change. The Eastern Florida cities are already experiencing flooding at king tides, some Louisiana islands have disappeared and more are disappearing, a number of Alaskan coastal villages have already had to relocate because of sea level rise. Before the Florida cities are abandoned, they will lose their fresh water due to salt water incursion. The seas have risen an average of 8 inches since 1880 with 3 inches rise in the last 25 years. That's average. Oh, and coastal flooding has increased 233% in the last 20 years. Yep, not much of a threat at all.

Our oceans are rising by the thickness of a dime each year and its not from ice melt. Antarctica is adding far more ice than it is losing from ice breaking away and melting and has been for the last ten thousand years. The main contributors to sea rise is from under sea volcanic activity spewing magma and displacing water, along with tectonic plates under our oceans causing sea floors to rise. It's how mountains are formed.
@jamesparker3189

There is also all the material from erosion being washed into the ocean by heavy rains and by wave action and tides that are adding to ocean levels.

Hmmm. Interesting that your thoughts don't agree with tens of thousands of climate change scientists and meteorologists around the world. Since the annual rate of sea level rise is 3.4mm that is more like four to five dimes. The Antarctica ice increased till 2015 and then started melting. However, those who actually study climate change realize that besides Antarctica there is a place called the Arctic where ice is melting at 12.2% per decade. The world's ice regions and glaciers are melting because of fossil fuel use.

I did. It seems that the NOAA is also concerned about sea level rise. They say the higher estimates of sea level rise is dependent on emissions. Last year was a record year for emissions. Make your own conclusion. "Due to the “committed sea level rise” from continued warming of the ocean, over the course of the next several centuries the higher scenarios might be approached as “when, not if” if warming and emissions continue to rise unchecked. Or, put another way, there is uncertainty in how quickly the “dynamics” associated with ice sheets may affect future sea level rise, but not regarding whether or not global sea levels in the next several centuries will rise by at least a few meters." 1) Modeling. You can manipulate modeling to get the results you plan and hope to get! 2) All that flooding. Where did it go? Oh, it drained off to the rivers and the sea! Can that only happen if the city drainage systems are " higher" than the rivers and the sea? 3) All this clearly proves that the engineers and planners going back to the settlers failed to take into account and mimic nature and the landscape to drain off the land. Now with all the buildings, paved/concreted over land masses along with population and POOR/INADEQUATE drainage systems, you will see constant flooding. 4) Co2, The fuel for life on earth. Is it really the menace you claim it is? Other "scientists" disagree with you and your modeling. I tend to believe their science and not yours! 5) Instead of re-inventing the wheel by trying to subdue and control nature, why don't you go back to the drawing board and alter/rebuild your drainage systems. Maybe even tear down a few thousand buildings and create artificial rivers/culverts. Hey, add a few parks around them also. Don't they call that "reverse engineering"? Oh by the way, get rid of below ground level living spaces. What you say😱 Landlords will lose fortunes you say. Tough I say!
